When listing the different stat names at 1:40, when Kallie gets to "Speed," the chalk sound being played at the same time she speaks makes it sound like she's saying "Feet". Now I want a competitive format where the size of a Pokemon's feet affects their viability.
This was a great video! simple yet informative and digestible. Keep this up, I really hope it will gain good traction. More people in the non-Pokemon community need to learn about this stuff, and it's quite hard (but rewarding) to get into.
Great video guys. Man that Dragapult in a dream ball is...well dreamy. Why didn't I think of that when I spent all of those hours breeding for my shiny one.
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. - collosioans 1:13-14
thanks for the info and does this still apply? also you can have a pokémon remember any move it had the chance to learn at a poke center but idk if that a news change and if it wasn’t a thing at this time
pretty much the speed stat and anything that raises it: timid, jolly, choice scarf, priority, prankster, speed boost, shell smash, dragon dance, quiver dance are all the entire metagame
3:00 there are 12 nature's that are worth using the ones that deminish defense should be avoided 99% for the time. The neutral nature's are ok sometimes. Useful nature's: Atk: Adamite Brave Special atk: Modest Quite Speed: Jolly Timid Def: Bold Impish Relaxed Special def: Calm Careful Sassy
Is it worth getting a specific type of nature that further enhances the usual weakness for a certain Pokémon species? Should I get one that boosts what it actually excels in?
How does it work when it lowers your level to 50? Does it keep the stats or half them or something (so like if you don’t have much hp will it be even less?)? And how much do defense and hp matter if it’s on an attacker.
how does the stats work with say ranked battles in sword. say I train my pokemon to level 100. but in ranked battles all pokemon are level 50 do they just take whatever your stats are for you level 100 pokemon and cut them in half and that's its level 50 stats or how does that work
Hi very helpful video btw. Attacking first is a very big advantage in Pokemon battles just wanna ask say I have two Pokemons, Same nature, Same Evs, No priority moves. The 1st pokemon has HP31 Atk29 Def31 SpAtk31 SpDef31 Spd31 The 2nd pokemon has HP31 Atk31 Def29 SpAtk31 SpDef31 Spd31 Who Attacks first?
Can someone explain why breeding is so essential, when we can manipulate IVs (through bottle caps), manipulate Nauture (though mints) and manipulate EVs (through berries)- am I missing something?? Seems breeding is completely irrelevant..
To encourage deeper customisation. Most obvious being Egg moves. Some pokemom only learn specific moves via breeding so it is wise to start there. Plus IMO since you may need egg moves anyways it is better to go all the way and get the 5 IVs you want than grind to lv 100. Also, There are some instances where you want one stats IVs to be at a specific value because of certain types of speed control and even due to many moves that deal damage based on different factors will do less because of that stat being at its set base. Not only that, but bottle caps only work on pokemon at level 100 and on top of that, only cap that pokemons ivs to its max. Here are a few examples where If your team revolves around trick room, you would want your pokemons speed IV to be at 0 and most of the time have their nature be hindering in speed since trick room makes slower pokemon go first -Foul play deals damage to the opponent based on how high their attack stat is compared to the user (and stat buffs stack with it) So that is why breeding is vital
No. Base stat just means something along the lines of how it progresses. It has nothing to do with its actual stats. But it scales in comparison. Except Hp which is always higher.
I mean I didnt know nothing about how special training works. I started on diamond and pearl. However, I didn't know jack about the competitive side. I thought all you do is raise and battle your pokemon to make them stronger. Breeding is something I never do in a pokemon game unless I need to get a female version of that pokemon. So much shit just to learn that never appeal to me but there's pokemon that I've trained without this extra stuff that can compete with "competitive pokemon"
@@Herozonex200 Yeah same, I played Pokémon (DPP too) but never felt the need to understand all of this because the game was still fun and somewhat easy with just leveling and knowing basic type advantage. really interesting to finally learn more about all of this though
Not all people who play pokemon bother knowing about them though, because it's quite complicated at first, or they simply just don't care about the competitive battling side. I've been playing the core games since Red and Green/Blue, but I only delved on those concepts on Gen 5 when I tried competitive battling for a short while. Didn't quite like how much IVs and natures matter in min-maxxing stats, because personal preferences (the EV training concept is a great one though). I still prefer playing the game by training my 'mons to unlock their strengths regardless of whatever their nature or IVs/genes are, and not make a ton of 'mons to leave in the pc because their stats aren't optimal or whatever (imo it kinda contradicts the bond/friendship aspect of pokemon training)... pretty much like the anime's (especially Ash's) interpretation/approah of pokemon battling and training
Nice video! It's good to tell people more about competitive pokémon, most people don't know that it even exists.
Not to mention the other factor being that GF (and TPCi) is SO BAD at teaching players their mechanics in the single player
Wow, actually learned something

