      What about us who did fish in college but joined the military and like me for example I fished in college, but however, I joined the military and I am now 26 with just army experience but always bass fished? How would anglers my age still get sponsors this late in the game?

    What a great video. I love seeing the pros and companies do what they can for the up an coming anglers. I’m an old guy (60) that has been fishing most of my life and Bass fishing for about 20 years after a buddy from church got me to join his bass club in SanDiego. Fishing those club tourneys was so much fun. Been in love with it ever since. So obviously this video probably won’t have practical application for me but again, way to go guys on helping everyone understand how it works. You are correct, most think if someone does well in a few big tourneys or catches an upper double digit bass that the companies are knocking down your door. Not so and it’s good that you are filling people in.

    I appreciate the advice you two gentlemen are sharing. I have a cousin, his daughter just entered high school level fishing. She ask my advice as i used to fish low level. A lot of what you're saying is what i told her. But first, i suggested she stopped focusing on sponsorship before anything else. They were trying to push that mentality onto the kids that fished in her school. I suggested she learn to fish first. Get the basics down. Then try to get the business side figured out. She didn't and therefore gave up because it was too complicated. Later she ask me about my gear. She noticed that i had 5 Berkeley rods and 4 were broken. I told her the first, i broke in the tailgate of my truck. The 2nd broke as i was putting line in the reel and setting the drag on 10 lb. Mono. Never even got the chance to cast it into the water. The 3rd, broke as i set the hook on the 4th fish i caught. It literally exploded into 20 different pieces. The final rod broke as i stored it in the rod locker. Not in tubes by the way. She nor i will own another Berkeley rod anyone soon. Haha. That being said, i enjoyed your video.

    Brad and Edwin, great video! I love the new intro too!! I've been out of college for quite a while... Being professional is such a key ingredient that seems to be missing from so many young adults and even those old enough to know better adults, except those that are truly self-starters with a good understanding of business and how it works. I was actually watching the video from a perspective 180° out - how to find good anglers to sponsor and how to know when to approach or agree to sponsor them and what qualities to look for in them. It is all about what they can do for my business and how to best reward them for their efforts. It is the same as any other type of marketing - it has to be cost effective and generate revenue. I was able to glean a lot of quality information from the video! Great content. I really like the videos that touch on the business side of things on occasion.

    I love Berkeley products..I haven't seen much of a selection of what Berkeley has to offer in shops around here in northern California. unfortunately there isn't any big name tournaments even though the delta and clear lake is "world renowned" for its fisheries so there isn't much exposure to fishing and its products..for me it is hard to spend $10+ on a bait that I cannot see in person, really keeps me from expanding my repertoire of techniques and patterns

    Hey Mr Evers.
    I’m a younger angler and I want to go pro so bad. There is a problem however. Fishing the opens is one: very expensive. It’s doable for me but on the upper end of the budget, the other problem is the fact that my equipment (my boat and electronics in particular) can’t hold up to the abuse of the opens or hold up to the technology the other competitors have. And I can’t afford to upgrade my equipment.
    I just wanted to know if you had some advice? Even if you don’t this video helped a lot!

    I'm curious and have a question for Brad. How much consideration do they give to older anglers and if their is a "cutoff" for age for a guy to still be considered viable? I would think as long as they can sell product and get gear out the door that they would still be considered? Thank for the video!

    One question I do have is, how does using cross brands affect sponsorship?
    For example I love using Berkley crankbaits soft plastics and fishing line, but I also like using Lews Rods and Reels? My confidence setups ( Like David Fritts)
    Does this hurt an angler looking for sponsorships?

    Edwin, thank you so much for this content! That is a big luck that young anglers in the US have such opportunities! I have a question for Brad: have you ever considered the creation of the program along with universities that could allow talented young international anglers to realize their dreams as a pro? You know that is only possible in the US. As for me, I follow my dream and apply for Master's Degree program this year. I consider only universities with bass fishing teams and there are few that could fit me. If I be accepted, I will receive an opportunity to become a university bass angler this fall. I feel sorry for anyone going into this industry- these guys are made to whore themselves out for these big companies or- give up the dream and go home because there's no way you can compete otherwise. Well, unless you happen to be independently wealthy and can afford to buy your own boat and outfit it with all the latest gadgetry. But- that's precisely why doing so costs as much- literally speaking- as buying a new home- otherwise these guys wouldn't have to sell stuff for these companies- and that's what this whole thing is about- selling stuff. Out side of that these companies really don't see any reason for the sport to exist or for them to be involved.

    • @anarutherford7077
      @anarutherford7077 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly why it’s so refreshing to have people in the industry like Brad who is passionate about the sport of fishing. That’s why they’re all here in the first place for the love of it and since most aren’t “independently wealthy” it’s nice to make a living doing something you love.
