  • While the Founding Fathers were declaring their independence in Philadelphia, Tucson was a fledgling fort struggling to survive. Local historians give us a glimpse at life in Southern Arizona in July 1776.

So according to this video, Tucson's story only begins with the arrival of the Spanish? Was there nothing important going on in the region before their arrival? Ancient cultures lived in the region centuries before the Conquest.

Hohokam (/hoʊhoʊˈkɑːm/) was a society located in the North American Southwest, in the areas now part of Arizona and Sonora, Mexico. Hohokam practiced a specific culture, sometimes referred to as Hohokam culture, which has been distinguished by archaeologists. People who practiced this culture can be called Hohokam as well, but more often they are distinguished as Hohokam people to avoid confusion.
Most archaeologists agree that the Hohokam culture existed between 300 and 1500 AD, although cultural precursors may have been in the area as early as 300 BC.[1] Whether Hohokam culture was unified politically remains under controversy. Hohokam culture may have just given unrelated, neighboring communities common ground, helping them to work together to survive their harsh desert environment.

Yeah..... and apparently nothing noteworthy happened from 1780 to present

Correct. There was nothing cohesive enough to call "Tucson" before the Spanish. There were random tribes scattered in and around the area. Sorry but history not lost to time often begins with the white man and his concept of written language, record keeping, government, and imperialism.

The title and subject of the video is about Tucson in 1776. The context around that time was that the Spanish settled the area. If you're looking for information about the entire history of the area of Tucson, or the native history of Tucson, then you should look for those videos.

Nothing note worthy. The Indians did not even have the wheel. After thousands of years they made almost no progress.

Tucson was a Native American village populated by the pima papago people of the Sonora desert. It was founded by THE FIRST NATIONS PEOPLE.

By the 'First Nations People'.... who fought and murdered other First Nations People to take the land. I'm Comanche - descended from Quanah Parker. The First Nations were just as brutal and greedy as any European. Greedy for Land, Game and territory. It's a Human problem... not a racial or tribal issue.
If First Nation or Native claims were intellectually honest, we'd be backing the Jews, who are clinging to the land they have a 6k year documented history of living in.
But political narratives and motives tend to get in the way...

Tubac vs Tucson based on ant population alone: I'd pack up and move to Tucson. Those ants in Tubac know who is boss and its not the humans.
Bugs aside, that sentiment is so true for many of us. For some reason we stayed. I've been here for 8 years, it was supposed to be 2. For one reason or another, this has become a long term place.

That's all a false illusion to make it seem that the people have power
