I have a few ideas that I'd love to see implemented in the game:
    1. A "Partner" character. One that, when you're high enough in social credit, status, etc, you can hire or they come to you through a randomized backstory. This character would also grow *with* the player character and add that element of "character" to your character. Like, during your time with them, if they themselves get involved in a kidnapping or murder case, the case suddenly become far more personal.
    2. A Betrayal route. Imagine someone from the precinct turning to crime. Something like that. Like, if the social class thing is something like you said, after you get high enough someone gets jealous and betrays the force.
    3. The use of Fire. Not just for warmth in the bins. Burning Buildings would add some urgency to your investigation as a whole. Or outright Arson crimes. IDK how this would impact the game's performance though, but I think that could be fun too.

I'm actually down with #3 the most.
Imagine when a fire is started you hear sirens as soon as it is reported. Fire trucks and ambulances zoom through the city making their presence known (as it is right now the only "government" action is police running to the scene and shutting everything down, really quiet stuff). This is a LOUD event that changes the city as a whole. This would also introduce a fire department of some sort as well (the hospital is built into the city hall which is fine). After the crime has happened you can investigate the rubble for a source of the fire, whether it be a lighter, a note, etc. Default crime stuff happens, and after a week or so the building is rebuilt but there's a chance it could be different from its original style (an apartment could become a hotel for example, however the reconstruction needs to be the same type as to not drastically change population size like stores are replaced with other stores and offices with offices)

If I knew how to mod, the changes I would make to shadows of Doubt are these (in order)
Moving out/in: When you play the same File for too long you start building up evidence for most citizens, meaning that near the end, you can run into issues where you'll go to a new crime scene, find the Killer's print, and you'll already know who it is, have a full file on them, and a key to their apartment. (happened on my last case on a very large city) additionally, while really not imminently important, playing on the same save long enough would theoretically result in all the citizens murdering eachother until there's only you and one other person left in the city. Both of these can be solved by adding a ferry at the edge of the map and letting old NPCs move out, and new NPCs move in. The way I'd do it is by default have a citizens chance of moving out be 0% and increase with the % of their file you have filled out, being superseded by them being involved in an active case (aka, being a murderer) In which case, the game chooses if they're a serial Killer or not, if yes, then their chance to move goes to 0% until the case is solved. and if not, it goes to like 50% each day that the case isn't solved. If they move before you solve the case, it automatically goes cold. Then, completely new generated NPCs fill in the gaps left by the people who moved out.
Money rebalance: The money in the game snowballs super hard, to the point that my preferred way to play the game is to start with 0 starting crows. Not even 1 to use the payphone. Because once you solve 2, even 1 substantial sidequest, you basically have infinite money (excluding things like buying an apartment) You can buy a Camera, AND handcuffs, AND infinite lockpicks, AND whatever else you want. Your most limiting factor is inventory space, not the cost of the things going in your inventory. And then you reinvest those items into solving new cases or sidequests and you never think about money again. So, my proposal is to divide all rewards by like 10, maybe even 100. so rewards aren't 1200 crows, it's 120 or even 12 crows. Then, keep the cheapest items the same, so one sidequest can cover the cost of buying a burger and cola, then balance the rest of the prices accordingly. Make the lockpicking kit prohibitively expensive, so you only buy them if you *really* have the money or *really* need them. Maybe basement apartments should be cheaper, but the 2-5th story ones should be the same, a few thousand Crows, and then penthouse apartments should be more expensive. with a rebalance like this, things like finding diamonds because really really important, you'd consider selling sync upgrades and Sugar Daddy would look *really* appealing, even with the Debuff.
    Lastly,
Suspicion: In the game currently, you can do a lot of questionable things and people are just cool with it. Think stuff like looking under peoples door mats and taking their keys, or going behind the register of a fast food place, or standing in the doorway of someone elses apartment. I think that there should be s system that punishes actions like this. There already is, *kinda* If you trail someone or trespass in a less illegal area (???) there will be consequences, but not everyone immediately pulling a gun on you consequences. Maybe doing stuff like that will cause citizens to watch you, or enforcers to follow you for a short time. That way it encourages players to do it discretely, otherwise you need to lose the cops or walk away until citizens stop watching you.

