They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. Well, you've just witnessed Her Majesty Northern Valkyrie Goddess Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen, she is Dutch). Floor has classical background, rock academy behind, and used to be a vocal coach for a number of years. Floor is the most versatile and powerful female singer today and can sing anything from more pop-y style, classic opera, to metal screams and growls. She Can scream. And growl. And sing like an angel. And growl again. Floor sings emotions, not words. Floor joined Nightwish in the middle of their Imaginaerum world tour in late 2012 (which includes this show from August 2013). Previous singer, Anette Olzon (she's currently in Dark Element) left the band while they were touring, and there was no certainty what to do with all the upcoming shows. They called Floor (her previous band did tour with NW in the past, and they knew each other). Floor flew immediately to help them out and temporarily replace Anette for the rest of the world tour. She arrived two days before the next show, and she had only 48 hours to learn the entire setlist. And she did. There is official documentary about all that -- "PLEASE LEARN THE SETLIST IN 48 HOURS" ( th-cam.com/video/vhExkmWKMEU/w-d-xo.html ) For Floor it was first really big gig with Nightwish, 82K people, at the time she was only for a few months with the band. After the world tour (in October 2013), they made Floor their official member. This song was performed at the end of 90min show, at the 1hr 10min mark. Nightwish formed in '96 in Finland, initially with Tarja (Tar-ya) Turunen as a vocalist. She left the band in 2005, and Anette Olzon stepped in, until 2012. The bassist with a cool beard is Marco, and he sings some parts too. He has his own solo project outside the Nightwish. The mastermind behind 99% of lyrics and music is a keyboardist Tuomas. Guitarist name is Emppu, and the drummer in this show is Jukka (Yukka), but later he was replaced by Kai Hahto because of health issues. Flutes/uilleann pipes/guitar/vocals - Troy, he did not perform in this song. Nightwish is better live, always, so if live performance is available, go for it. In their performances, they often using recorded backtrack of a classical orchestra for their songs. They have very diverse music, from more light songs to epic scores like this, and to really heavy metal stuff. I believe most songs from Tampere concert (and any concert) are worth watching as well... Shudder before the beautiful from Tampere version is Top 5 for me for instance. In my opinion.

The music is called symphonic metal and is very populair in Europe and South America. The band is from Finland and founded in 1996. So far the band has had 3 vocalists 1 Tarja Turunen (Finish) pure opera voice also very good live. (until 2005) 2 Anette Olzon (Swedish) more pop style. fine in the studio but not good live. (until 2012) 3 Floor Jansen* (Dutch) (current). * She is the vocalist you saw in this clip. She has a classical vocal background education and can sing any style she likes from jazz to opera high to growling low. Believe me when i tell you you have not even scratched the surface yet of what she's capable of. Band members Tuomas Holopainen (The keyboard player and creative mind behind the band. He writes about 95% of the music and lyrics) Marco Hietela (the viking with the long beard (Bass and vocals) Jukka "Julius" Nevalainen (The drummer) Erno "Emppu" Vuorinen (the hobbit like guitar player) Troy Donockley ( a person who did not play on this song but is a multi instrumentalist from the UK) The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the world-tour a lot of what happened was recorded. Studio versions are just appetizers. Nightwist is best served live. This song was taken from the Wacken Open Air metal festival in 2013 where Nightwish headlined in front of 82.000 metalfans. Take your pick from that setlist - you will not be disappointed.
You'll definitely enjoy Nightwish if filmscores are your thing! They're a major influence for them (alongside some folk and progressive elements, plus of course more traditional metal stuff) and they even have completely instrumental/orchestral versions of the last few albums (and this song, too) if you're interested. Hans Zimmer, one of the biggest idols of the songwriter Tuomas Holopainen, pretty much considers him an equal these days so that says something of the talent level too. :)
Welcome to the NIghtwish world wide community. You mentioned studio version. I think you'll be disappointed, but give it a try. I think you will join most of us who believe they are made for live concerts. They are tight, polished, top rate stage presence, especially Floor, and their production quality is best anywhere. Keep in mind this was live, no studio gimmicks or tricks and no do overs. Every song is a unique journey of its own thanks to the genius of Tuomas, keyboards, who writes music and lyrics for most of their songs. Nightwish invented the category of Orchestral/Symphonic Metal. Their entire set from the Wacken Festival in Germany @ but for full effect you REALLY REALLY need to watch this @ Band was formed in 1996 with Tarja as their front vocalist. Annette was the second and had a great studio voice but couldn't carry it on tour so she was replaced by Floor Jansen who remains their current vocalist. Marco (bassist) does vocals as well and Tuomas (keboards) has written everything for the band since it was formed. The music, score, lyrics, transitions....everything. He is on a completely different level than any writer.. Band is from Finland but Floor is from Denmark. She is also a voice coach and teacher. The epitome of theatrics during performance. She commands the attention and reactions of the crowd
The best word to describe that lady and the others in the still you showed is "ecstasy." Floor Jansen and Nightwish have that audience of 82,000 transfixed, almost like they're under her spell. The other thing that strikes me about her is the way she stands and her hand motions (very powerful, and purposeful). And that drummer back there goin' ham!

That "cultural influence" is a lot of things, but the pipes are definitely Celtic. Troy Donockley is English and brings a whole new element into their compositions.

It's not a 'chick'. It's Metal Goddes Floor Jansen from the Netherlands. :-) The guys are from Finland, except for Troy (who is not in this particular video), he is from England.
When reacting to this band, as much as possible, stick with the live performances. Their studio versions are rather subdued, so those would be better reacted to only when live performances aren’t available. Edit: they have a couple of great music videos if you’d want to hear some of their studio stuff. The songs “Elan,” “Noise,” and “The Islander” have great music videos.
You do not need youtube premium, just use an other browser, like Opera, i have not seen a AD since i use Opera. (Or use someting like ABP). Opera + ABP kills every AD.

