You like Huey Lewis and the News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83,I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humour. In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

When I first saw the movie, I thought it was about the insane, decadent excess of Wall Street traders in the 80's and how money can make even normal people become corrupt and how psychopaths thrive in that environment. Bateman's peeling off his face had the feel of a reptile shedding its skin and becoming something else. That was quite literal for me. He was a reptile. And his escaping prosecution was clearly attributed to everyone not being able to truly identify anyone else because no one cared about anything but themselves. With one exception... the gay guy.
I had no doubts he committed and got away with his crimes and I left the movie thinking that was the point. The premise was great and the writing hit me from left field.
Fast forward a few years later and I found a lot of really plausible arguments that indicated he imagined the whole thing. It was, to be fair, perfectly set up that way. However, I'm sticking to my original impression.
Btw, while I love all of your episodes, this one is particularly funny. Thanks.

You don't understand much of the humour as it comes from the fact that Garyx is from future.

My mom made me watch the movie cause her favorite scene is Christian Bale running with a chainsaw covered in blood wearing nothing but his bleach white socks. But I was really impressed with the ending and everything it implied. To me the one other thing it also seems to show is that here you have a psychopath killer literally telling everyone around him what's wrong with him. He tells them he's ill, he tells them he does horrible things, he doesn't try that hard to hide it like he secretly wants to get caught. In the end he full on confesses and no one believes him or even bats an eye. A mentally ill man practically screaming for help with his violent thoughts and/or tendencies, and everyone willfully ignores it, which really just drives him closer to his break down.