You know, rather than just making murder archetypes the developers could add a system of - for lack of a better way to call it - "murderer competence".
What I'm getting at is this: most murders statistically are crimes of passion, so an argument escalates to violence then one kills the other for example, these could be the easiest murders to solve because you could immediately determine it was their spouse or friend most of the time; then and there you could solve the case but the murderer would be in hiding and you can try to find them for the extra bonus etcetera.
Then you could have murders between people who are related in some way like the above example but this murder is premeditated so there would be overall less evidence the killer would leave at the crime scene. Making for an investigation with elevated difficulty.
The climax of this difficulty curve could be something like the victim getting shot through his window by a killer with a rifle in another building. Then you would have to actually pay attention to the ballistics on the scene then witness reports of a gunshot in the neighbouring building, then having to locate the vacant apartment or rooftop the killer was even in at the time etcetera. It could be a case of a person who got on the bad side of a big corporation hiding out in your city gets tracked down by a hired hitman, that level of "murderer competence".
Hell, you could add a lot to the game if the 'island city' you're on has an "undercroft" where the homeless or recently immigrated live, good luck finding someone who isn't even in the city registry. You'd have to go to some shady hovel downstairs and pay an information broker for help or something. Wags here has a wonderful idea about having relationships with NPC's, like you can be buddy-cop with a well-meaning enforcer, a perceptive hobo or the chap on the corner. They can do things that are normally a bit drab to do, like tail a suspect or cross reference the government database. Interacting with people is the most interesting part of murder mysteries, hard to pull off in a procedural system but certainly possible.
Imagine how 'fun' it would be if the victim of your latest case was your best buddy and partner, Clive? All the homies loved Clive, a real pillar of the community Clive was, didn't even arrest the scum who did him in, cuffed his legs instead and threw him in the sea, hope Clive can rest well after that, I miss Clive.

I love the kidnapping idea. I can take it further by pointing how just how many steps are needed to arrange a kidnapping. The mastermind behind the crime has to give money to a lackey who then has to buy a safehouse and hire a professional kidnapper. The professional might decide they need their own hired help. The safehouse requires guards and a courier to purchase supplies from the local businesses. To coordinate all this a meeting has to happen at least once which itself has the potential to become a crime scene

The main thing I think holding the game back, at least from an immersion standpoint is how 'player centric' the whole game ends up being. The player is a unique character in the game because they can't do half the things the NPCs do constantly, and gets limited by artificial walls.
While the conversation of making the main character able to shoot a gun has been beaten to death. The game needs to put any amount of thought into middle of the street gunfights, and having most people with a gun on them or some other weapon, which is stupidly unrealistic if the game wants to force the player to act in specific ways.
While guns could be argued as some weird motive of the character you are playing as, detaching the player from the character and destroying that chance of immersion, the point stands that guns shouldn't be nearly as commonplace, and the town security should be taken into account when a crime is being committed by other NPCs, such as mugging, killing and the whole list.
It shouldn't be a case of 'the player broke a window, time for 20 people to jump in and attack them, but those same 20 people ignore a murder in the middle of the road and have no clue who it was'
But that is the only thing the game currently knows. The player is judged unfairly, on a system only they are held accountable to.
Before anything new or special gets added, the game needs to have a lot of basic logic put in place to alleviate how targeted the player can feel, even if the point is 'anyone could be evil'.

    • @gotgunpowder
      @gotgunpowder 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

"While guns could be argued as some weird motive of the character you are playing as, detaching the player from the character and destroying that chance of immersion"
Nonsense. Tons of great games manage to be immersive without making the character you play as have no personality. Characters do not need to be blank slates for games to be immersive.
The inability to use guns exists because most of this game would become trivial if shooting your way through everything was an option. It forces you to make use of the mechanics in clever ways to get around people in your way instead of just shooting them in the face. There already exists a mod that lets you shoot the guns. Play with that mod installed and see how easy the game gets.
"the point stands that guns shouldn't be nearly as commonplace, and the town security should be taken into account when a crime is being committed by other NPCs"
You're really missing the point. The whole idea behind this game is the town you're in ISN'T secure. You live in a dystopia where the "police" don't actually care about solving crimes, hence the need for unregulated PIs like your character. The Enforcers put up job notices in illegal gambling dens, for God's sake. They very much do not care about how proliferate firearm dealers are in the city.
The part about the double standard with how civilians react is valid though. But in fairness any murder taking place in the open would be immediately solved for you when the killer gets beaten down by a mob of vigilantes.

