he is the first western sensei (so far i know )that keeps his body mechanics and speed moving like his 20's eventhough he's probably on his 60's amazing
you got it!! that's why kung fu is the original martial art in this case. Unfortunately, chinese hid too much, and okinawan masters did their best but it was not enough to achieve Chinese proficiency. I'm not saying that kung fu is the best in the world, I'm just saying that karate at its highest point of development is kung fu in itself.
@@kungfuneuquenthats incorrect. hes been a long time student of aikido for decades as well and so he adds aikido to his karate whenever he can and when he teaches. therefore he is not ever doing kung fu…
It’s a tremendous human event to see the striving for perfection, which is unattainable, then see “the pointer of the way” teaching his method for the search of perfection. In a nutshell it’s nice to see a Sensei that gets it and can relate it in words and actions so the student can reach for that which is seemingly unattainable.
Was that Marcel in the first clip??? When my first kid was born, I used to have his channel on in the background A LOT 🤣🤣 he had a 70+ kata video playlist - by the time she was 1yo, I knew his dog, the guy walking on the beach, the whale 🤣🙏 glad to see he’s doing well!! Bonjour Marcel!!
I'm not a Shotokan stylist but to me Sensei Hotten is Shotokan perfection. But any video I've seen shows him demonstrating parts or principles of Shotokan. I'd love to see him do a full kata. Can anyone post a link please?
The real pearl in this video is Hatton sensei's concluding statement. An excellent metaphor. No matter our level our karate is an incomplete puzzle looking for that piece(s).
My discipline is Matsubayashi Shorin Ryu, and currently cross-training in Shotokan Karate (in a JKA-affiliated dojo). It's really been expanding my knowledge exponentially. I first got interested in Shotokan Karate studying the bunkai of the Heian kata and getting ideas for the Shorin Ryu Pinan kata.
at a first glance i thought that it was andre bertel, but then i saw that this sensei had control over the impact he was putting on his uke and thought no, that's sensei hotton! 😂
One of the few western sensei that compares to japanese. His mastery of movement and mechanics in karate compares to Shirai sensei, Kagawa sensei, and other giants.
Normalmente lo mas seguro es salir a la parte contraria, por fuera del adversario. De esta manera cabe la posibilidad de que el pare el ataque con su brazo izquierdo y vuelva a contratacar con el derecho . Aunque lo dude es demasiado rápido. Buen video 👍, .
it all assumes the Uki is a Karate guy. What if he is a western boxer. Sensei Hotton is amazing but he never shows anything dealing with a non traditional response. The real world is different then just Karate guy vs Karate guy and often the boxer in real world fights beats the karate guy. Kick boxing is more realistic. Like boxers they learn to take a punch!
Rick Hotton is in a good shape, but the reality is different, on the street no one is standing in zenkutsu dachi and watching your performance in reality it doesn`t work like that that`s unrealistic for streetdefense
Maybe true, but it’s a matter of knowing when to apply what at which time. Life is situational, and I’m willing to bet in a life or death street situation, Rick would be able to do just enough to defend himself and get back home safely..

Stan Schmidt(RIP), Norman Robinson, and Malcom Dorfman of South Africa JKA could do the same.
it's because his karate doesn't stop when he steps outside the dojo. his lifestyle and dedication is pure karateka
Helps he’s in good shape with low bodyfat 😅
Tremendous information even in these short videos.
This is the most fluid Shotokan I have ever seen! Its more like kung fu.

it's because he's trained in aikido and tries to incorporate their methodologies into his karate in terms of flow of energy

Love seeing the Kenpo concepts and principles in shotokan.

Hello from algeria and OSS

Let's just take a moment to appreciate the ukes.
Indeed, These guys are great (Marcel Rodrigue, Gabriel Van Rel, Tommy Butler). Much respect.
@@shotokankarate9690 great control. not hitting your partner on the neck or in the groin..
Amazing relaxation!!!!
Awesome!!!
A true master of body movement and Karate

Yeah Andre Bertel has no control. Pretty much like Asai Sensei.
We invite you to visit us and our karate school in Lithuania.
I remember Saint sensei teaching like that. And I miss it nowadays.
are there recordings of him?
muito bom

Iam Black Belt shotakan

Sensei, I noticed the patches of some of the karateka are from JKA, are you affiliated with JKA?
Great movement! Just such a shame the attacker always lunges forward with an oizuki in zenkutsdatchi then freezes like a statue.

This is such a bad argument and I don’t know why people keep making it
