    Very informative, especially regarding use while breastfeeding, around the eyes, and sun sensitivity. You clarified a few things for me.

    Currently breastfeeding and so glad to hear I can add my retinol back into my routine!! 🙌🏼 I’ve seen some things online about not using chemical sunscreen while breastfeeding… hoping this is also a myth!? Thanks Dr. Ellis!

    Thank you so much for dispelling the myth around breastfeeding. I had gotten my skin so clear and glowing that people thought I was pregnant...then 4 months later I actually got pregnant and the hormones made my skin freak the heck out with acne. I have oily acne prone skin with cystic breakouts if I'm not on top of it. But because I couldn't use my normal products due to pregnancy, I basically suffered with cystic acne for 9 months. So after giving birth, I couldn't actually find anything definitive about topical retinoids being dangerous during breastfeeding. Just a bunch of fear mongering articles that say don't do it because it can cause birth defects. But that didn't make any sense to me because I'd already birthed my baby so how was he supposed to get birth defects if he's already been born? And based on the little that's absorbed (if any) and then most likely filtered out before it gets to the milk anyway, I chose to start over the counter Adapalene and it made a big difference in how much acne I get now. I believe OTC Adapalene is approved for use while breastfeeding in the UK but I would have to double check that. I feel a lot better hearing a professional say what I was thinking, it makes me feel that much better about my decision.

      @@samreen9947 AM: Skinfix Acne cleanser, Hero Cosmetics Balancing Capsule Toner, Mary Kay 5% Benzoyl peroxide spot treatment (I would rub that into acne prone areas as a preventative like on my jaw and my forehead), Caudalie Vinoperfect Dark spot correcting serum, Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Moisturizer with SPF 50
      PM: Skin Fix acne cleanser (I'm not really a double cleanse kinda girl and I don't wear makeup), Hero Cosmetics Balancing Capsule Toner, Caudalie Vinoperfect dark spot correcting serum, Youth to the People Retinal and Niacinamide serum, Eadem Moisturizer.
      I would also use the Pacifica Glow Baby AHA & BHA liquid exfoliant a couple of times a week. You use it before cleansing and leave it on for about 5 minutes. I would sometimes use that to break up my oils when I was in a hurry and didn't have time to do a full cleanse in the morning.
      But I thought I couldn't use salicylic acid so I had to drop the acne cleanser, the retinal and the liquid exfoliant. Without salicylic acid there's no way I can use sunscreen without it breaking me out really bad so that was a no go for a while too. It really sucked.
      During pregnancy I also developed an aversion to touching my face, even for cleansing. The idea of touching the cystic acne just grossed me out to much for some reason, not sure why because I've suffered with cystic acne for a long time prior to pregnancy.
      After pregnancy I replaced the youth to the people serum with adapalene and the Beauty of Joseon retinal. They are better formulas, the youth to the people serum is really sticky and yellow on the skin. I also replaced my moisturizer with SPF for the Peter Thomas Roth Water drench gel cream moisturizer and a lightweight k-beauty sunscreen (right now I am alternating between the skin1004 hayalu-cica sunscreen and the Beauty of Joseon Sun Moist Serum.)
      As a side note, you could probably replace the Mary Kay benzoyl peroxide with any benzoyl peroxide leave on treatment that works for you, I just haven't found one that beats the price and I'm supporting a friend. I generally don't favor MLMs or their products.)
      Sorry for the long post, hopefully this helps :)

      Interesting that u mentioned that! I have pcos and have been using tretinoin for over a year. I used to just have one hair on my chin that would keep coming in, but now it's several. Idk if it can be attributed to tretinoin but the timing fits at least. That being said, I think it's worth it to keep plucking because the skin benefits of tret are worth it

    • @starsof1889
      @starsof1889 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Vio9667 I saw great benefits with big time reduction in really bad hyperpigmentation throughout my chin and cheek area. I am not really sure if I can attribute facial hair growth to tretinoin either because it could be any number of things but it would be nice to have some definitive answers. I don't use it quite as frequently on my face anymore. I've been using Azelaic Acid more often. I do use the tretinoin on some body scars that I got after being attacked by a big dog and a surgical scar and I can say it has been so incredibly effective on those problematic areas.
      Curious if we will get an answer here, I wonder if there is actually any reliable data on tretinoin and facial hair growth.

    I listened to a podcast that claimed the molecules in many anti-aging skincare products are too large to penetrate to the deeper layer of skin and/or are water soluble (not fat soluble), which also makes them unable to get past the fat barrier in our outer layer of skin and penetrate to a deeper level. The consensus was that retinol, vitamin c, peptides, etc., just sit on top of our skin and can’t penetrate to the deeper level, which is where they need to be to fix any age-related structural “damage” and help improve wrinkles, skin texture, etc. Now I am wondering if the anti-aging products I’m buying are ineffective. I would appreciate any thoughts you have on this. Thank you!

      Tretinoin has the most researched data in terms of anti aging, so it seems one of the best opinions for that. You can apply a retinoid under the eyes and on the neck, but I wouldn’t recommend it when you have sensitive skin. Your adapalene and bpo can not be applied under the eyes. It’s so irritating. Maybe opt for an eye cream with retinol like the one from The INKEY List.
