It's kinda sad seeing all the actors and actresses who were major characters have their name removed from the theme in the next season after the one they were killed in
I used to get scared as a kid listening to this but now this is just gold. Reminds me of the good old days when Walking Dead was the best zombie series I've always loved
As an Atlanta resident I can tell you some of the scenes in the first season hit you like a truck in terms of the impact especially when you thought of so many places you saw that you actually recognized. It made it even creepier ., and the theme from the first two seasons really hammered the point home.... this story is going to scare you. The bottom line nothing scarier than fast zombies combined with music that makes you feel like you are the one being chased. Bear if you wanted to scare us you most definitely hit the mark
What I like is that despite the title, it never shows any zombies in the intro, nothing. Just abandoned buildings, cars, roads and very little signs of life. That alone gives me the chills, that alone gives you the feeling that some pretty bad shit just went down
Many years later I still get goosebumps from the intro theme. There's a very urgent feel to it that perfectly captures the rapid downfall of society and possibly humanity.
This show has a special place in my heart. When I was 15, my dad let my older brother and I watch this show for the first time with him in the same room as us, but the opening scene is what attached me to it. I’m 16 now, and am allowed to watch it on my own, and after finishing the first episode, I couldn’t get enough of it. I binge-watched this show every day and got through seasons 2-9 (mid-finale) in just 2 months. I’m rambling now, but I love this show so much, and even though I’ve been spoiled around 12 times, I still love this show. This theme song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. I’ll never forget this show.
*walkers. Zombies are the unrealistic and are too overpowered. If a zombie/walker existed irl, it would have been fast at first (Like is s1 of twd) and would have rotted more and become slow and stupid (s3-today)
The theme has always been one of my most favorite things about The Walking Dead. It is far more complex than I realized. There are sounds in there I never realized were there. The addition of some electric/electronic instruments that really stand out in the theme from the finale are thrilling. It’s remarkable, the number of different sections playing different notes after the key changes. The music is very “thick,” as they say. The fact that they could subtly change the theme for 11 years, without most people noticing, is amazing.
@Cole REVIEWS I just started watching this show last month and the first 5 seasons were good, 6 was amazing but the last three episodes were dull, I couldn't watch seven after the first episode. It was depressing but I will try watching it only for Rick and Daryl
Watch everything trust me, then watch webseries move on Fear, eat the shit even if you don't like it, after it move on World Beyond. Don't lose anything of this universe, everything will tie up together and every little detail is so important. Watching it since day 1 and never get bored of it, I would watch even a shit on floor for 40 mins if there is written The Walking Dead on.
People forget how many great episodes season 6 had. Episode when Carl got shot was one of the best episodes if the series. Or the episode when the killed all those saviours and when Carol and Maggie got kidnapped.
I miss the general theme/vibe the first few seasons had. Gritty, tense and eerie. The focus was so much simpler and smaller, giving emotions and scenarios so human and so close to home that it actually questioned your own fragile humanity at some points. Made every episode tense and anxious. It was so good back then.
I think the first is the creepiest. Using he term, "show dont tell," the first doesn't show us any walkers or CGI centipedes. It's really eerie because they're showing what was once a bustling city with people living there, now overrun from the apocalypse.
Reasons why I like season 1 intro Atlanta The bus on the street All the cars on the Highway The RV The Teddy bear the Little girl Zombie picked up Etc.
Season 1 is great, the abandoned houses and the crows and in season 4 amazing how the crows fly out of the tree gives an apocalyptic feeling... You guys rock!!!👍
Who else notices that when Glenn's actor Steven Yuen is shown in the theme that the time is running on that stop watch in season 3 and 4, and then when season 6 comes when he dies, (we just don't know it until season 7) that the stop watch actually stopped, showing that time has run out for him and he meets his sad demise.
Season 2 is my favorite, with that focus-in on Herschel's farm. But I never realized how sad Season 5-6 was with the little girls grave. BTW whoever produced this song did an amazing job. It's basically a zombie apocalypse personified in musical form
The opening they used for the first 2 seasons is still my favorite. Seeing a few of the characters' faces and the abandoned city makes this theme as creepy as it is epic.
When this show finally ends I think it will go down in history as one of the all time most iconic tv shows, People are going to be Nostalgic as hell for this show in the years ahead...

Rock grimes
Sounds like the odd seasons are louder and more horror driven, while the even seasons are quieter and contain slight sound effects.
There's just something so menace about the way the music changes when it shows shane , and I freaking love it.
After watching The Punisher this comment makes even more sense 😁

It's decaying. Like the walkers.
Robyn S. It decays every season
Robyn S. The composer stated in an old interview that he'll slightly change the theme by adding a few instrumentals whenever they make a new season.
It's supposed to be like how the zombies decay, but with the titles.
I think It indicates that things are only getting worst and there's no going back
