A documentary on everything you shouldn’t do to an LED watch.

National semiconductor module is missing its minus contact inside the module due to battery corrosion. Its also missing the top battery contact connector that connects the cells to the case back.

The battery connector is on the case back itself.

I'd solder in a single strand of wire between the board and the brass strip as it will allow flex

Great attempt and great video. I am currently struggling with a Phasar 2000 that was working but now that I finished polishing the case the module now resets back to 1:00 after I am done setting the time and date. I am guessing the grease i put in the wall of the pushers is causing the issue, but I am not certain

Greetings, it is unfortunate that you do not pass on the jolly by helping others with their watch...
Going through stuffs, I came across *THE VERY SAME WATCH* than yours!!
She is a pristine LED watch with a numbers pencil note written on a yellowish washed out tag. This watch came, with many other boxes, from a Pawnshop, that was about to be thrown away in the mid-90s.
I recently went through my storage, found it and another one lady size which requires two different batteries... 1 medium small, the other small.
The gents one is pristine, no scratch, I manged to find the proper batteries and she led-up.
All digits reading OK, I can read 1:0 then, MO then, 2
However, I can't set the time and the date on it. The set button doesn't give any function.
Also, she lights up, but then needs a cooling period to light up again.
Real sad, she is pristine, but she half works.
I have removed the batteries, to make sure they don't go bad, and put it back in the box, and it's going to be dumped since I don't have anyone after me.
    Cheers

Replace the missing negative brass connector and re-solder the connection joints. If the watch was working previously then it is clearly a power issue.Though not directly related, the re-soldered connector is sitting proud and will likely make permanent contact with the command/set button which it should not do. These modules often fail quite suddenly but even the slightest fault with the power supply will be enough to stop it working.

I think your positive and negative connections on the board were guff. If you look at the positive on the board its quite large albeit very corroded, this you may have cleaned but forgot to show this in the video. The negative one which had been botched by someone I don't think was large enough to make contact with the battery anyway. It needs the cradle to make a secure contact. Sometimes even tin foil works to bridge a gap. Anyway enjoyed the video, yes frustrating but you gave it a good go. :)

Actually a useful video! Because now we know what not to do and look out for when attempting to repair the watches!

I used to have one which I found new in the box at a thrift store for $10. It was a LEDO all-stainless ladies' watch with a Hughes Aircraft time module from the late 1970s, and it had the original Venture price label which priced it at $12.99 (which would had been a steal at time time).

PCB scrubbers can be used to clean up crud and oxidation off the contacts if they are not making connections :)

Tack solder some Kynar wires to the inner battery contacts and try with the lab supply or a couple of AA/AAA cells? I think it could be a bad connection to the battery contact you had to clean up. Also, the three solder pads under the crystal, on the LED side of the board, check the centre pad with a microscope/macro lens. It looks like it might be a dry joint, around 8:37 on the video.

I had that first watch,I think it was 150.OK or 110.00,my ,LCD watch that only told time ,and a very thick watch was around 300.00. You can still buy led watches on eBay for dive bucks
