Born and raised in NE Connecticut, wound up in Fairview, NC. This has been an overwhelming, heavy tragedy. Seeing the helicopters, of all shapes and sizes going over our little neighborhood has been some comfort. I wish there were a way to thank each and every one of you!!❤❤❤❤

I never thought the sound of a helicopter would be comforting, but it sure is. A huge thank you to each and everyone of you for your service, but most of all for showing up when we needed y’all the most. Be safe out there and God bless y’all!

This flight passed right over my house near Swannanoa; in fact I *think* I recall seeing it that Saturday because, while there were definitely a lot of helicopters out and about, it's not every day you see a Blackhawk come over the Bee Tree Valley and it stands out😅 Thanks for all you've done out in WNC!

Great video Connecticut Army National Guard pilot, crew, and videographer Staff Sgt. Joe Roudabush!! This video surely helped evaluate conditions just after the storm and is quite interesting to see now in mid October, 2024. Thank you.

Most military jets have an emergency beacon attached to ejection seat that will automatically notify rescue crews that a flier has ejected from his aircraft. In addition to that the pilots survival vest and the ejection seat pan contain an emergency radio, flares, ground panels and other gear to signal search and rescue crews. Personnel that have reached the crash site can tell if the crew had ejected or not. Even during training our military risk their lives to ensure they're ready to defend us. Military service is a dangerous business.

They assessed the conditions. Where is the army and national guard now? We don't see any presence of them. Where are the army portable bridges? Why are people having to make their own? Where are the army tents, heaters, generators, food and water? Am I the only one bothered by this?

Unfortunately, you are not the only one who believes this. Look through the National Guard's other social platforms and you'll find the answers to your questions

So exactly what did they do or accomplish!! All I saw was them flying around! They didn't even go where the area's where the private helicopter pilots were helping people off the beaten path!. Not sounding ungrateful but did they actually help people stranded in the high area's that couldn't get out because so many trees have blocked the way out!! I believe this why we are getting residents reporting they haven't seen anyone or gotten any help! These private pilots sure were finding alot of people to help! Sorry just what it looks like to many of us!!

We in our coastal communities, are learning the hard way.
Build set backs from water need to be greater. We can assume, we have to assume each year, Florida will get one hurricane Milton come ashore. You in the Appalachian mountains can and really must assume you will be hit with a three day rainfall followed immediately by a tropical storm event like Helene each and every year.
Florida needs to ban beachfront, ocean front development. Florida needs to replant millions of mangrove plants along its coastal features, bays, rivers, barrier islands, estuary bodies like the Indian River Lagoon all along the coast.
The Appalachian mountains river communities will have to reevaluate land use and development and what types of physical or watershed features will reduce and slow even massive one in 500 year storm scenarios.
