Just ordered the m03. Definitely been thinking about getting a moisture meter for a while. The price was way more then reasonable.

I like the EWM03. I like the options. I also like the fact that the EWM01 changes colors. They both seem to be worthwhile to own. Great show! Take care!

Kenny, I have never had nor used a moisture meter. Maybe that should be something to put on my shopping list. Good review and thanks for the information.

Depending on what kind of work you do in the shop and what kind of stock you use Paul, a moisture meter can be a very handy thing to have. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

Nice video Ken. Definitely a handy gadget to have in the shop. One limitation with the pin style meters, though is that they only read the moisture as deep as you can get those pins into the wood. The pinless meters scan deeper and will give a more accurate picture of the dryness of the wood. I splurged on a pinless meter and it scans 1.5 inches into the wood. Also you can set it for over 100 specific species of wood. It is significantly more expensive and probably more than i really need lol. At the time I felt it was absolutely essential to have it. It probably really wasn`t. Thanks for the great video.

I would love to get my hands on a pin-less moisture meter but for now, I am stuck with the pinned style. Thanks for tuning in Glenn and for chiming in with your comment. It's appreciated.

Not something I feel I need at the moment, however if I start doing wood/resin turning then it's something I will invest in 👍

Very interesting video. Thanks for sharing. I have a pin moisture meter for more than 6 years now. I use it to determine the moisture in our fire wood (to be) a few times per year.
Although it was cheap, about 15 USD, it has been working OK for me, until last month.
That time I bought new firewood and I wanted to measure the moisture content. But it didn't show any number. The test procedure (that you have to follow after not using the instrument for a longer period of time) went OK, but practically in the firewood it didn't show anything.
I have no idea where the problem can be. Changing the batteries didn't help. In the manual I couldn't find any further information.
If anyone has an idea what the reason of not working can be, I 'll be pleased if you can let me know.
I guess you are the first woodworker, who doesn't mind pin moisture meters. Everybody says that the pins damage the wood, etc. Of course it does, a little bit. But imho it's neglectable because when you use the wood of woodworking projects, you cut it anyway. And I guess flames don't mind those tiny holes.

I hope you get your moisture meter issues figured out Hans. I can't imagine what the issue could be. I would much prefer a pinless type of meter to get a reading of the moisture content deeper in the stock but for now, that isn't in the cards for me. The small pin holes that are caused by these moisture meters are not that big if a deal and if it is, the moisture test can be done in off cut areas if need be. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with you comments. It's appreciated.

Great job again Ken! I have the same meter that you already had and you are right about the battery situation. Mine, the batteries gave out and I never remember to pick up new ones.
Question... are these both pre-set or do they need to be calibrated from time to time?

    • @acutabove_woodworkings

As far as I am aware Dennis, these units are pre-set. There is no calibration needed. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in.
