I am glad that you have your dad to work with at your age and your dad made some nice stuff to help you with your job and I like seeing your son in your stuff working with you guys this deal was great to see all three of you guys working together
Fun seeing three generations working together. Your son will tell his children about working on the Farmall with his dad and grandfather one day. But I’d love to be a fly on the wall when he tells them that their gramps was a social influencer back in the day! 🤣
I lost my brother 2 weeks ago to cancer. He was only 68 and he knew Farmall tractors like you and your father do. I love watching you and him together, it reminds me of Greg helping me with mine. Thank You Pete. Best wishes for 2022.
I remember years ago, when my grandpa was still alive, the Farmall A had a bad ring gear. I was in Ag Mechanics in Vocational school. My dad, grandpa and I split the A in the barn, and took the flywheel over to grandpa's brother's to heat and put the new ring gear on. This video reminded me of that memory, those many, many years ago. That A is now at my cousin's place, but still in the family. Those stands for the front half are GENIUS! Well done, dad! Blessings from Ohio! Here's to a better 2022!
Well done guys, and Kudo's to your Dad, who designed and made those stands! Can't imagine a better gift for the guy who owns multiple tractors and does his own repairs. Always enjoy watching family working together, and your transmission tutorial was appreciated too. Happy New Year guys!🎊🎉
Those tractor stands are genius. I worked as a mechanic for a local John Deere dealer in Georgia. Couldn't believe they didn't have stands to split tractors. Used floor Jack's and jack stands very unsafe. Go Dogs.
Pete, another great video. The best part was watching 3 generations working together! Everyone could only hope for an event that brings the family to help each other. I say FANTASTIC!!!! WTG!
I love the design on those tractor stands! My mentor always says "the problem is they don't make it anymore so you need build it" I love custom tools, and those are just genius! Excited to see the next portion of this Pete!!
I love seeing the three of you work together. Very encouraging. Glad she came apart rather easily. You seem to have a good handle on these restoration. Those jacks and stand are awesome, keepers for sure
Your Dad reminds me so much of my Dad. They both look at a problem and design a solution for it. Pete I like the way you all had a part in this video. Wish you all a Happy New Year's.
How great is it that your resident fabriator could build you the stands that not only hold your equipment, but allow it to be moved out of the way while you are working on the rear half of your tractor! Happy New Year to you and yours!
i find it truly amazing that after all these years that the tractor can be taken apart and rebuilt to like new condition. thanks for bringing us along and teaching even old guys like me.
it is awsum to see three generation working on an old tractor i hope you and family all the best in the new year. i will keep following to see how this all comes back together
i Love that 3 Generations of your family are working Together! Love the stands that your Dad made for you. that old screw jack is also called a House jack because they used it for beams in houses and also to help move buildings. keep up the Great work! GOD' Bless your whole family. :)
17:40 Thanks Pete for the transmission & final drive walk through. Obviously you could go into way more detail, but I'd mention that 5th gear is 1:1 or direct drive, where the input and mainshafts are locked together, and the countershaft just spins free (still splash lubricating everything). It's remarkable to me how smooth these units are with all the straight cut gears and sliders. On our Ms and H, I even got decent at rev-matching to shift from 4th to 5th on the fly. On a modern manual transmission, the gears would be in constant mesh and you'd have separate dog-toothed clutches & synchronizers that would engage each gear. There's something to appreciate about, simple, rugged, & reliable.
Such a blessing having 3 generations together. Cherish those moments and memories. The UC Bearcats had an exciting season! They didn’t win against Alabama, but still very proud of them.
This one brought back memories. It's been around 50 years ago since I and my Dad split a tractor. We sure could have used those stands back then. Our method involved an A-frame and chain hoist to support the front half, and wood blocks and screw jacks for the rear. Those stands your Dad came up with look so much safer. May you be haveing a a wonderful Happy New year
Hold onto the screw jack! I had over a dozen of them in our rental fleet and they were so desirable that most of them have been sold off. I think I have 3 left which have been on rent for almost a year! They are simple and work very well.
Hello excellent stand I'm into that iv made a few tools to help out. The other day my son made a wrench part # 678954. Would have cost over hundred but made it for one hours work. Nice to see the 3 of you working together. Happy New Year 2022
Another excellent video, Pete. A little clarification on the transmission. The input shaft and counter gears are always spinning *while the clutch is engaged.* Disengaging the clutch allows everything to come to a stop or to a similar speed so that the gears can be changed.
