  • Casey Putsch recently bought a 1996 Rolls Royce Silver Spur for $8,000 and reviews everything that is broken and bad as well as everything fixed and good on the car. This is a good guide for people looking to buy a Silver Spur.

I dream of having a garage full of these older rolls and bentleys and getting them all to 110% and road tripping them all over the world, using them as designed. I'd WAY rather do that for way less money than buying new luxury cars.

This is land yachting at its absolute best. It shows that if you take your time and do it yourself, it's not too expensive or daunting. 👌

Great idea for a towing a vintage race car! I love when a tow vehicle is as interesting as the thing it is pulling, which isn't very often anymore.

Nice, and thank you for your help : I bought my 81 Silver Spur in the UK in 2013, never used it, but it still starts and drives like a swiss clock ( good brakes, exhausts and tires, mainly cosmetic things to do). An incredible car for its price, the last real RR, really made by hand, so unperfect but very unique

I’ve been following you for a while sir. Because of you I managed to get Mercedes Vancouver to eat the bill of like 6k on the SBC on my SL 65. They weren’t going to. I also own a 1990 Spur from Japan with 12k kms on it. I’m a big fan of those cars and am amazed how disrespected they are. People don’t understand how nice their suspension system is and focus on the lack of a big screen. XJSs also seem to suffer this. I think people would be shocked how amazing they ride. I’ve had many cars and it rides the best. Thanks for the videos!

'96 smart move with the OBD2 port. Awesome RR! When it comes to pricing service I always tell the Motorola first ever transistor radio story. Motorola built the transistor radio and there was a disagreement between the accountants and engineers what to charge for it. The accountants thought it would not sell for the $500 the engineers wanted and convinced management to sell it for $250, essentially ZERO profit. Sony built the same radio a year later and sold it for $450 and became a huge successful corporation and Motorola sold off much of its prize patents to Google including the GPS chips in phones so they can track everyone in the world, off topic again! Make sure you charge what is right for you and the customer... Well wishes from a long time fan!!!

I've had multiple cars that were called ''unreliable'' , ''expensive to run'', etc...turned out they weren't that bad and
I had tons of fun with them. Enjoy your nice Rolls!

Next on Casey the Car Guy; a support group for Ferrari sniffers. "Are you or do you go thru withdrawals because it's been a while since you smelled a really good Ferrari interior? Well fear not, Casey has you covered with the only support group just for that. Stay tuned." LOL Just having a little bit of fun Casey, hopefully you don't take it the wrong way. ;)

Beautiful car and, in my opinion, not dated looking. More timeless design. What are you guessing for fuel economy towing 1500-2000 pounds, or around 4000 Kilos with a Rolls? About 4-5 MPG?

I have always loved this era of Rolls and Bentley. But the mineral oil system has always put me off. Not as complicated as say 600 Grosser. But still plenty of small issues that become big issues very quickly if you don't stay on top of them.

Casey I have a 1996 spur with 23000 miles on it. I have the exact same problem on my right rear door. The plastic inside seems to have split so the rods are not functioning correctly. Can also open it from the inside. How can I contact you for your more in depth solution?

Be sure to check all the batteries in the seat memory computers as they leak and ruin the circuit boards
There is a way to wire around them and disable the memory function

It's interesting to see that Rolls Royce's are as cheap in the US as they are here in the UK. Considering how expensive they were when new.
Also, despite the price, the door handle mechanism is somewhat of a cheapskate 'Rube Goldberg' set up from your description. (We say 'Heath Robinson' over here), and it sounds like you've come up with a good solution.

the rolls is definitely a cooler tow pig than a truck but I'm curious why you don't like driving trucks, my only guess is you like many people have a problem with trucks newer than about 2000 where they started getting ridiculously big.
