Burial's genre is 2AM, Alone, empty orange glow streets - a little dampness in the air. You're tipsy or high - coming down. That's the feeling.

2 A.M., alone, dampness, empty glowing streets after a drizzle or intermittent rain, maybe a cigarette, that's ok; No need any other substance but music to get high, that might be the reason I'm 53 y.o. and most people think I'm 35 🤷‍♂, plus I didn't got stuck with the music of "my times" like most people do; THIS is my time, I'm still around 🤷‍♂, always forward. Burial, to me, perfected the soon dried U.K. garage evolution that was dubstep, after two years dubstep became so repetitive and unimaginative and he took the essence of it and mixed with ambient, minimal, dub...and made it interesting again but with his very own sound, there are hundreds trying to imitate what he does but no one sounds exactly like him. Greetings from Buenos Aires 👍👋.

If you still look for more try
    "Burial - Tunes 2011-2019".
It's a massive double-cd mega compilation, containing 7 of his best EPs, almost 2 hours of playtime.

fun fact about this album: Burial sampled bullet casings and reloading sounds from Metal gear solid 1+2 and used it as percussion. Really unique soundscapes on this album. listen to replica by oneohtrix point never!

I think reason the track 'untrue' is the albums name is because it's one of the hardest tracks to enjoy. I think it's meant to be like one of those moments in life that isn't particularly memorable or noteworthy but it makes you feel strong feelings, the kind of feelings you normally 'bury'
(sorry if this comment sound pretentious, I can't be bothered to edit anything )

19:27 Yep, you get Burial's sound :) He's from London, btw. Another classic from him is Kindred EP, definitely recommended. It's only 3 tracks but about 30 minutes long so it should be fine for a standalone reaction video

Burial is the best. I want to recommend the "Stoled dog" song/track he made. Its soooooooo goooooood
Try listening to him at night, driving back to the place your live or sitting on a night bus. It's such a "night city music".
This music is about empty streets, wet walkways that reflect night lights, about loneliness in the night city.

You ask what genre Burial is? Burial is the electronic generation's Mozart. He defined a lot of electronic music especially within dubstep, future garage and electronica. Burial is a composer, all his sounds are made on basic software but deliving the most amazing compositions I have heard.
I'm glad you're listening to his things - wait till you learn about the sample he's used, from early TH-cam covers to Beyonce and Usher. Bullet drops, chains, pens, balls dropping and rolling - the soundscape is huge.

Very interesting to see someone being introduced to Burial , especially this record. Me personally I hold this record very close to heart , Burial’s sounds got me through some very hard times.. you pointing out that you don’t really know how to feel when listening to Untrue is exactly what I had first time hearing this , those very odd beat breaks and repeating samples throws you off guard during the entire thing . That’s what’s makes Burials art so unique , I always think he actually wants you to find out your own imagination while listening to his music. Sorry for any grammar mistakes English isn’t my first language. Really enjoyed your reaction

The background behind this album and how it was concepted is very interesting to me. How it barely took him effort to craft, yet how intricately he layers and samples on each song is just so alluring to me.
Definitely recommend looking into it one day if you haven’t already

The string section in Archangel, is a sample from the opening sequence from Metal Gear Solid 2...Burial takes a lot of his influence in samples from gaming. The bullets falling in Near Dark are from MGS1.
    Genius.

i listened to this album when i was in london visiting my ex. i'm from florida and used to the heat and sunshine, so the UK and city of london was the complete opposite. it captured a very specific mood for me: dark grey skies, damp november air, night city lights, underground trains -- it's a heartbreaking album really given the right setting when you listen to it. don't get me wrong i love london and i wanna go back desperately, but this album captures the depressing atmosphere you find in most big cities at night.

Walk around a rough part of London on a cold night, or any urban area in the UK really, and you feel this album. I've never found an album that perfectly captures a scene like this before, and I'm not sure I ever will again. I could write a whole thesis on this.

There really is nothing quite like this album out there. Burial is an absolutely unique artist and I've been listening to him for 13 years now without tiring. If you feel like diving deeper into his cosmos I highly recommend checking out his Tunes 2011-2019. It's two and a half hours, so you need to be in the right mood, but it is an amazing compilation/mega-album that takes most of his solo work from this time and rearranges it into one cohesive listening experience which really feels like it tells a greater narrative. It starts out with his more recent stuff and the first half hour is basically just ambient, and then it goes into his more "classical" sound with banger after banger. He originally released all this as a bunch of EPs and singles, so when Tunes 2011-2019 finally came out, it didn't really make an impact, because all the music was known at this point, but I think it really gives all this stuff a new layer to have it recontextualized like this. And getting to experience all this amazing music for the first time in one go, instead of waiting years and years is quite the privilege, dare I say. So yeah, I highly recommend you check it out when you feel the time is right (preferably at night), you might really enjoy it :)

Great stuff, gotta suggest his Moth collab with Four Tet too.
Also, can i suggest a reaction to Autechre - LP5?
You've done Aphex and BoC, and Autechre are absolutely considered one of the greats alongside them, with a mindbending discog. LP5 is a great starting point, imo.

You should 100% listen to “Hoodies All Summer” by KANO if you want more of that contemporary (ish) London sound. It’s a hip hop record but has some of the same kind of UKG / jungle influences. And it’s just a straight masterpiece.
