- Welcome to the latest chapter of our DIY journey, where innovation meets precision. In this video, I, take you on a journey of building the electronics on my DIY CNC - Matilda, a one-of-a-kind DIY CNC machine that's a testament to craftsmanship and a love for technology.
Matilda is not just a machine, but a product of countless hours of design, refinement, and a spirit of creating something extraordinary from scratch. Built with keen attention to detail, Matilda reflects the robustness and precision every DIY enthusiast dreams of achieving.
A special thanks to Pete from Root CNC, whose fantastic Root Controller has been the brain of this project, orchestrating the movements and operations with exceptional finesse.
I'm also grateful to PCBWay for their incredible services in milling the CNC panels. The quality of their workmanship brings an impeccable aesthetic to Matilda, making it not just a tool, but a piece of art.
For those interested in the beginnings of this project, please check out the first video of this series: Building Matilda: The Birth of a CNC Machine. It's a detailed look into the initial stages of the build, where Matilda was merely a concept taking shape. • Next Gen CNC // Matild...

Stay creative and see you in the next video!

Your level of planning and attention to detail is really something! Excellent work!
OMG how did i miss this!
I really like the look of it. However I have some thoughts on safety. The WS2812 LEDs flicker at a really high frequency. That's not a problem in normal lightning but in machining it can lead to the spindle looking like it's standing still eventhough it's not. That's why there are actually norms on lightning in workshops. At least in Germany that's a thing. This is a hobby build so you obviously don't have to conform to industry safety stadarts but it might be a nice safety addition, that the lights that shine directly onto the machine surface get turned off when the spindle is spinning and a relay turns on some regular white leds that have a big capacitor in parallel.
I really enjoy these series. Could you please make a video about setting up macros in Fluid NC?
Thank you!! I did briefly include macros in my fluidnc wiring video…. Let me know if any specifics!
Very nice channel ❤
Impressive. Very good ideas. Definitely eye candy. Very premium but balanced. Thanks to Chinese manufacturing we can affort these niceties
Thank you! Yes… I couldn’t do without it 😂
i made under beam led light similar but i use ready to use aluminium U-profile were have channel bush in led. light strip and top profile have diffuser plastic. cost 4$ only/meter , and easy install some screw to beam.
Thanks for sharing! Yes this is definitely an easier option 😂😂 I often reinvent the wheel 👍👍
Hi Friend, congratulations, as you told me a few days ago. Onwards and upwards
Thank you!! Hope your build is going smoothly! 🤩🤩
Why's the music so loud compared with your voice?
Sorry! I need new headphones…. It sounded fine before uploading. I’ll buy new ones before next video.
Yes very annoying, have to decrease and increase volume each time you play music :(
It's fine. Sounded good to me.
Considder using geckodrives for the stepper drivers. Thet are silky smooth for steppers and improve steppers to the point where they are more like servo motors because they have an adjustable pot for quiting the pulsetrain. I will never go back to standard stepper drivers.
Thanks for your comment! I have heard of the geckodrives, however never tried! I will certainly keep in mind. I have already purchased some other goodies that will solve my stepper driver issues… stay tuned 🤩🤩
AWWWW, I am just about to buy a Roots Controller but the deal is over :( :( :(
Sorry you missed out!! It’s totally worth the purchase no matter!
Cool machine! How will you detect the dust level? Just ordered Root controller using your coupon code, thanks!
A secret that I will show in upcoming videos 😊😊 feel free to join my discord if you want to help me develop it!! discord.gg/gdkz2Ghy
❤❤❤
Dang! I ordered the Root Controller before seeing your code. :) Oh well. How much did the PCB Way parts cost?
You won’t regret buying!!! Fantastic controller 🤩🤩 you would have to submit a sample file to PCB way to check a quote for pricing 😁😁
@@NEWTechCreative "if you have to ask, you probably can't afford it" 😆
@NEWTechCreative Fantastic Machine. Congratulations! Plans are already available for purchase it? Also, I can get the link to discord to work
Any plans to release Matilda to the public?
Should be available in the next month!!
Ahh shit, just saw the video today after killing my DIY CNC Controller yesterday. Any chance you get another coupon code? I would really like to support your channel through my purchase.
Sorry to hear that Tom!! Unfortunately the promo code has now expired, however I really appreciate you reaching out and supporting. Root controller is an amazing board if you end up getting your hands on one 🤩🤩🤩
You need to stop this, so I'm going to get addicted to your channel.... kkkkkk
Thanks Alexon 🤩🤩
How do we get the discord link?
For the fluidnc discord - check out the wiki for info. You are welcome to join my discord at discord.gg/WP9ZjkY9
Discord link seems to be invalid?
Oh no!! Is that the fluidnc discord?
@@NEWTechCreative yeah its the one listed above
Ah! Thanks for letting me know… they are valid for 30days. I’ve refreshed the link to my discord! Thank you 🙏
@@NEWTechCreative Link is working perfect!
Love the videos, but the interstitial music is abusively loud and obnoxious by comparison to the dialogue which is the real value!
Thanks for your feedback Tristan! Unfortunately I can change once uploaded, however have improved on my latest video 🤩🤩
@@NEWTechCreative No worries. I wasn't certain whether it was the aesthetic you were aiming for with your TH-cam channel or not, however pumping sidechained compressor-style music does have a drastic apparent volume difference between it and the (higher priority) informational dialogue. It's a ballache having to change volume level between segments. You've got a new sub from me, because this project is very much a parallel with my smaller format precision CNC. I found you as I am initially setting it up with FluidNC, perhaps a Masso G3 Touch later. I've gone fixed gantry for stability, and so that I can add fixed chip curtains across the Y axis....
Thanks for you tips and subbing Tristan! Would be great to see your build 🤩
only what i need my DIY machine have this biggest and better spindle. all other have same, motors, but i use DM 556 drivers can use biggest possiple nema 23 motors. and i use old cheap paraller port 10$ controller board, cheap and can use 2 paraller port easy, usb port controller have all too lot problems and not can use safety REALTIME controller. mesa card whit ethernet have perfect but too expensive hobby user and DIY builders.
Nice! Yes the 2.2kw make a huge difference! So many options for controllers these days!
This is just iPhone
Costly copy of Openbuilds
Thanks iPhone
iphone not any use, all use only cheapen and better android. Openbuild cnc have owerprice expensive, ewery men can build DIY better cnc machine 4x cheapen, or same hardware machine 6x cheapen. better motors big, cheapen and better controller, linuxcnc software best safety and real time controll, dont waste time windows software not safe and real time controll, and not flexiple build own additional systems to machine, MGP, relays, own controll panel, display modifications, ATC, etc many linuxcnc can do all this, all other old GRBL or mach3 software not can.