You might be able to create 1" thick adapter plates for your other tractors as necessary, so you don't have to drill more holes in your base mounting flange. Then you can attach the adapters to the tractor and bring the jack up to the adapted holes all ready to go. Excellent tool!
Great video Pete. Loved the explanation of the gears. I spent a lot of time on a farmall H. I would guess they’re not much different. Interesting to know how all that stuff works. Dads jack stands are pretty cool.
Hi Pete, glad to see that your Dad and Son are on board to help you in this part of your tractor rebuild. Really appreciate your allowing us lay folks to observe and learn. As usual you are a great 👍 teacher. My problem, old guy problem, is retention is weak. So I have to see several times before things start to sink into my mind. Haha, take care, see you in the next video.
So glad I found your channel. Thinking about a career change after 30 years as a scientist. We inherited a farm that belonged to my great grandfather in Ecuador. We have a Farmall too.
I hope you can pass your love for old iron to Henry. I remember fondly the time I spent with my dad, building things and wrenching on equipment. Whilst it wasn't tractors, it was great time to bond and do guy stuff.
Great Video. Family Time is priceless. The Split jacks are great too. I’m needing some for shop at school. The transmission explanation was great, needed a dad joke though.
Three generations working on a tractor! Great viewing. Great invention your Dad came up with! Those stands will save a lot! Patent? Bacon burgers 🍔 yummy! Good trade Henry! Thanks for sharing!
I'm a Millwright by trade and I have always noticed that Farmers in the trade are always some of the best Millwrights because they always come up with creative ideas to solve problems. Happy New year Pete
Those stands are a great idea! You might have a money maker selling stands to collectors. It looks like the stand could easily be used on both green and red tractors.
Hi Pete! Happy new year! Your dad and his experiences comes in handy. Your son looks very much like you. Nice to see 3 generations coming together to do a project.
🙋 Hey Pete, I think it's great that all 3 of you guys are working together. You are very lucky to have such a wonderful dad to help you come up with things to get the job done. Have a great day 🚜
I really liked seeing three generations working together like this. I know that I could never do sth. like this with my father, he is a very difficult character. I am a grown-up woman now, but seeing this is still making me feel good, because I know now that there are families where this still works. And I'm a little jelaous, too, but in a good-feeling kind of way.☺️
Your dad is an awesome gentleman and so creative to make you those jacks. I enjoyed watching 3 generations working together. Looking forward to spending time watching and enjoying your channel again this year and keep up the dad jokes. lol
Happy New Year, Pete and family! Great to see y’all working on the tractor together. Appreciate you showing how the gears work at end of your video. 🇺🇸🚜👍🎉⛄️
👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🗽🙏🏻 Enjoyed! Good to see the three generations enjoying one another! I have a picture with my Son, my Dad and my Grandfather…… 4 generations, I was in my early twenties some sixty years ago. How time flies!
Great video. definitely mechanical ability runs in your family. Whether it is heredity or environment I can't say. Thank you for bringing us along in your deep dive restoration. It is great we get to see all this without lifting, skinning our knuckles, getting dirty/greasy or even breaking a sweat.
Fantastic video Pete, great to see the three of you working together. That is a proper old school way of passing a hammer, brings back fond memories of the skilled, now retired people who trained me. Most mechanics head to the snap-on van for specialist tools; you just ask your dad. Good luck with the project, I look forward to the videos.
What a way to end the old year and begin the next!! Next weekend my daughter's college North Dakota State University is taking on Montana State for the FCS championship.... GO BISON!!!! and GO MD!!!!
It's awesome to see three generations working towards a common goal. Kudos to your dad on the support stands, he should probably free up some time in his schedule for the upcoming orders. Happy New Year's to everyone that makes the world go around.
I just watched your "How to Change Your Life" segment. I can relate to a lot of what you are saying. After 4 university years, a BS in Microbiology, 3 more years in Pharmacy school, a license and a year as a hospital pharmacist and 2 years as a retail pharmacist.....I decided that I really hated pharmacy. Hospital was boring and retail was hectic and very confining. (12 hours in one spot and trapped while pressure, pressure, pressure. There were days when I filled up to 460 prescriptions as the only pharmacist. Those are the days that you go home and pray that you didn't kill anyone.) Also the practice of Pharmacy has degraded a lot over the years. (I won't go into that). I then said to my wife, "I am going to quit and dig ditches if I have to." Luckily, I got guided into Hospital Sales with an excellent company and worked 28 years with them. I loved the job. However, the company's philosophy changed and so I retired with a pension. Then, add 10 years as a fill in Pharmacist for a horrible big box chain and I finally quit the industry all together. At 71 I am starting a new career as a Construction Supervisor with both commercial and residential activities. So this is the third time in my life where I am switching my income hat. I appreciated listening to some of your feelings that I remember. "Can I do this? Will I be successful? Will I like it? Is this another mistake as Pharmacy was?" Life is good, though. And with the pension and social security checks, I really don't have to work, yet I want to. And so onward.
