    All your hard work had really paid off. The addition and a (almost) new husband, what an amazing real-life story. My husband has Alzheimer’s disease. I used to chat with your daughter, Mellissa in Florida about reselling. I have not begun, but I really still want to do it. You guys are inspiring and give me hope. Thank you for sharing you amazing adventures.

    Nippon/Nihon means rising sun in Japanese. They called their country "Land of the Rising Sun". In 1920 due to the McKinley Tarrif Act items from there had to be labeled the anglicized: "Japan". LOVE your new intro!

    I agree with what someone else said about the little pewter boxes - they seem to be valuable! My mom has travelled in China before, and she said there is so much beautiful, hand-crafted art, pottery, clothing, etc. especially if you go outside the big cities. A good reminder that there are amazing artisans in China and not just mass production 😊 great finds, Karen, and congratulations on the beautiful extension!

    I love that you are sharing the construction of your addition with us! I believe that part of the definition of truss construction is that they are engineered and built off-site. Otherwise your roof would be built using rafters if constructed on-site. I could be wrong, but I think this is it.

    Truss delivery trucks often come with an articulated “knuckle” boom behind the cab that can extend fairly far, once it unfolds itself and starts to extend.
    Trusses get built elsewhere for speed and control. They can build them fast, on an assembly frame that sets up and aligns the pieces that make up the truss itself. Since an engineer has to approve the design and load capacity they like to do it at a controlled assembly site. It also keeps the workers out of the weather, in a factory controlled space.

    Great video Karen, you found some really nice treasures at the flea market. My ex-husband worked and made trusses on for a place for several years. There is a heavy machine that puts the plates that holds the trusses together and that’s why they have to be made ahead of time. You can’t nail them together on the site of the job they won’t hold together constructively. It’s a heavy steel plate that the machine has to press into the wood..

    Down the rabbit hole I went…..the metal boxes are a total score ! When you said you were taking them I immediately started researching. I found several, priced between $65 and $450. The higher priced ones had very ornate carvings and a lot of stones.
    I love your new intro ! And am so impressed with your builder. So many builders take their time, and often you need to add at least two months to the expected completion date. You are just whipping along so fast !! So happy for you and Roger.

    Trusses are made specifically by a truss company with mathematical engineering, so being done on-site would be a time nightmare. I can't believe the roof decking is up already! Before you know it- it will be ready to decorate! We had a second garage built by mainly 2 guys. Our trusses were also made offsite, but lifted into place by the 2 guys plus a helper! We have an 'attic' on one half of the garage truss system! Not finished, yet, since my hubby passed last Nov and the garage was 'his' project!

    Hi Karen, its good for you to point out about the ivory reselling issue. I had no idea (at the time) and I went to a garage sale and she had all these little eskimo carved items...I think...if I remember so I bought the whole bunch and she wanted about $15 a piece for them so it was like...$120 for al the pieces! I don't think I bought for resale, but once I got into reselling I wanted to sell them LOL. But then I found out and I wasn't sure if it was walrus ivory or bone or? So I still have them. They are nice..cute but I know I probably paid too much.

    You asked why they set them on the ground first. In your case, they had to do it to fully extent the lift boom for the reach to the addition. Fully extended the boom is too long to do the short reach to take them off the truck bed, but by doing it in two steps they can sit them in the front yard long enough to further extend the boom’s reach to get over the roof with them. If they could get closer to the addition with the truck they could have done the lift in one step, without needing the full boom extension.

    • @lavenderclothesline
      @lavenderclothesline  ปีที่แล้ว

    • @brianhenry2385
