I've watched it at least 30 times over the years, and if God grants me more time on this earth, I plan to watch it thirty more times.
c'mon you can get another good 60.
This was awesome ! You get it brother !
Amen!
Here’s to the sunny slopes, of long ago!
I think I've watched this movie about 100 times.
Blue Duck is one of Goated bad guys!!! Whoa
Oh wow man! What a great tribute to the greatest western ever made. I saw it back in the nineties on Swedish television and was completely hooked after the first episode and I too think it is a gorgeous emotional spirited wondrous tale.
I re-watch it completely about every two years and I still get goosebumps when I hear the music and know what a great experience I am in for. I recently did just that and went looking on youtube to see what others thought about it. And I found your nice tribute.
Well done man and .. Cheers 🍺
Any person who appreciates this masterpiece is a friend for life. “It’s been one hell of a party”
@@oletimer5853 Thank you sir!
Cheers 🍺
Perhaps the best western ever made. A beautiful film
Thanks for reminding me that it’s high time for a re-watch of this masterpiece. Cheers
I looked for anyone doing a reaction video to Lonesome Dove and found only one and it was very poor. One of the things that makes it so good is it doesn't follow the basic story line of good guys wins and everyone falls in love and gets the object of their desire. It is much more real life. The good guys get killed too. The women refuse those that love them and go for the bad boy who deserts them in the end.
That was a superb review of hands down the best film ever made, and the best novel ever written.
I love lonesome Dove and was curious if there was anyone who made a reaction and found yours. It’s so joyful to watch other people experience the movie first time. ❤ lmfaooo “the old shit that is great” category
Excellent review. There are maybe 2-3 vids on all of the youtubes reviewing this series at this level.
This movie has always been more than just a movie to me .. it shaped my life, in ways I can’t explain (and I’m sure you don’t care about) Lonesome Dove is my Mantra !! Thanks for the review .. I love when someone else appreciates the masterpiece
Me too. Even named my first son Gus.
I understand that feeling too
I just posted on another LD site about how I was 19 and married when this first aired in January 1989 and I have lived my life ever since to make Gus and Cap’n Call proud of me. Some would say that was silly but I know I’ve been a better man because of those two characters
I loved Lonesome Dove ..it's my favorite.. I cried when Gus died 😢
The book is 100% better than this masterpiece of a mini series
Ah,…I read the book also because I’m a reader and I’m one of those people who say the book is ALWAYS better than a movie but,…in this case I’m not so sure. First, in the book Call is a lot more expressive and vocal where as in the movie Jones plays everything silent and close to the chest. That was a winner on his part. Second, Gus doesn’t have the same enthusiasm and quick wit in the book as Duvall brought to the screen. Not disagreeing with you bc the book was superb but so was the movie in this particular case.
why am i crying?
i was in elementary school when this show aired on tv for the first time
my parents let me watch it even though i shouldve been in bed for school the next day i loved this show and the following year when cbs aired it again i watched again and when the show came to dvd i was one of the first people to buy it at my local walmart i think the youngsters of today dont fully grasp how epic this serial was its intertwining story lines coupled with outstanding actors made for the best western ever made
this movie was riveting television back then and still is today for those who havent seen it i reccomend that you do this isnt your traditional shoot a bad guy every 15 minutes with a colt single action army sure theres gun play and violence but theres a story behind each of the main characters a movie could be made about each of the main characters that would easily be an outstanding movie
I was 19 and married when it first aired in January 1989 and I remember it very well because it literally changed my life. I’ve of course watched it so many times now that I can quote the next line before it’s said. I’ve lived everyday since then to make Gus and Cap’n Call proud of me and I know it’s made me a better man. Period.
Sounds like you had some awesome parents btw
Not so much awesome But certainly not bad id say typical for the time for what its worth i still have the dvd copy and its in pristine condition
I had NO idea that Basil Poledouris wrote the soundtrack to my childhood. No wonder I loved this soundtrack.
Great review!!!
A seminal novel that captures perfectly the pathos and bathos of life in the late19th Century, from the mundane to expansion. Not your grandfather's Western, the actors work like a well-oiled machine, investing the story with human warmth and bonhomie. Duvall and Jones bring Gus and Call to life in ways that transcends "acting".
Nice video. I just watched all six hours one Sunday two weeks ago. It's my favorite guilty pleasure.
Best Western next to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Tombstone.
great review. I first saw this on vhs as a little kid in the 90's. now as an adult i watch it every couple years.
The music was great for this. It is a character itself, I can't imagine any other music would have been as good. Robert Duvall has said Gus was his favorite role ever, and he has so many great roles... but I agree.
I suggest the other enstallments in the saga. They don't disappoint!
Hell yeah! I always try to get people to watch this..they're missing out. I've seen the other stuff, Dead Man Walking, Return to Lonesome Dove, Streets of Laredo, The Outlaw Years, and have enjoyed them all. This is clearly the best though and when I saw it again in HD it was likely seeing it for the first time...absolutely beautiful. Greatest thing ever put on film. It's a time machine.
I've watched it more than a dozen times
One of my upcoming videos was gonna be about this show but I was totally annihilated by your review. You even mentioned specific things that I was absolutely planning on mentioning. Awesome review!
BP also did Robocop & Conan.
Yep! And also Starship Troopers and many others! And although I believe he never quite managed to top Conan, I personally think he came pretty close with Lonesome Dove :).
I asked my friends if the had even heard of it and only one out of the ten knew
That’s very sad. This should be required in school for all 10th graders to watch.
Remember how they made us read certain books in school, well same thing with this.
@ agreed
Exactly!