What I love about watching reactions, especially from the US, is how insulated and isolated they are musically. They're amazed that there a over 80k people at Wacken, they don't know what or where Wacken is and they never knew that Symphonic Metal existed. They are so engrossed in their genre and/or sub genre of music that nothing else exists. Really it's sad to see such musical ignorance, but they're only Yanks.
I will be the first to admit that I get stuck in my little box of what I call music. Which is why I always loved what reactions have opened me up to. And now that I'm back, I have so much more to explore! I'm ready to be educated....again! Lol!

You've just been Floorgasmed! You must share this with 20 friends! Nah brah! You've just been introduced to the symphonic-metal that is Nightwish. They are the kings of the genre. Their music definitely takes you away to other lands. The singer's name is Floor Jansen (hence the "Floorgasm" term.) She is a treasure! Sang in several metal bands before finally landing the spot in Nightwish. She is the 3rd singer to be in this band (Tarja Turunen and Anette Olzon previously.) And yeah, she's a giant -- she stands at 6'1"! My suggestions: "Storytime (Wacken live 2013)" "Ever Dream" (Wacken live 2013) "Romanticide (Wacken live 2013) In fact, that entire Wacken 2013 is worth checking out.

Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Well, you've just witnessed Her Majesty Northern Valkyrie Goddess Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen, she is Dutch). Floor has classical background, rock academy behind, and used to be a vocal coach for a number of years. Floor is the most versatile and powerful female singer today and can sing anything from more pop-y style, classic opera, to metal screams and growls. She Can scream. And growl. And sing like an angel. And growl again. Floor sings emotions, not words.
Floor joined Nightwish in the middle of their Imaginaerum world tour in late 2012 (which includes this show from August 2013). Previous singer, Anette Olzon (she's currently in Dark Element) left the band while they were touring, and there was no certainty what to do with all the upcoming shows. They called Floor (her previous band did tour with NW in the past, and they knew each other). Floor flew immediately to help them out and temporarily replace Anette for the rest of the world tour. She arrived two days before the next show, and she had only 48 hours to learn the entire setlist. And she did. For Floor it was first really big gig with Nightwish, 82K people, at the time she was only for a few months with the band. After the world tour (in October 2013), they made Floor their official member. This song was performed at the end of 90min show, at the 1hr 10min mark.
Nightwish formed in '96 in Finland, initially with Tarja (Tar-ya) Turunen as a vocalist. She left the band in 2005, and Anette Olzon stepped in, until 2012.
The bassist with a cool beard is Marco, and he sings some parts too. He has his own solo project outside the Nightwish.
The mastermind behind 99% of lyrics and music is a keyboardist Tuomas.
Guitarist name is Emppu, and the drummer in this show is Jukka (Yukka), but later he was replaced by Kai Hahto because of health issues.
Flutes/uilleann pipes/guitar/vocals - Troy, he did not perform in this song.
Nightwish is better live, always, so if live performance is available, go for it. In their performances, they often using recorded backtrack of a classical orchestra for their songs.
They have very diverse music, from more light songs to epic scores like this, and to really heavy metal stuff.

The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the world-tour a lot of what happened was recorded. You'll definitely enjoy Nightwish if filmscores are your thing! They're a major influence for them (alongside some folk and progressive elements, plus of course more traditional metal stuff) and they even have completely instrumental/orchestral versions of the last few albums (and this song, too) if you're interested. Hans Zimmer, one of the biggest idols of the songwriter Tuomas Holopainen, pretty much considers him an equal these days so that says something of the talent level too. :)

Nightwish invented the category of Orchestral/Symphonic Metal. Their entire set from the Wacken Festival in Germany @ but for full effect you REALLY REALLY need to watch this @ Band was formed in 1996 with Tarja as their front vocalist. Annette was the second and had a great studio voice but couldn't carry it on tour so she was replaced by Floor Jansen who remains their current vocalist. Marco (bassist) does vocals as well and Tuomas (keboards) has written everything for the band since it was formed. The music, score, lyrics, transitions....everything. It's not a 'chick'. It's Metal Goddes Floor Jansen from the Netherlands. :-) The guys are from Finland, except for Troy (who is not in this particular video), he is from England.
When reacting to this band, as much as possible, stick with the live performances. Their studio versions are rather subdued, so those would be better reacted to only when live performances aren’t available.

What I love about watching reactions, especially from the US, is how insulated and isolated they are musically. They're amazed that there a over 80k people at Wacken, they don't know what or where Wacken is and they never knew that Symphonic Metal existed. They are so engrossed in their genre and/or sub genre of music that nothing else exists. Really it's sad to see such musical ignorance, but they're only Yanks.

Nah brah! You've just been introduced to the symphonic-metal that is Nightwish. They are the kings of the genre. Their music definitely takes you away to other lands. The singer's name is Floor Jansen (hence the "Floorgasm" term.) She is a treasure! Sang in several metal bands before finally landing the spot in Nightwish. She is the 3rd singer to be in this band (Tarja Turunen and Anette Olzon previously.) And yeah, she's a giant -- she stands at 6'1"!

Romanticide, The Greatest Show on Earth, Storytime.... Sooooo many more amazing performances by nightwish. You have to play them all. Storytime is another great one. Maybe do the entire live Wacken 2013 concert, one song at a time.. The live stuff is the best stuff...

Throwing my 2 cents in for Storytime as your next reaction. Romanticide if your into heavier stuff. Enjoyed your reaction. If your into classical music and movie sound tracks, Nightwish is right up your alley as those are some of the influences of this band.
