Hello, i have recently acquired a very similar lathe (MX-210v). I've done a bunch of reading while getting familiar. Here's some tips I have discovered. The plunger of the dial indicator should be parallel to the direction of travel to avoid tangential error. The parting tool must be as square as possible and as rigid as possible. Lock the carriage and compound slides, and snug up the cross slide (so it still can move, lol). Many recommend a solid block to replace the compound for rigidity during heavy processes like parting. HSS cutting tools blanks 1-3 are all just different sizes but can be ground into any shape you need like cutting, shaping, threading, notching... the round blank can be a boring tool, but so can the others if ground to that shape. It can also be used to make any shape tool like forming. They could be used as is for brass if aligned properly in the tool holder. Brass doesn't need the same top relief as steel, and aluminum needs a sharper relief still. There are tons of HSS tool frinding videos. After watching a few, it doesn't appear too difficult, and the theory is pretty straight forward
    Happy machining

Thank you for sharing your valuable insights! The tips on aligning the plunger dial, ensuring the parting tool is square, and using a solid block for compound replacement are particularly helpful. It's great to know about the versatility of the HSS cutting tool blanks, and we'll definitely explore grinding our own bits for different applications. Your expertise is much appreciated as we continue to enhance our lathe setup. If you have any more tips or tricks, feel free to share!

The "springy"bit on the mag stand is a fine adjustment screw for the indicator.