    • @JazzyOfTheHarp
      @JazzyOfTheHarp 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@gotgunpowder I think a mixture of me being unclear and things not being fully understood are part of the complaints there. It also doesn't help that I don't recall how much attention I was paying as I typed the original comment. Either way I structured it pretty poorly for the initial comment.
The character you play as has no issues knocking people out with knives to the back, breaking all their things and handcuffing them for hours at a time, but guns, thats a step too far. That is the disconnect, an invisible line that isn't explained anywhere other than 'the dev said so'. Yes, people can express how the devs have control over their own game, but that doesn't mean I have to like devs telling me what I can and can't do, especially when it comes to a game that presents itself as sandbox.
The game might become trivial for shooting through everything, is under the heavy assumption that the player won't value any other mechanic because guns solve all the issues, when you can't turn in a dead guy, and would be able to be punished for excessive force due to the social credit system. It is a thing many devs are good at when designing games, not just to remove and block the things they don't like, but to make the things they want players to do, to be more engaging in comparison, without limiting those options.
Mods might band-aid an issue but that isn't the marketed product and due to the fact they can hold more risks from third parties and bad actors, shouldn't be the default reply and solution. It is also worth noting that people who go to install the mod to go shoot guns, generally do it with the intent of wanting to in some capacity, shoot people in the game themselves, as oppose to it being default and something people can do on accident if they keep beating someone while they are unconcious or land an unlucky shot to somewhere more vital. That is a type of self-selection bias for claiming who the concept is marketed towards because the people who do, intend to use it; same rules as america really there.
As someone who has worked with game coding before though, I'm not going to make the comment that the developer should just add a setting to enable/disable the feature because then that is a lot of work, developing for what effectively becomes two projects. It isn't that simple a solution, I'm aware.
There are multiple ways to design around an issue, they could make the guns harder to use controls wise and any number of single shot weapons instead of advanced semi automatic snipers, they could make all gun crimes be punished severely, losing social score or otherwise for being found in possession of a firearm, let alone shooting someone possibly putting your score into the negative. There are many ways to discourage a player from neglegent murder, going so far as to remove upgrades when they are knocked out, take their house from them, their social credit or any number of punishments. Not to mention lowering the chance people will want to give out information for a duration and many other solutions.
It doesn't suddenly treat the player as a completely alien entity following different rules, even though it encourages specific types of play compared to others.
The default meet and greet of 'slam the door in someones face when they come to answer' is an example of 'shoot on sight' as a method, the easiest option with little to no punishment is the one people will take often. The issue isn't to remove the feature to knock someone out with a door slam, but instead something like applying a cooldown on front doors when an NPC interacts with it so the player can't slam it while the NPC is 'holding' it, even though it would be a completely valid solution and solve what is otherwise a low effort tactic, but to follow through with the player being a person, meaning the NPCs could choose to spread bad news about the player, getting them mugged more, attacked in the street or losing social score. Suddenly the option to slam the door in someones face, becomes more about alternative methods, instead of what would otherwise be the 'shoot on sight' method. You encourage and discourage specific behaviours, not by removing them entirely, such as removing the ability to knock people out with doors; and instead changing how the game responds to it.
And yes the enforcers are an entire issue in themselves, with them not caring about an ongoing murder in front of them, but then the fact you stepped too close to that body gets you shot for no apparent reason. To some level the game just lacks awareness about anything non-player related. It was only in one of the more recent updates to my memory that they allowed you to get pictures during a murder, as evidence for the person being the killer. Some of these issues will probably just take time and community feedback, on topics the dev hasn't decided to stonewall completely.
The game in general treats the player as an external force. The player can't use guns at all because the dev is saying there is a 'right way' to play, in what would otherwise be a sandbox lifesim. The issue is less about personality for the character, but the disconnect that you deal non-lethal damage for using sharp weapons on people and any number of things.
All in all, while I like the game and have multiple times maxed out long setting games for the social credit track. The immersion I so care about which I claim is lacking, is the fact as I said, that the player is an isolated entity, with rules applying differently to them exclusively for no apparent reason beyond 'the right way to play'.
The crimes would be more interesting if there was clues luring a person to a location, giving you a chance to intercept or any number of things, taking into account how many people are around and a whole load of things; but then the game is in development so it might just need time for that issue. We shall keep seeing for the future of the game.

