    So, I know this rant is a bit winded (and aggressive) but I appreciate you guys coming out to watch! If you have something to add, please leave it down here in the comments section for further discussion with fellow Controller nerds lol
    One thing I also forgot to bring up is the series 2 revision. This videos is focused more so on the series 3, but since I was already discussing it I probably should've brought that up. There's no evidence to suggest the Elite Series 2 got a revision during its current run unfortunately. Even if it did, the same problems happen with this controller in all the same spots!
    Okay, I'm done ranting 😂

      Despite what you say about the 2 and 3 i still wanna see what microsoft comes up with I dont own an elite or any really fancy custom controller I have the stock one with stick extenders and trigger stops so I havnt tested it personally but if microsoft really does fix the 3 like everybody wants them to I might actually buy one but after like a year so that we can see those long term reviews roll in and if anybody had serious stick drift/bumper/anything issues im not gonna even think about buying a controller that cost over half the cost of my console just for it to break in 3 months

    They favor comfortability over durability . They should make pro controllers that have less features but last longer. Because they waste time making these random features when all people really want is a controller with 2-4 paddle’s , that last a long time

    I loved my Series 1. Maybe I just got lucky, but it was exactly what I expected and lasted me about a year and a half with few mechanical issues. So when it finally became unusable, I was actually excited to get my hands on the Series 2. It looked sleek, and I just thought to myself, "The Series 1 did fine by me, and they couldn't possibly go backwards." Boy was I wrong. Now I haven't used the controller in a while now, so I don't even remember what issues I had with it. I think it was something along the lines of stick drift and one of the sticks didn't even click. It was something like that. Regardless, this was all within 1-2 months of even owning the controller, making them literally... And I mean literally unusable. For all I know it came outta the box with these problems. After that experience, you would have to show me multiple videos of people praising the fuck out of the Series 3, without being paid to do so, for me to even consider buying another Elite Controller. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
    Edit: I'm also not the type to buy warranties. It's expensive enough as it is. If I'm gonna pay 150+ on something like a controller, I expect to get my moneys worth. For my controller to be broken damn near right out of the box, I wouldn't even want a replacement.

    • @chrisgee9111
      @chrisgee9111 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should have taken the replacement and sold it, would have least got your money back?
      Agree, these things are expensive!
      My experience is opposite, S1 was garbage S2 been great BUT recently bottom grip started peeling, new bottom chassis required at £60.
      Can buy a brand new controller on eBay for £100.
      Have to say, I do really like the S2 though.

    • @uriNATE14
      @uriNATE14 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get where your coming from not wanting to buy warranty, but you should be thinking about it the opposite way man, the more expensive something is , should be more reason to insure it, like u don’t get a 100k car and not get full coverage on it ya know? I just got a series 2 and I paid $20 more for 3 YEARS coverage, I had my series 1 controller 2 years with no issues and only cashed in on the warranty because I wasn’t using it anymore and figured I could use the $200. Lol. Buy the warranty and u can literally get ur money back minus the warranty cost 3 years down the road even if u don’t want to replace it.

    I stand by my statement from a year ago. The razed tournament and I’m assuming the ultimate are the best controllers. I’ve had mine for a year. And this is a year of hard use on Fortnite which is known to destroy controllers and the only thing wrong with it is the left thumbstick is wearing down. And it’s still not bad because the thumbstick were created so thick. I genuinely stand by this controller.

  • @dorjanhajdari2670
    @dorjanhajdari2670 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm disappointed no one has utilized lidar sensors to calculate the position of a joy stick instead of using the good old direct contact method. There are keyboards that have moved to laser triggers, the mechanical click just being there for feel. So they could do the same thing with controller joysticks. Just a bit more math and will probably cost more. But I think it would be a good add for an almost 200 dollar controller. Imagine if stick drift can be fixed by either swapping out a joystick insert, cleaning the joystick and the socket, or recalibration the lasers.