Wow, Henry put on some inches this year, didn't he? Enjoy having him home while you can, he will be off living his life all too soon. My own "little boy" is now in the Army and stationed in South Korea. This was our first Christmas without him, and it just wasn't the same. Hope you and yours had a good holiday season.
Cool video friend really like how you and your dad and son muck in well done gentleman's keep the great videos coming and mostly of all Happy New year 🎉friend from Scotland
Boy does this bring back great memories of my dad my oldest son and me working on the combine and tractors. Life lessons and Dad’s stories. Really enjoy your channel as we had livestock too, everyone should bale hay and clean pig pens, they’d soon realize their lives aren’t as hard as they think. Lee Bretzlaff Villa Grove, Illinois. 20 miles south of the university of Illinois
Great demo on how the transmission works. I have a 1952 Super A that I would love to restore, however I'm 79 yrs, don't have space to dedicate to the project, have never done anything like this and with a heart that is not as strong as it once was.....well, best left to a son-in-law. So I get to restore a tractor of the same vintage via your videos. Thank you so much. I anxiously await each new session. The Farmall letter series and the John Deer letter series tractors are all that is needed to handle all the tasks required to make a living on a small farm as long as one does not have to amortize large debt and they enjoy the 7 day work week on the farm. I can't think of any better life. As my Grandmother Peterson used to say, "Donald, only pray for good health for yourself and others. If you have good health then you can work and if you can work you don't have any problems!" I have learned all we really require is someplace warm and dry to live, enough to eat and something interesting to do. For recreation there are many opportunities to learn more about your chosen occupation and science, geology, history, etc. It's always nice to be able to put the old flyrod together and give the trout, bass or bluegills a chance to keep one humble, eh. I can't think of anything else that is required for a satisfying life. You seem to have found your own Shangri-la. All that said, there are times of things beyond ones control and a little bit of luck helps but all in all, you seem to have found peace and a rewarding life. I wish you and your family a Happy and healthy New Year. Thanks for providing an interesting and refreshing look at a healthy way of life. ✌😊🖖
My dad had a screw jack just like the one your dad has. We used his on trailer houses in the 70's, I agree with you, I prefer them over hydraulic jacks. Your dad is such a genuine treasure and a talent coming up with those stands. I can see where you get your talent from, not to take away from your mom. Great explanation of the working of the transmission gearing. Loved the video, thanks for sharing. Here's to a great year for you and all your family!
I have traded and worked on small farm tractors for years but I never would buy one that had to be broken apart, but those stands make it a walk in the park I don't know why I never heard of this .I'm very impressed with your father he's a thinker.
I am glad that you have your dad to work with at your age and your dad made some nice stuff to help you with your job and I like seeing your son in your stuff working with you guys this deal was great to see all three of you guys working together

never saw a tractor split in half before.... thanks for showing how to do this! you're dad's supports are fantastic!
So nice to see three generations, doing the dirty job on one vintage farm machinery👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Priceless. One day Henry will cherish these videos
So great seeing your son and Da working together!
It is good to see three generations working on the tractor . Henry will never be sorry he worked with his Dad and Grandpa together on something .
Great to see 3 generations working together. Gives me peace of mind, that the USA will be ok with folks like you still doing what needs to be done.
Good to see Pete Sr. and Henry back in the videos. Got yourself a good kid there. Those stands are absolutely genius!

Those jacks and stand that your Dad built are top notch, nice present. Three generations that is pretty cool.
Three generations working together on a classic tractor! It doesn't get any better than that. Thanks for another great video.
You can see his mother in your son, both in look and in demeanor. Family is a wonderous thing.

I wish you and your family a Happy and healthy New Year.
Thanks for providing an interesting and refreshing look at a healthy way of life.

Lots of wisdom there Don. Thanks for sharing it.
Here's to a great year for you and all your family!
love seeing fathers and sons working together
I have traded and worked on small farm tractors for years but I never would buy one that had to be broken apart, but those stands make it a walk in the park I don't know why I never heard of this .I'm very impressed with your father he's a thinker.
Happy New Year J.A.F.A.!!! GO! Southern California