I really hate the side jobs where the perp has so few leads that help you narrow down your search that you have to find everyone's personal information. Example, I was given an arrest case where the only lead was the suspects fingerprints. But that really only helps you to determine whether or not a suspect in mind is the perp. So what I ended up doing was breaking into every employment office and look through their files for their employees fingerprints hoping I'd trip over the suspect. It didn't work. However what did happen was that all the murders that happened after that were solved in two minutes because I knew who the suspect was because I had their prints on file. the game wasn't fun anymore. There was no challenge, no using my brain anymore to try different leads or avenues to solve the case. So what I want is guaranteed suspect info on side jobs you can follow so you don't end up taking all the fun out of the game shotgun investigating everyone.

    • @thatboywags

One of the things that irks me with the game is that the killers will often continue their regular routine, even once they've obviously been discovered. You would think they would go into hiding somehow, especially once the player comes searching for them. Such a simple detail could complicate cases because then it isn't just enough to figure out who the killer is but also where they would go into hiding.
I actually had such a case where there was a sniping case and I couldn't find the perpetrator at his home. I was concerned that maybe he had went into hiding, but no he was just bugged out and appeared back in the apartment shortly after I left it to look for other leads of his whereabouts.

Whan you're certain you know a suspect or vicim's address or phone number from context clues, but have to find a card or file to get that info just to have it listed is a bit annoying imo. Also a general notes section in your case board, when you observe things about the city or just wanna type something funny. Don't want to have to erase that from case to case. Oh, and also, letting you view archived cases, in a submenu, or maybe even a filing cabinet you can bye for your apartment, that would be fun for roleplaying I think

Imagine that you need to find a person who hired a hitman to kill someone. The hitman is in jail and you need to get the info you can from him before he is shipped out on a prison boat. With this and some knowledge on the victim you connect the dots of who wanted the victim dead. You can top it off by finding a hitman contract in the trash and solving case.
Another one: imagine there is a murder on a boat and you have to investigate the crime scene within a 3 day time period before the boat has to leave. You can connect the dots to a coworker but once the boat leaves the case goes cold until the boat comes back and you arrest the killer. Its like a time crunch that can add more suspense to the game.

One feature that would probably be very difficult to implement but I thought would be cool would be rival detectives. Essentially, there would be multiple detectives in the game just like the player character trying to solve the murder cases. So, it would be a race to see who could get to solve it first and reap the benefits. Could work well with the lore in game of everyone wanted to raise their social class and leave the city to the better place. Plus, I think it would work much better with immersion. I mean, it's kinda odd the player character is the only one really solving these cases, having some others and providing some urgency to solving cases could be a nice change of pace.

I feel like the company jobs should be updated. I understand the offices are highly guarded with the turrets and cameras and sometimes laser cameras. But I want to go into a factory with highly Thief like aspects, I feel like if the game capitalize on it, it could blow up the scale and possibilities and could make it seem like a good place to put in useable guns. My point is I feel like the business verses business style is very toned down. I also feel like they should update how the hotel staff and apartment staff work. I say that because those are people who could have access to rooms and go unnoticed since they can clean up their own murders.

Hey, dude. I have a hypothesis, and I'm sure we watch your videos because of your storytelling. Could you try playing a different kind of game and create a story of your own? I'm confident that you'll likely have a similar or even close number of views as usual. You could try games like No Man's Sky, a strategy game like Total War, or an action game like Ravenfield. What I'm getting at is that it's not about the game but how you create the story for your video. Give it a shot at least once; I believe it will go well. Stay safe, bro.

It's a shame we won't get to see this game shine, its dev team is so small but thats what actually makes it a special game. No big corpos over their heads judging their every move or trying to promote any loot boxes or battle passes. Just a detective trying to get by. If the rights to Shadows Of Doubt do get sold to a major game developer company, the game won't improve the way we want.

