I don't compliment the Clans often, so enjoy this... I think Demitra is a very bright and clever woman who will go far in her career as a mechwarrior. She clearly recognizes the superiority of the Lyran System and has taken to applying it...badly as a 65 tonner is clearly a Light Mech, but she can be forgiven for her sub-par Clan training.
sadly you are mistaken, at 65 tons that fits nicely into an ultra light unit and nothing more. The standard for the light mech is the Awesome at 80 tons being the perfect balance of enough speed to eventually arrive and enough firepower to ensure a nice crater remains of enemy units to facilitate easier counting while a Cyclops is a great scouting report relay mech.
I know saying Wolf is your favorite Clan is like saying Bud Lite is your favorite beer or that Metallica is your favorite rock band-- it's predictable, it's basic, and it doesn't have any gimmick to prove how unique and interesting your tastes are-- but to hell with it, Natasha and the Boys walked right into Anastasius Focht's master-level death-trap, after the Clans as a whole had already lost and their own victory wouldn't have mattered, and won anyway just to show him. You can shout "overrated" all you want, that is badass and should be recognized as such.
Natasha and Ulric both knew that the clans would lose. They played some strategic level fuckery with their own side. The goal of Ulric, Natasha, and Foct was to stop the invasion. They succeeded. And mauled the clans to boot. I’d say they accomplished their goals.
Wolf was my favorite clan when i was young largely cause i liked Wolves (The animal). Over time my loyalty is more Wolf-in-Exile but i've taken a new interest in Blood spirit. I don't think anyone can have a 'Wrong' favorite clan (So much as a wrong reason for it) So long as you recognize the flaws of your favorite faction.
Although the Clans lost the battle, The Wolves won their engagement handily. This set them up to control the Clans. post battle. Especially since Clan Wolf had the ONLY clear 'win' in the entire planetary battle. All others had either lost heavily, or at best, resulted in a 'draw', with only one other Clan racking up a 'minor victory' score. Politics. It all came down to politics. Clan Wolf pretty much knew the Clans would be halted, and thus set up his Clan to win their battle to gain the prestige to claim overall leadership of the Clans after the Battle of Tukayyid. As a result of Tukayyid, the Clans had to respect their Inner Sphere opponents. Their arrogance before the battle now tempered with hard won lessons in the heat of a form of battle that they had never anticipated. The Inner Sphere was accustomed to 'all out' combat, whereas the Clans were more comfortable with lightning swift, small-ish engagements. The Clans were NOT prepared for a 'slug fest' against entrenched and fortified foes.
@franksmedley8619 It did help that Clan Wolf also brought two to three times the number of units compared to the rest of the clans. It was estimated that 25 galaxies would be needed to match Comstar. Yet most the clans brought only 2 to 2.5 Galaxies, while Clan Wolf brought 5. More than just skill, they knew how to play the logistics game.
Interesting how Ghost Bear adhered to Zellbrigen, and still managed to win one of its two objectives, where Jade Falcon suspended Zellbrigen, and still failed to achieve either objective.
I think the bridge crossing attempt and the cautious approach hurt them more than Ghost bear. Also Ghost bear stocked more supplies than the other clans after Wolf so they could afford to be more aggressive.
That Mist Lynx pilot sounds like me in MWO at the end of the night. "Oh, there's fighting? Oh, I'm missing half my 'mech? Oh well. Curse them for daring to be better than me, even though I'm not even trying!!" :)
I'm also surprised that she was forced into the -D config, and not the -C config, unless they were trying to avoid using ECM? -C config is all energy for offensive weaponry. Only the AMS uses ammo. Or the -B config, as that's the laser/missile configuration that the Wolves supposedly preferred for the sake of the Tukayyid battles, and definitely has more firepower than any other version of the MLX. About the only advantage the -D config has is long-range direct fire with low heat.
@@CriticalRocket Ah yes, the infamous logistics. Wasn't that a quote at the beginning of all this? Or did I hear that somewhere else, recently? About how boys play at strategy, men play at logistics? I've even heard that's why the Sherman Tank was designed the way it was, even though its stats on paper seem to pale in comparison to German tanks: it was designed to be easily repaired in the field, since there would be no nearby facilities, and it was designed to be easily transported by rail, and to fit on existing bridges in Europe. Basically, it was designed to be a logistician's dream tank, not necessarily to be the biggest, baddest assault tank around.
It is a good anaology for the battle yes. The majority of the clans were too overconfident in their tech doing all the work for them, they forgot that an enemy can adapt. Only Wolf saw this and to a lesser extent Ghost bear.
If they thought Clan wolf was the most dangerous, that's where nuclear ordnance should have been deployed, rig the target sites to blow and wipe out as many clan soldiers as possible. Because "Hippity hoppity, get off my property"- Tex of the Black Pants Legion.