Damn. This is such a well done video. I might just show this to my friends instead of explaining everything to them.
Robi Hill Thank you!!
You can get berries to lower unwanted EVs now.
Can change the IVs for bottle caps.
And you can change the effects of your nature with mints.
amazing stuff
More on this please, soon!!!
Competitive Pokémon players spending 7 hours grinding the same unit for it to do 3% more damage in a fight:
Really Great video & Informative!
Keep it up & Thank You!
:D
Thanks for this, great stuff and very helpful!
Great synopsis. No one has done something so clean streamlined and informative.
this was really good!
This is sooo helpful, thank you
I DID IT, THANKS PROFESSOR

your explaining so well but its so much to remember
Then you wont enjoy college lol
I've been playing pokemon ever since Black and White was released and I still never knew how Special atk or def worked
Special attack affects attacks that are categorized as Special and regular Attack affects physical moves
thanks for the info and does this still apply? also you can have a pokémon remember any move it had the chance to learn at a poke center but idk if that a news change and if it wasn’t a thing at this time
I've played pokemon since 1996 and I never knew any of this!!

Thank you, this is super helpful
Question: do they only hold tournements for the Nitendo Switch? So basically only for the Sword&Shield and Evee&Pikachu series?
no they hold tournaments in pretty much any gen past 5
Actually VGC started in Gen 4, but Gen 4 VGC is not as well documented as the Gens after that.
Well done explaining
dragapult makes my whole team look bad
Great video!
Great video.

Pokemon is very intimidating :))
lovely video
Pokemon tuning let's gooooo
Love this intro!

first? and please xplain it to me either way if you don`t mind
Oh wow, already knew all this, i came to see how much less damage you take from having high defense and stuff. Really wish you explained that.
same, it was useless
@@frogoontheyogo Right???
So IVs are based on nature, but how do EVs work? I still don't get it? Like how does training it differently alter the stats?
The more pokemon you defeat of a certain EV, the higher that Stat goes up on your pokemon.
And now I know ev training is not eevee training.
lol
What game are they showing in this video???
Sword and Shield
what are some good pokemon for online play?
So what does hyper training do in regards to EV’s and IV’s?
I am not sure what this hyper training thing is but IV's can't be changed. You just gotta breed or hope to get a good IV mon.
Hyper Training gives you a perfect IV in whatever stat you Hyper Train
Umbreon is of course the best of all Pokémon!
That includes anything utilizes the ‘Pikachu face’
It is a good video. But idk why I didn't get a lot of these things
so what happens when a pokemon with an attack stat of 60 uses a move that has, say 40 damage?
There's a mathematical formula to how much damage a move does, just search on the internet 'pokemon damage formula'
Can someone explain why breeding is so essential, when we can manipulate IVs (through bottle caps), manipulate Nauture (though mints) and manipulate EVs (through berries)- am I missing something?? Seems breeding is completely irrelevant..

No. Base stat just means something along the lines of how it progresses. It has nothing to do with its actual stats. But it scales in comparison. Except Hp which is always higher.
So if I can get Lv1 pokemon with a stat of 7 in every spot except HP (obviously lol) it's going to be a psuedo-god? 😆
Numbers are the opposite of abstract tho
Good video but smogon tiers are still better than vgc.
Well shit this whole time I thought blue was good and red was bad
Diablos
Competitive players don't breed. They just pkhex.
TBH I came here for the math and not a general overview.
I use pokehex and edit all stats 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I suppose if you’re new to Pokemon, you wouldn’t know these things, buts it’s crazy to me that some people know nothing about IVs, EVs, Natures etc.

7.8 /10
Too much Dragapult
Not enough, i say, not ENOUGH!!! 👍😝
What
Jesus died the death that we deserved:D
epic
I dont understand this at all. Lol im sorry.
Basically, there are four things that factor into a pokemon's final stats.
First comment!
A little late to the party
Vgc sounds terrible
I thought the blue lettering meant boosted stats this entire time 🥲