What I would love to see is the following:
    1. More different kind of murder cases. Like the body is missing, but the camera footage shows the person dead on the tape and then it suddenly is gone.
    Or a person is kitnapoed
Or a fire devil case where whole evidence is burned away.
Bank roberies (add in banks for other uses)
    2. Relationships are already in the game sort of. But there are very good ways to add in clues that way. Wedding rings for example. Same last names (also works for siblings or an older parent living with their adult child)
    3. Dogs provide a nice way to make the world more alive even. They could guard someone or sonething. Sniff out a murderer or an item the murderer/ kidnaped person has. And the life sim part gives another aspect of providing for your own dog.
Cats are harder to implement, but could be part of smaller "cat rant away" quests and roam the streets of your city.
    4. More ways to customize your own city. What I mean by this is give us the randomiser pools the game pulls from to generate names and make our own. Name people after people you know (that would be very funny), also building, city, street and coop names.
    5. Let us create our own face. I know we don't see ourselfs much, but it would add more individuality to us.
    6. Clothing is also a factor. As a piece of evidence as well as infividuality for a person. Maybe add in some new clothes with patterns as well as clothing shops.
    7. Connect cities via subways. That would be huge! For the devs as well as for us.
    8. Multiplayer could also be a thing. Play together or work against each other to solve a murder.

  • @DasJiggly
    @DasJiggly 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I feel like the game could expand the most when it comes to motives behind the murders. There are always the same ones everytime and they dont impact anything in the investigation but some unimportant dialogue in the end. Add a few more of those, and make them part of an investigation, maybe even one of the optional requirements to solve the case.
Alot of cases feel very easy after some time, but with this element mixed in, every structure so far could have a few alterations and make misleading the player easier. You could for example make the obvious additional fingerprints that appear at the crime scene in the appartment just a friend that visited or something, and the actual killer is the person that was living there too, and you only find out about it when you find a note that explains why they did it at that persons working place instead of hiding the clues at the victims work place.

One thing I'd love to see is Cult related crimes. One of the first things I thought of when I played during a rainy in game day was how much it reminded me of playing Call of Cthulhu just without the Eldritch horror. Like maybe cults are more likely to go after blood type A cause they think it's preferred by their leader/god/patron. Also a library would be nice have it generate a few books and maybe introduce some quests to return overdue books

    • @BlazingImp77151

Ooh, a cult type murder where you have to identify a few different cultists to stop the murders could be interesting (not sure how it would work with the current resolution system). You might find one cultist from finding the killer, only to have another murder happen and find out that they weren't operating alone. He'll, that could happen even without cults, someone operating with one or more others.

    More involvement on the forensics side of the cases could add more immersion to the game by adding an additional level of interaction with the cases, for example;
    1) Collecting blood samples and identifying the blood type at a new medical type building (Lab). This building could also be useful for identifying those who are registered blood donors and perhaps a record of people who given/needed blood (Similar to ledger). Additionally could sell medical supplies
    2) A change to fingerprints, hiding fingerprint type and assigning them at start. Collecting fingerprints and running them through a database or comparing them to specific people to get a match % in order to identify individuals instead of just scan and go
Just my hot take and I enjoy the extra interactivity in games, but I feel added depth to some of the pre-existing systems could help spice some things up!

There are a lot of things I wish the game had.
    1. I wish there was more life sim stuff
    2. Bigger cities and more ways to get around the city, cars, trains, metros
    3. I like the idea of having a partner, someone who helps you with cases, has their own life, I think it could add so much more to your character and their backstory.
    4. This is going to sound very weird, but a love interest, it seems they have some background with the character "Sam" but I would like that to be a more in game thing
    5. Character creation, more in depth. I wouldn't mind seeing my character, and add more of a backstory to them. I think it would help with the roleplay.
    6. And again this is going to be a weird one, but another controllable character. One that isn't a detective, people seem to want to kill in the game, and you being a Detective, that just isn't going to happen. So I think it would be could to have another character you control that you can do all that with, you can use this to create your own story in a way. Basically your own Moriarty. I don't know maybe this is more of a mod thing, where you have a mod that lets you control rest of the population lol...honestly 6 is more so something just for me lol.

