Sergei Lyapunov, I have found, was a very competent composer who composed very competent music. He did, however, have the capacity to leap far beyond competence and allow his true brilliance to shine. This composition, composed in 1915 and published in 1921, is one of those examples.
As usual, there is another version of this sextet on youtube, but it is broken into 5 (!) parts. Because of this, I uploaded the whole thing here for easier listening.

I liked it even before I listened
Almost 80 Y.O., NEVER heard this before. THAT'S what makes life worth living!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's beautiful.
Thank you for uncovering this masterpiece. It's a shame that this, and Lyapunov's other work, is only rarely recorded and even more seldom performed live - particularly in the United States. This is really an amazing piece - truly goes beyond "competence," as do many other of Lyapunov's works, particularly the Transcendental Etudes.
And two phenomenal piano concertos to boot. Incredible composer of elite level music.
A forgotten masterpiece. It’s sad that he didn’t write more chamber music
I couldn't agree more.
