    Hi Ross! my partner and I are on the exact same journey as you - We have been granted a 189 back in 2019 and visited Perth for the first time in September 2019 to activate the visa. Our flights are booked for November and we’re going back to Perth as we loved the vibe of the city! Selling everything in the UK and we can’t wait to be there! Your channel has been so informative and useful, we love it 😄 so far our flights haven’t been cancelled or re-scheduled so fingers crossed they stay that way!

      Hi Jo, I am hopefully going to be arriving in Perth on the 19th November - just keeping my fingers crossed for the flights not to get cancelled, and then 2 weeks quarantine 🙈

    As far as I know the Australian banks don't allow opening an account from outside Australia anymore except Commbank but the account only becomes operational post physical verification. HSBC allows opening, transferring money and operating the account as soon as you open it online before you reach Australia.

    Great video! I’d say get a Revolut card from the UK before you leave and then you can use that over here (with a good exchange rate) for free before you get your Aussie card. 😄

Now I registered on VEVO, what should I do next to obtain Residence ID to open bank account and etc. I wondered if you know about this.. I got a last final stage from a job in Geelong (regional VIC) Can I actually move to VIC Geelong straight way without fulfilling 2 years in NSW , would that affect my PR application later on? HR has no clue what to advise me on. thanks in advance.

      You've been able to tap Mastercard / Visa AMEX credit cards & debit cards on all modes of public transport in NSW since late 2019. This includes foreign versions of these cards. You can also use your mobile phone & watch digital wallets. The trial started in 2018. And this is available statewide, no matter how big or small the town or what mode of public transport & irrespective of whether it's a government owned service or contracted out to private operators providing public transport. On a side note, about 10 years ago the private companies that operate most toll roads in Australia joined a common debit system. So no matter what tag you have, from any provider, you can use any toll road. In 2013, all toll roads in Australia became cashless.

      Tolls are heaviest aimed in the poorer regions of Sydney who financially pay to build road infrastructure in the wealthier regions.

      Not necessarily. Perth has winter rain and the place is brown in summer. Brisbane has summer rain and is green in summer. Brisbane is also 60 to 90 minutes from Gold and Sunshine coasts and magnificent hinterlands.

    Hi Ross, me and my family will be moving to Brisbane by end of 2022 as work visa not PR. Can we get a Medicare card also? Or its only for PR and citizen?

    • @ThatJohnstonLife
      @ThatJohnstonLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe medicare is for PR and citizens. Some countries may have reciprocal agreements for tourists, but most other visas may require you to get health insurance

    Great tips Ross!! If you didn't have to quarenteen would you have gone straight into air B&B until you found a rental.
    Also do you still have your English Bank account? Is it expensive to transfer money back to UK to pay credit card or for mobiles if you keep your UK mobile to start with

    • @ThatJohnstonLife
      @ThatJohnstonLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Caroline. We probably would have used a hotel or Airbnb for sure in the short term. We still have the English accounts and they're registered to the in laws. We use wise to move money between the UK and Australia if we need to. Much better rates than banks. We used 3 in the UK so had a month of using it for free in Australia as we had 3 at home. Cancelled it after that