A bit late to the discussion but one thing that I would love is a campaign mode, where each case is manually crafted and develop a full story. I might ask a lot here and it also might be antithetical to the procedurally generated aspect, but I really think a campaign, build with the tools the game already offered, would be so great and, with the world they built, have the potential to offer crazy stories

I love your Shadows of Doubt videos! I recently solved my first case. Victim was shot, potential murder weapon was laying around, note teasing me with the name was there too. Strangest thing was:there were only two print typed at the scene, one belonging to the victim, and one to her husband, an arms dealer. The prints from her husband were on the note too, and the note spelled out his name. Everything was leading to him. But, seeing as I was new to the game, at first I figured I’d wait for a second murder, but after re-reviewing all the evidence, I figured it had to be him, and it was. Odd thing was, he stated his motive as being part of a cult, so I suspect it was by chance that the victim was his spouse.

I have encountered the co-worker killer case where the victim's prints are on the business card, not the killer's. Also, I find the side jobs sometimes to be a lot harder than the murder cases, depending on the job. Sometimes you get nothing but a build or hair color and a job description, for example.

Major win for this game would be if fingerprints from friends/acquaintances could appear in crime scenes. Being able to scan for three fingerprints, confirm two of them are the victim and victim's partner, and then use gov database/check employment records to confirm the third fingerprint as the murderer makes the game trivial.
If you do this, and then add murder types till there are about 20 murder types, replay value becomes exponential.

Your thoughts are valid - beyond the fact of this game. Just being a content creator is HARD & exhausting...
Being that the cases are limited makes this so frustrating -- hell I only did 3 and the 3rd one was the same as the 1st.
I love your ideas and it's nice to see the team is going to work on the game.
I strongly believe you're a big enough person that supports this game to have your input valued. I hope someone on the team watches this video and takes from it.
You're right, this game has a lot of potential. I think unfortunately, we will have to wait for the small team to work on it and support them the best we can.
I love the idea of modding, but wouldn't want the modders to feel they need to save this game.
I love the effort and story telling and honestly your voice! Your chill and relaxed approach with dips of small humor make the videos great and I even show them to my friends who haven't (and won't) play this game. Your videos make me want to play the game more, even with all its flaws.
As much as you've stated Shadows of Doubt has made your channel explode (for the better) I think you can expand and try out other detective games.
I don't know if you're on console, but, LA Noire was fun for me (I think we have similar interests) - it's more linear than this game, but I think people would enjoy watching you play those games. I'm sure there's a load of others on PC - and even Alan Wake 2 (which I've been loving) would be cool to see your input and reaction too.
Hell, True Detective is coming back and even you talking about the show would be a fun video (trying to figure out the killer) --- there's a load of other shows (Perry Mason, Mare of Eastown) on HBO that I absolutely love and would think you'd be interested in.
I even think you're creative enough to write your own story.
I hope I didn’t come off as telling you what to do lol I just think your content is 10 fold better than 90% of the related content for your style/genre.
Anyways, I'm sure your audience will support you in anything, I know I will!

But I have a few games that I've been recording lately that I really want to break down into individual story episodes.
Just like how the SoD videos are, I'll craft and narrate a story in whatever game I'm playing and piece it together to hopefully be some sort of cinematic adventure!

Murder cases committed at range, for example with a rifle from a building opposite the crime scene,
Murders committed via poisoning (food), so that the killer doesn't have to interact with the victim and can enter the victims home without the victim being there increasing the time between the killer entering the property and the victims death
murders that involve both a hitman AND a suspect, so you'd have to find the killer and the person that hired them
high profile citizens or hitmen can have their finger prints burnt off preventing that avenue of investigation (quantity based on difficulty)

You know what I would like to see for this game? A subway system that can connect multiple cities together for bigger games or different zones, or implament a sort of chase sequence between you and the killer.
How about a new type of case where there is more than one killer or multiple individual cases overlapping. Someone could throw someone else under the bus to try and get away.
A super rare case, maybe only once per city, where you are actively pinned for it and you can’t utilize police computers or city hall files anymore because the police are looking for you. Only those who you have a good reputation with will actively help you.
An ironman difficulty where you could die by the hands of the killer, and only the killer. This way the police don't just gun you down and it's game over. This would be good for a sort of "last stand" situation.
Since the player can never be a victim, someone who hates you could go after those with high reps with you, or your first crime scene is your own apartment, either you weren't home and they destroyed the place, or you went home, and after a sudden black screen and gunshot you wake up in the hospital.
If the killer knows that you're getting close, they could suddenly kill someone completely unrelated to their pattern and at an inconsistent time, to try and throw you off. This could go well with pinning someone else or overlapping cases.
One off murders where they don't repeat. "I took out who I wanted. I'm not a psychopath, I'm stopping there." Crime scenes do go away when enough time passes, so this would inadvertently have a timer on it.
Building on ideas from other comments you responded to.
A sort of underground with the unregistered, be they hobos or immigrants.
Multiplayer or multiple other detectives, and they could cause their own murders and try to "solve" them to raise their credit score.

