Barty has one of the highest Tennis IQ in the world. She mixed up top spin, slice, cross court, wrong foot... etc. When Anisimova used to her slice in 2nd set Barty started using more top spin, when Anisimova used to defense her cross court shots, she hit wrong foot. Its amazing how she destroyed Anisimova's rhythm by mixing all of her weapons.
She is like no any other... what a player

Barty's change-ups with the slice and the deep floaters instead of just thrashing away flat is so good to watch. You have to be a complete player to be able to beat her.
Ash put on a masterclass. Amanda's UE on the overhead put away that sailed long felt like a pivotal moment in the match that she couldn't (mentally) recover from. Barty made her pay dearly for that.

First time I really took a look at Barty's play. She is a natural athlete with evident mental strength and doesn't over play balls. In fact, she seems to know exactly the right shot under the circumstances. Special note: NO GRUNTING. NO COMPULSION TO EXALT IN SELF CONGRATULATORY SCREAMS OF TRIUMPH.

This was def the biggest test for Barty yet. Handled like a champ. Good tourney for Anisimova tho. That backhand of hers is veryyyy easy on the eyes

Barty is a total mystery ‘ and playing her is like a stack of cards decked against you ! You never know what shot she is going to play , she is a quirky player ! Very witty and changes her game based on her opponents real time play ! That makes it difficult to play and read her often ! Plays smart and not hard ! A smart player ! She must be a great chess player ! If not would make a great one ☝🏾! A mystery !

Krejcikova & Sabalenka is definitely the 2 biggest potential threats to her in likely semi + final matchups
Barty is simply a great player! Hope she takes home the hardware. Amanda is going to be the breakout player this year. For her to have to take out the Olympic Champ and the Defending AO Champ 🏆 and the the World No.1 just to make it to the quarters seems unfair.
Amanda had her breakthrough season in 2019, when she defeated Halep at RG and got to the semis where she lost to Barty. Unfortunately her dad/coach died just before the USO which really affected her for a long time. She's finally resurfacing.

AA put up a big fight. She was up 2-0 in the 2nd so she had a chance. From what the highlights she, she was able to give AB a hard time on her serve so AA's future is bright. She should feel good about that match. Barty steamrolled her prior opponent.
Barty is the most consistent and solidest player in all of the WTA today
If Ash is on the court, I want her to win. She's a player who transcends national boundaries. There are few like her in any sport.

@ferzy09 Her slice is part of her backhand. It is elite when you take that into account. She would have been better off developing a one handed backhand though, like Fed or Henin. Her hand eye and size would have been perfectly suited for it, and it would make her game even more versatile, I bet it's one thing she would change about her game.

First time I see Barty's plays too. Pure class! Amanda did great too -- Not many can hang with Barty like her. Her time will come -- Need to work that footwork and service return, Amanda. If Barty keeps playing like this, hard to see anyone taking her #1 spot. Oh, Emma: Watch how Barty play and bring some of that into your own game if you want to be in the top 10 in the next few years.

I knew this would be hard for Amanda because she likes pace. Barty screws with your timing so much that it forces you to guess half the time on your timing. Amanda looked so sad at the end because she normally doesn’t miss easy shots. Barty had gotten all the way in her timing though and wreaked havoc.
For sure. Barty isn't like most other players, ATP or WTA. She is very very crafty, her change of timing is abrupt (in a good way) that it messes with rhythm so much.

When you can vary spin, pace, trajectory, and angle the way Ashleigh Barty does, you can dictate play without a consistent barrage of huge groundies.
Amanda had her big chances in 3-4 games, but she did not score them. Against Barty you cannot afford to commit 35 unforced errors in 2 sets (too many errors). Barty did not play a great match and was patchy throughout the clash, but she managed to make the most of Amanda's poor tactical choices. Amanda can become a champion, if she improves her tactics and does not play points too hurriedly. Barty will risk losing against Pegula, if she concedes these big chances, because the opponent is more clinical than Anisimova and Giorgi.
Barty going down as a all time great
Barty is so tough to beat. She doesn’t give you a consistent pace. The combination between slices and topspin would drive anyone crazy. Osaka gives consistent pace of fast, flat hitting which Amanda thrives off of.
and Osaka had been out of the game for a while and not so crisp in movement and decision-making. Give Osaka a couple of months to play herself into physical and mental excellence, as we have seen.
That said, Anisimova should have a bright future.
@@Hammerton32 Osaka out of the game for a while? She played just as much as Barty coming into AO. They both played USO then Osaka had 3 matches in Melbourne and Barty had 4 in Adelaide.

Barty is unique in her style, but the way she moves and approaches the game reminds of Federer and Henin. So much poise and composure. Wish there were more players like her on the wta side

Yes! Barty is another style of player that no one plays like on tour. Anishomova got the break in the 2nd with her first strike tennis strategy and coming into the met. Not good enough Darren Cahill. Keep trying though, Barty slice is a great point neutralizer and allowed her to set up her forehand.

Gotta say, Ash is really dialled in right now, never played better, so focused, improved her serve and is a baby faced assassin atm ! She’s gonna need a really bad day at the office to not win this
Until further notice Ash is the best in the world on the woman's side. But this was a compelling match. Amanda's what you want in a challenger, athletic, tall, big hitter, big server, very few UEs, good match. Now, Amanda where do you go from here? The head thing is the next level. Barty would yank her off the court wide and to her credit Amanda got some of those back but on her outside wing and by that time she's so far off the court it's an easy tap for Barty to put it away. She's so fun to watch. Don't think Pegula has Barty's tools, but should be interesting to watch from the aspect of two players who can out think most others.
Look like all opponents mentally can't handle Barty's pressure. They all playing her game, not game plan. Wow :-). Number 1 one is number 1.

A few key points...Barty's experience and match management won the day. AA has big potential but needs to grow into a full grown woman's body.
Now do you believe? Naomi is not "the one." Barty beat Anisimova like a drum. Anisimova spanked Osaka. Osaka's either in a slump or her better days are quite behind her. Barty will be a force for as long as she plays with the same level of intensity in every game.
Ash might just win in Australia, that would be perfect for her. The crowd is always loud for her.
