Was just watching a video of Yancy county, where the guy was flashing between showing what the roads looked like back in April, and then today, and it was a stark reminder of how things had changed. Just getting the temporary roadways into some of the areas will help. I see by some comments people are questioning the skill level of the equipment operators. There's a world of difference between normal operations and 'in the field' so to speak. This is exactly how you get experience in abnormal circumstances. The work is being done, that's what matters. They'll get better at it.
Pushing in loose stone is a lot harder than the loan pile they trained on. This will be an amazing learning experience for these operators. Glad to see the remediation taking place.
A smart person learns from everything and everyone, a average person learns from their mistakes ,a stupid person has all the answers and knows everything
Amazing how guard keeps machines and equipent in ready all time while working in outdoors conditions. Mobile shops and shelters help plus give impetus to get job. Done. Good job
I think of all the mistakes I made learning how to use our farm tractors, eventually I got the knack. Same with the chainsaws. Experience and making mistakes is how we learn. It’s nice to see the military response.
Update, 1st and foremost, thanks to all of our service members for their service. Additionally, in regards to my previous comment, 2 things can be true at the same time. It’s heart warming and uplifting to see Americans helping Americans in their time of need. And it’s understandable that people who’s could hit the ground running are frustrated because they aren’t able to contribute in a meaningful way when so much is at stake. God bless the victims of Helene.
this is not the Army Corpse of Engineers folks. these guys may be school teachers or accountants or UPS drivers during the week. they are part time, RESERVE military so STFU with your snide comments and thank them for being there yes, they need more hours on the equipment. yes you could probably do it faster. but you aren't there sweating it out and they are, so stfu if you dont have anything nice to say
I know they need experience and they are trying, thank them for thier service, however their are people stranded they trying to get to so why not have a couple well seasoned operators working with them so they can learn by example rather than trial and error and speed up the rescue of everybody. When it comes to times of desasters throw the bureauracracy out the door and use ALL your resources meaning civilian and gov the most efficient way possible
@JamesBall-w1t I've done plenty of shoveling and 50 year s of operating all kinds of equipment and learned more from watching and listening than any other way. I wasn't bashing the guard I was saying the bureauracrats need to better use sources available to them and internet it might help other sources be more efficient.
I'm sure part of this is getting soldiers experience and training. Back when I was in the Guard, they'd get the guy with the least experience some experience whenever possible.
The guy running the big D10 definitely knows how to get it done, it's all tedious work especially running a rubber tire machine over boulders that'll send you over. Why bitch about the guys and gals working go grab a shovel and go help. Thank You NCNG
I can and will go show them how to run that equipment but i don’t think the system would allow a regular citizen to just jump onto that equipment without beurocratic red tape mucking it all up. SHAME
If you're serious you would have to join the national guard and you might get it done I was thinking about it but I turned 70 in 3 months I don't know if they will take me
I think it's obvious by watching this video that our National Guard needs more time on their equipment. You don't decide to learn how to run something in animal emergency.I haven't seen an operator yet.Knows how to run a builder
This is messes up. 2hat a of good equipment. It really easy to see they have no idea what to do or how to operate any of this equipment. Or even how to build a road. Looks like they are good at standing around . I could get more done in 1 hrs than they did all day. I have 20 yrs at this. Government training at work.
Somebody needs to teach these guys how to run that equipment. I will donate several days of my time to teach them. But I guess this is what we get when the military goes woke and DEI.
I'm really thankful that you. Men and women went to go and help the community. But dear God, they need to teach you guys how to operate them machines? That's embarrassing. If you're going to be an operator you need to be shown how to be an operator not just have the mos i definitely wouldn't have posted the videos 😶🌫️😬🫡✌🏻
Thank you for your service and helping NC Residents!
Thank you for your service

People are complaining they aren't experts at helping, the same people complaining are also not doing anything to help. Hilarious
Keep up the real world training! You are making a difference! Thanks, God bless! 😊
We've all gotta start somewhere. Good on these lads. And maybe ladies too.
Pushing in loose stone is a lot harder than the loan pile they trained on. This will be an amazing learning experience for these operators.
Glad to see the remediation taking place.
Thanks for showing us the recovery. Too often the reconstruction after natural disasters gets forgotten.
I was in the NCNG 2/252 Armor there are no better Troops than the NCNG. We take care of our own !
NG learning how to operate machinery . I know its not you guys fault ,..thank you for being there .
Thank you! Make Appalachia Beautiful Again🎉

It's unimaginable the amount of rock that came with the flooding. God Bless you all for what you are doing....
These ppl are tough and resilient.they wont stay down long .this is americans at work .
Their doing a great job! Slow any easy wins the race, and you save on breaking the equipment!
Sure it can be done faster with an experienced operator but every little bit helps in a disaster like this!
Good job!

