I reckon John Cadogan of Auto Expert got it spot on when he said, in relation to car care, that there was a continuum with people who didn't give a toss at one end and what he called car cleaning nazis at the other. A lot of people are in between. On ceramic coatings they are not attractive to a keen detailer who gets a lot of satisfaction from the process - if you enjoy pampering your car a ceramic coat just seems superfluous. I used to have a routine before I got sucked in - I'd polish a quarter of the car once a month with AG SRP (before that used Turtle Wax Original). This meant the car was cleaned and protected 3 times a year. It actually worked - I always had beading and my car was the cleanest on the street. Simple times😂

Rupes Uno Protect. You'll machine polish that E36 in about 30 minutes, have a cup of tea (digestive too) and then buff off. Lovely wet look, nice beading and super slick (I use Bilt-Hamber and AutoFinesse by the way) Nice video & the BMW is looking great

You have answered a question I had, thank you. I want to protect my 4 year old metallic grey paint work on my M140i but I also enjoy the process of polishing it every few weeks. So a wax I put on & then can’t wax my car is not the answer. I’ve been using an Auto Smart gold carnauba wax that I picked up from the rep a couple of years ago. Works well and lasts several weeks. 2 coats gives fantastic results, but I often run out of time so it just gets the single coat. When I use this up I will buy some BH Speed wax as I’m very impressed with the other products I’ve bought having seen your reviews. The BH wheel cleaner nothing short of amazing and great value to.

I wasn't going to go the ceramic route.... until Infinity Wax Synergy lite came out. The appeal of that? Long term filling for non machine polished paint that's outside 24/7. Followed up by infrequent Synergy QD. Not applied it yet so we will see if it can cover the light swirling that I can only see in certain light at night, but know is there so would like to cover it without machine polishing. Give Auto finesse Power Seal a go. Put it on with your DA and a soft pad, comes off nice and easy. Leaves you with a brilliant gloss that looks more like a wax than a sealant. Protection lasts for ages as well. I believe they have stopped making it but you can still get hold of it.

Totally agree with all the comments on here. I love giving my cars, when new to me, a 2-stage correction. I love then applying a really high quality wax (Swissvax for me) , topping up with a caramic spray after every maintenance wash. I’d feel locked in with a ceramic coating. I like to get to my paintwork and give it a polish once a year if necessary. I also like trying different waxes from time to time. Again, a ceramic coating would prevent that. Durability isn’t a concern at all for me. I love detailing and spending time (and money!) on my cars. I’m just not interested in applying a semi-permanent coating and then leaving it.

Your car looks great Jon. I also shied away from ceramics on my black 67 Chevelle. But having a very soft single stage, I found it needed a light polish every year. Ever since I costed it with CSL, it has eliminated swirls and marring. I have not tried any of those toppers you have. But I just stared using NV Lustre, which is an Australian product. Lustre is the best topper I’ve ever used. It has some filling with great saturation, gloss and slickness. Gloss and protection for ages, far superior to any wax I have used in the past, easy to maintain a every 2weeks 3 vehicle wash. Once the 2 show vehicles are polished and sealed they are sealed, no swirls. The daily van that does the miles is proving a coating is long lasting and it's a smart repair Van so gets hit with paint overspray 3 times a day.

I live in a part of Australia where it's very hot (a cold winter day is 25C, 77F Summer is normally 40C+). We also have a lot of airborn iron ore dust which is known to be very abrasive. My thoughts are that my, soon to arrive, Lucid Red Pearl Mustang has soft paint and will need to be protected from the abrasive effects of the airborn dust and the severe UV attack. Therefore I was thinking it best to use a ceramic coating. I'd love to know your thoughts.

waxes can get a bit wierd in really high temps. the panel temps of the cars in the sun can be huge and the waxes can breakdown and soften. but if you put a coating on you cant pamper the paint, your typically only going to be able to layer more films on top and this isnt the same as a nice whizz over with a AIO like tripple.

I thought perhaps the light cleansing and filling properties would help with the light swirls/love marks. Can you use optimum no rinse with carnuba (the green one) on a ceramic coated car ?

if you want but I would personally not do this.. but I dont really want a coat of wax on a coated car or whats the point in having a coating.

Attempted high jacking of the comment section inbound.. been thinking about selling my beloved 2008 E92 325i and getting a 2006 RAV4… anyone think anything about this!? I absolutely love the E92, it looks fantastic, drives lovely (on nice roads) & sounds great too. But it’s turning into a drive ornament, used once a week.. and has a fair amount of money just sat on the drive. I’m interested in a practical car for the bad roads in Gloucestershire, that is pretty cool but I don’t really care about.. thoughts FD family.. 🤙🏽 (it’s coming home!?)

I had an E92 325 too years back, lovely motor. A Rav 4 of that age.... pretty terrible tbh, and a nightmare if anything goes wrong,e.g. engine out just to change the clutch etc. I get what you're saying, but just not with a Rav. They drive terribly too

What about carpro essence every 6 months? All in one ceramic with abrasives, and stronger fillers than cleanser polish. Then top it up with GT sigma every month. That's my plan

dont get me wrong I can get results with all of them. but the tripple seems to be the one I reach for to give me what I need. Its not a pre wax cleaner or primer, its more of a true AIO so Im not waxing after it. but its more to do with the buff. the buff is just incredible. I use small amounts of a soft pad. give it a whizz you will like it for what it is.