    I just wish they made one that was *exactly* like the stock controller except for the paddles. That way, there would be less stuff that would go wrong. (And stock Xbox controllers have been very reliable for me.)
    Sincerely, a big fool who just bought a new Elite Series 2 because my 3-year-old one failed with its bumper. It's hard to go back once you get used to the bumpers and customisation (shift stuff).

  • @Zamm1n
    @Zamm1n 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Those adjustable tension thumbstick modules were a mistake, not only do they make the modules less reliable and more prone to drift, but they increase the amount of slop in the sticks (the mechanical deadzone) because of the increased amount of moving parts. You can really feel it in comparison to the new Series X controllers that have slightly better recentering force on the sticks than the old ones. I think I used my Elite S2 like, 3-4 times? Then it went straight back in the case and I went back to using my Elite S1, entirely because of the sticks.

  • @KhalDrogo493
    @KhalDrogo493 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You can also add the fact that most controllers doesn't have mechanical switches for buttons but insist on membranes which fail way too earlier. My 45€ Hori Octa seen a lot of abuse on Streets of Rage 4 and the buttons feel still great. If a 45€ keyboard can afford 80 high quality mechanical switches, any stock controller should also come with mechanical switches too.

    i really enjoy the rants, man. I get really annoyed by reviewers that get the new package and never go back to product months later or do teardowns (i know they have a LOT of things to review so they can't always). So all the viewer / consumer is left with is a really nice controller or gadget or widget that is fresh out of the box and of course it's really nice day one. Car reviewers fall into that same category for me. yeah it drove great on the test loop, cool. How does it do when it's -20 out? does it creak all the damn time? does the bluetooth take forever to connect?

    This video reminds of my my 360 wireless headset I had once that had a 90 day warranty. Had one it worked for actually a decent amount of time but when it replaced it with a new one it died in like 100 days.
    Called Microsoft and originally they denied the claim but after persistence on the phone they escalated it and I got someone who could get me a new one. The person even told me on the phone the cause was actually the charger they sent with it. The guy said he would send a different charger in the mail with a new headset and it survived over 5 years until the 360 became obsolete.
    If I recall correctly they never did change the default charger sent with those headsets so only those who called in got got their value back on them.

    There also could be that Microsoft has realized both these “Elite” controllers have had terrible launches and to this day have many quality control issues. It might be the case they’re done with these controllers and don’t want to make another one to avoid another lawsuit after what happened with the series 2. That being said, if they make a series 3 they really need to work out the durability issues as their main priority.
    I’m thinking, maybe they can just tune the controller to have the extreme tension on the right thumb stick, change the thumb sticks to something more reliable, and change the triggers to only have a racer and smart trigger. The ability to switch between a 50% and nearly 1% trigger stop. The latter being clicky as we love mouse click triggers. The paddles are fine, better than the first one since they aren’t sensitive and are smaller than the first one. Keep the profiles at 3 and keep the accessories feature. That being said, it’s hard to compete when Razer has those Wolverine controllers, the PowerA controllers are bang for your buck, and Extremrate allows you to make your own pro controller with their parts. (It’s not easy considering some require you to solder some stuff on and that’s always a hassle.) At the end of the day, the Elite controllers are truly the case of hit or miss. Mostly being miss as the things are breaking down on many people rapidly. It’s hard to say if a Elite 3 will happen.

    I don't understand why there is no company that makes controllers with magnetic potentiometers. There is no direct contact so there is absolutely no way they develop drift from the pads grinding away. The dreamcast controller and sixaxis controller had a stick that used magnetism instead of resistive pads and they are extremely resistant to drift.

    Did you know that all Xbox controllers after the 360 era have a fatal flaw? I don't see anyone talking about it. If you press one of the face buttons down and wiggle your finger just a little, it will fire the button like a turbo function. This is makes it so that "double presses" happen extremely often, ending up with buttons being pressed when you didn't want them to.

    i have an elite 2 and play warzone almost daily. My controller has held up very nicely you just have to know how to take care of it. Your video on keeping stick drift at bay is very good. using the paddles to replace stick clicks is key. You also mentioned dust being a big problem which is true luckily pure isopropyl alcohol will fix about any button issue. My bumpers have slowly quit working 3 times over the year but i just open the controller apply a small bit of alcohol to the button and it fixes it like magic back to 100% working order. Regular people dont know these tricks and just write a bad review and buy another pricey controller.