These guys are national guard, not reserve.
Outstanding! Definitely some CRUCIAL experience being gained here!
GOD BLESS OUR MILITARY BROTHERS AND SISTERS FOR HELPING CLEAN UP AFTER HURRICANE HELEN ❤
Loving the Military D6K

You don't learn how to operate equip by watching. It may look like not much being done, but get a shovel and see how far you get in this terrain.
@JamesBall-w1t I've done plenty of shoveling and 50 year s of operating all kinds of equipment and learned more from watching and listening than any other way. I wasn't bashing the guard I was saying the bureauracrats need to better use sources available to them and internet it might help other sources be more efficient.
It's the first time they have ever used the big equipment. They definitely need some more qualified operators to train these guys up.
I'm sure part of this is getting soldiers experience and training. Back when I was in the Guard, they'd get the guy with the least experience some experience whenever possible.
This is how you gain experience. It’s one thing to read a tech manual, but another to actually sit in the seat.
You people would complain if the best trained equipment operator on Earth was using that equipment. Be quiet.
Then enlist and show them how ...
The guy running the big D10 definitely knows how to get it done, it's all tedious work especially running a rubber tire machine over boulders that'll send you over. Why bitch about the guys and gals working go grab a shovel and go help. Thank You NCNG
Great work !! Now bring in the CAT D11's
Oh Military Heavy Equipment love it! 💪
The most important thing, don’t get hurt and don’t hurt someone else. Look where you move forward and reverse and everyone go home safe.
I can and will go show them how to run that equipment but i don’t think the system would allow a regular citizen to just jump onto that equipment without beurocratic red tape mucking it all up. SHAME
The skill is not having the mountains fall on you. Thats why you have actual engineers involved.
Tru Dat!!!
Don’t worry, those kids will be total pro’s by the time this job is over.
Oh good Lord, sit down and be quiet Rambo.
If you're serious you would have to join the national guard and you might get it done I was thinking about it but I turned 70 in 3 months I don't know if they will take me
is there any videos of Military CASE 580 Super M?
I operate equipment everyday of my life and it was so damn hard for me to watch these guys “run” that dozer 😂😂
true that!!
Then go volunteer!
Better than no one but barely lol
@@philhammond5908 i work 6 days a week that would be kinda hard. It’s also harvest time. I’d gladly tho if I had time
@ sound like as good an excuse as any .
They can drive the equipment. They new to learn how to use it
english wasn’t your best subject
Looks like someone overstretched the winch cable on that D6.
Has anyone found the tank that got washed away?
Wonder what the manufacturers are of the dozers
That's a CAT Military 924H isn't it?
Just like the state highway one guy working six watching. 😅
What do you want them to do start picking up one rock at a time? Obviously only had one piece of equipment.
They need some better equipment. Gregory Poole should have pitched in!
Lived most of my life in yancey County, I am just trying to figure out where this is.
Corner of Coxes Creek Road and Hwy 19. Cane River.
Was a bridge there across from Byrd's Chapel Church but gone now.
And there's a beautiful Military CAT D7R
I am a firm believer in everyone gets a go at it. However that's not a training environment and they need to put experienced operators in the seats.
Do you need operators? I have experience with excavators, skid steers, farm tractors and own a 4x4 Tacoma.
Some good land fill there
That landfill is contaminated with sewage, chemicals and more.
Typical construction site. Two people working, 6 standing around. They will do well in civilian construction. 😂
Somebody is going to get hurt
Definitely operators needed!!😮😮😮
Sign up or stfu.
Loader operator NEEDS a lot of Help == Must be a Officer or banker !!
I think it's obvious by watching this video that our National Guard needs more time on their equipment. You don't decide to learn how to run something in animal emergency.I haven't seen an operator yet.Knows how to run a builder
those operators lack in skills
They all need to get to work
At least ole boy in the d7 knows a thing or two
I appreciate them all being here but it doesn't seem like the time and place to learn how to operate heavy machinery.
If you want it done yesterday, send in the NAVY Seabees and they will train them while there doing the job.
If you don’t think that the government sucks at everything? Watch this video!
I can show them how to operate
They talk like they know what they are doing but they need more seat time and training I would love to show them how it's done
Just make sure she has fuel

You want my number no charge
Need to let somebody that knows how to run heavy equipment besides all those you bucks that is wet behind the ears .
Those machines work better with the blade/ bucket on the ground,, They look as clueless as Most politicians,,
Mmmmmm some people should not be allowed around power tools , or heavy equipment
I'm really thankful that you. Men and women went to go and help the community. But dear God, they need to teach you guys how to operate them machines? That's embarrassing.