Probably not a good idea, given that the Clanners still had plenty of planet-glassing Warships that the Inner Sphere lost centuries ago. The fact that the Clanners were fighting under the restrictions of zellbrigen was the only reason Comstar was able to defeat them, and even then, the Wolves and Ghost Bears pulled out wins. If Focht had decided to employ WMDs at Tukayyid, then the Clans would've almost certainly stopped playing nice and just settled things with orbital bombardment, honor be damned.

Are you *Sure* about the Exterminator, Rocket? Sarna net *Clearly* states that it is, in fact, a Medium Mech. Granted at 65 tons it's a pretty hefty Medium, but I'm sure a Shadow Hawk could stand toe-to-toe with one! kek
Other than questioning who may be more correct on the definition of medium mech I always view the "in the field" stories as if from the POV of an unreliable narrator. It allows the overlook of errors as well as preventing confusion as some are intended to be read as such and clash badly with accurate accounts as a result. There is also the Kells and Kurita situation where every mechwarrior was tripping on acid or some shit and thats the only explanation....
Imagine for a second what would've happened if the other clans had prepared and fought with the same level of intel as the wolves. As I've only listened to the audio books, which are missing vast chunks of the story, I don't know whether it was due to the other clans' stupidity and arrogance or Wolf withholding information outright as, from what I understand, they didn't actually want the battle to succeed in the first place. But what bothers me most about the clans is probably how vicious and mean spirited any sort of conversation about them tends to get. It's rarely ever a minute before someone's screaming 'dEgeNeRatE sPaCe fuRriEs!', no matter if it's a discussion or just dumb fun. :/ Most of the great houses are terrible in their own unique ways. That said, really enjoying these videos, looking forward to the last two. :)
Ulric made sure to share most of the information he had concerning the Inner Sphere and offered the same advice to the other Clans as Natasha had given him, which allowed for Clan Wolf's success. He even offered to act as overall Commander and coordinator of the Invasion. An offer he knew would be refused due to inter-Clan rivalries/jealousies, hyper-competitiveness, and arrogance.
13:30, Kinda like in the book "Wolf Pack", where the writer said that an Awesome had a 20 ton advantage over an Archer? :) I think he got the tonnages right, elsewhere in the book, too. He apparently just can't do math.
Gotta wonder if the Wolf "victory" wasn't really a massive long term plot by Focht. Comstar already had won the battle for Tukayyid by a vast margin with the clans only one tie to their credit (aka a lost) so to fight the wolves was just a bonus. The overall "one-sided" feel of the wolves is so incredibly weird from the whole of the campaign that it leads me to think Focht threw the match to screw with ulric by turning everyone against him. Not just the other Clans who just watched their best and brightest go down in flames, but his own clan as well. Keep in mind Focht had learnt more about the clans while staying with Clan Wolf then he like's other to let on. He was very well acquainted with the house divided nature of Clan Wolf politics that Ulric really likes to ignore and choose to exploit it. The Wolves' most noted causality was SaKhan Garth Radick the highest ranking Crusader in Clan Wolf, his death left a massive power vacuum that Foucht knew Ulric would try and place someone loyal to him rather then another crusader like Conal Ward. That someone of course being Phelan Kell, Ulric's pet freebirth spheroid who has only been a wolf for two years(and a warrior in half that time). Focht took a bet on this to build up resentment against Ulric Kerensky to the point of starting a Clan civil war that would entirely derail any attempt to restart the invasion.
Its a nice head cannon for sure, but for me its just Clan Wolf being the Clan equivalent of the FedSuns. Clan Wolf and Clan Ghost Bear are shown from the start to be just about the most ok with the innersphere clans till Novacat defects and diamond shark/seafox loses most of their warrior caste and basically just become some rando merchant clan that sells to clan shit to the innersphere. As time goes on they do eventually take over Terra and become Ilclan while also changing how they do things A LOT compared to the rest of the clans. What im trying to say is “Theyre the protagonist” for the clan side. Even when clan wolf goes full crusader, clan wolf in exile is a thing till they form back up as The Wolf Empire and control a significant chunk of the Innersphere. Till this day when it comes down to picking factions i’ll really only side with Clan Wolf, Ghost Bear or just go Merc. I could never really get into the Innerspheres houses and stupid bullshit houses. If forced to i’ll go steiner just cause i find the memes of throwing assault mechs at problems till theyre not problems anymore funny.
According to what I've heard, and based on the wiki, it seems that the wolves brought 5 galaxies into the fight, or at least elements from each galaxy and brought as much as they could, giving them a huge number advantage compared to every other clan that dropped.