    • @vCuda
      @vCuda  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      While I do understand what you're saying and all of these methods do actually work to counteract issues, the problem isn't "just knowing how to take care of it." Why should I have to disassemble and fix a $180 Controller period? It shouldn't require that much on the consumers end for a product to be usable. Especially something like a pricey pro Controller

    • @somerandomgamer1260
      @somerandomgamer1260 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vCuda you are right. The issue stems from the shitty components used. I dont know much about button technology but i agree the fact ive had to maintain my controller via my own research is annoying. Microsoft may very well design them to break intentionally.

I appreciate the no holds bar approach to all you do. I have been literally watching reviews for the last 2 weeks on every controller out there and haven't been able to settle on what i want. I have scuf, Battle Beaver, Extreme rate, and elite series 2. Nothing ever meets the expectations or needs of us as consumer gamers. At times its basically settling for something "good enough".

  • @rickd6914
    @rickd6914 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Rant is 1000000000000% warranted. It's paddles design and having trigger stops was the only revolutionary thing for me, but even they are pointless if the sticks are garbage.
    Had 3, and returned the last.
    The Victrix is the controller that has been the most refreshing for me to use in a long while. It's probably the opposite of the Elite in the respect that it performs really well, but its the materials that its made with that makes it feel cheap. It's not that its feels cheap like it would break, you can just tell they used standard materials to help bring the price point down. Ergonomically it feels great in the hand and the back paddles/buttons function feels the best outside of how the elite does it. The trigger width and trigger stops are the other big pluses to this controller.
    It's not without its flaws, the triggers stops first setting can feel too sensitive. You can use the standard sticks, but using Kontrolfreaks on it is a must, but i use those on all my controllers anyway.
    Most of the negative comments I've only found focus on how it feels cheap or it feels to light. Basically all to do with cosmetic crap that means nothing if all you want is to do is consistently destroy people in FPS games. I'll take performance over fancy RGB lighting any day.
    I emplore people to give the Victrix a shot for $100 makes it a steal. The more attention it gets the more reason Victrix has to keep improving on it. They got it right from the inside out and how it performs, where others like MS and Razer seem to focus on the premium feel of the outer shell over the internals and how it functions.

    I dropped my first series 2 controller a few times then some of the paddles started to not work that well, so I got it refunded then got a new one. Since I learned from my past mistakes, I treated that one like a king and it 2 paddles still broke (had to press extra hard for them to register) after 10 months. annoyed me a lot.

    Question, what if the elite series 3 has a whole new joystick mechanic that's completely different from every other controller? Like magnetic joystick or something just out of no where? And they guarantee 100% stick drift free. Worth every penny?

    • @vCuda
      @vCuda  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would be, but again, why would Microsoft feel obligated to do that? It's not like reviewers would care that much, they just look at surface level features most the time anyways. Especially the bigger ones who get sent Microsoft products
      At the end of the day, there's no reason for them to reinforce a product that people will love regardless of how reliable it is. So keeping it unreliable just guarantees more sales

    Bit the bullet and bought a Series 2 about a year ago. Within 6 months both bumpers failed so sometimes it would register one normal click sometimes it wouldn't register anything at all sometimes it would register two clicks so I literally couldn't play cod or fortnite at all. Got my warranty replacement and within HALF THE TIME the left stick just simply stopped working. It clicked and moved completely fine but in the games, sometimes I would move forward normally sometimes I wouldn't move at all lol so it's literally unusable I can't move half the time it's like how tf does that even happen? Checked scuf's wesbite and customized a controller...$250+ yeah smfd lmao seriously. Now I'm forcing myself to learn kb&m cuz these controllers are such a scam. $180 and they're guaranteed to break no matter how good you take care of them yet people keep buying them.
