I learned a tip for darker drums. When sampling a drum break put it through half time which will pitch it down, then re sample it and pitch it up like 2-3 semitones
lowkey i would not have eqed the sample like that off the bat. high end frequencies are much clearer and distinguish themselves a lot easier than low end does, and once the beat is done and it gets sent to mixing and mastering the sample may not have enough air in it inherently to sound the way you want it to. No hate, no shade, jus a lil input.
I feel like the high ends can get in the way of the vocals. I don’t mind rolling the high ends off if there is going to be a voice on it. If it’s strictly instrumental then keep those intact for the mix to sound full.
The Tascam Collection and the JH24 Tape machines are gems especially for these type of beats. Madlib and Dilla used some of these for their beats. Underrated af.
@@permanentfacelessness there are. Give ChowTape a try, it's a really good one, also comes with oversampling options and Tape Cassette 2 is another free one too.
I've been trying to achieve that sort of griselda/conductor sound to add my own elements within. This video really helped me understand 🔥its a sub and like from me
This is the best “West Side Gunn Type Beat” I’ve heard this whole year! You did your thing! This is how his last project should’ve sounded low key. Thank you for this masterpiece you inspired me to get back into producing and rapping.
At the 1st beat I think that the bounce should come mainly from making the drums little more off beat especially delaying the hihats' moments and not overly increasing or messing with the swing knob like you did, but overall you nailed it...
Its not like someone can teach you how to think about it. All anyone can teach is the technique which is extremely simple. The rest is on you…otherwise you’ll just sound like whoever you learned from. Once you learn to match bpm and key, the rest is your own creativity.
@InkCampKenny I realized I didn't explain well. What I mean is most channels just show you the finished product, and not a step by step. I know the basics already, but it's things I haven't learned after 14 years of making beats. I can take a song and get the part I want, how do I chop it into the keys? How do I get it to snap exactly on a 4 or 8 pattern? How do I change the pitch without switching the tempo? Etc
@@interviewwithdevin2902 I use Serato sample, look up a tutorial. It automatically syncs the tempo of the sample to the project tempo and changes pitch without changing the tempo
Man this is dope! Both of these are dirty af! Me I use alot of LP and HP filters and sample alot of static from vinyl and white nosies like tape machines... yo this insight you brought is golden...
Second beat works best - still prefer sampling from vinyl - producers loving that tape wobble sound to make shit sound straight dusty - I prefer MPC to sketch/work an idea then toy with it on computer in the final stages - outboard gear adds character and warmth and steers away from sounding too similar to everyone else’s sound - your sound has to be yours and stand out like a unique voice
I have uploaded the full song here : soundcloud.com/280hix/whats-her-name

@@icevisuals8759 what he said^^ 🙌🏻
If the high end is too sharp, I'd cut a bit out personally. Or throw a vintage plugin on it like Origin or RC20

When using samplette, i don’t recommend to use any filters, the random samples are so good… now with the new fl update it’s all very easy!

This can all be achieved with an all analogue equipment set up. Plus actual vinyl to sample.
An thats what is wrong with modern hip hop kids using plugings instead of taking the time to dig records
Thank you, i finaly made good griselda type beat.

Can you show us how to correctly sample, please 🙏
can you make a video entirely about the drums?
Every time I watch someone use a sample, they just tell you what to do, so I never learned how to properly do them.
U ain't lyin dead ass Like thts why I don't use samples like tht so much work u have to do

Good comment, thanks for sharing the knowledge also !
Really appreciated
dope as fuck
Forgive my potential ignorance, but if you're placing drums off the grid is the swing knob necassary?
Yes because im waiting snares to hit sometimes earlier sometimes later, to get that more unique mpc feel
Hard AF
legend
How are you pitching soul vocals down and tryna call it Grizelda??😂 Nah this video is good stuff man fire production and thanks for sharing with us.
Its easier to get the desired bounce if you play the drums by hand
Ofcourse!
Australia sit down 😂😂