I've stopped playing a few months ago, even though I love the concept of this game. To me it felt that despite presenting itself to be a game with a lot of depth, in reality it's very shallow. The last time I played it seemed to be either fingerprints at the apartment or video evidence that would solve every murder case. There's some minor variations on where you might find the finger prints (weapon, business card, door frame), but it's pretty much always the same loop you're going through.
Adding (a lot) more types of murder would certainly help, but I think the game needs additional variables to solve a case. The most obvious one it is missing right now is "motive". I have no idea why that is not part of the game, since in reality this is a major thing to consider. There are some suggestions in the game of it, but it doesn't seem to go far beyond "he didn't want to promote me" and it's not actually part of the resolution form. Currently you get hints that a person was seen at the murder location at 11pm, but why not make those official witness statements you have to collect to place the person at the crime scene. You can find a statement that the murderer bought a weapon, but that piece of evidence isn't part of the resolution form either. So maybe the difficulty setting can include the number of checks you have to cross off to successfully complete a case.

Yeah I agree with everything you said here.
I'd also love to see a more defined motive, as well as more paperwork options to file like you were talking about.
Witness statements would definitely make sense too.

I think this game has great potential and I think you have some good insight on the game. Definitely need more randomness so it doesn’t feel like you are always doing the and case. More themes but also different levels of difficulty like you were saying would definitely help a lot

I have an idea I would love to see implemented in this game:
what if when we raise our social credit high enough and people begin to recognize us on the street, some people get jealous and attempt to break into our house and kill us or something like that and we have to find out who broke in and etc.

I'm late to the party but these are some great ideas! More murder types and being able to change the difficulty on them would be awesome for veteran and new players. From what I've seen of the game I think there would be 2 interesting things.
    1. Factions. The idea of becoming a corpo goon or a crime lord's favorite PI. Kind of like how your social credit increases when you do cases for them specific sorts of people will be more responsive to you. Maybe give you some kind of contacts/resource network you can take advantage of.
    2. Crime variety. While the game's focus is on murder solving, I think there is more to the PI experience that could be explored. Someone in the comments mentioned kidnapping but maybe making it a 'missing person'. Combining it with the above idea, maybe engaging in some corp espionage finding incriminating documents. Or a more classic example the mob boss's daughter goes missing and when you find them turns out they're eloping with their love.

I hope they implement that lore more into the gameplay. Like, for example, make so that the revolutionary group gets in contact with us to not investigate some murders or even assist them in pinning the blame on someone else, or those capitalist cultists recruiting us to make sacrifices for great profits or something. And different endings regarding different paths would also be neat. Not just "Social Credit" route.

I am really anxious about the development of shadows of doubt, to be honest, just because I really care about the game.
In my opinion, it is THE best detective simulation that I have ever encountered, but of course it still feels really raw around some of the edges.
Personally I am hoping for more factors that play into a case rather than just having a business card or a toy car dropped at the crime scene with the finger print, and if it's not there for some reason, you're completely lost on the case until the murderer strikes again and maybe then the hint will drop.
What I'm talking about is: more consistent results on cameras, more evidence relating to the actions of the murderer and/or victim within the last 24-48 hours prior to the murder (like "did they change their schedule? was there anything suspicious going on? did their significant other notice anything?" etc. etc.).
I think improving the quality of evidence on cases (maybe even related to the difficulty like you suggested) is the most important aspect of providing longevity to the game.
So far, we've got an amazing experience for 20-50 hours, which is great for a game in development, but if they're intrested in long term success, that's the aspect they've gotta crack in my opinion.

All in all, i agree, there is soooooo much they could add. I reall mean this: this game has all the potential to be just like minecraft with its additions and player driven content, and frankly if they do go that route i wish them ALL the success in the world, god knows the game market is primed for anything to come around and give players a golden game.

Random idea for a video, when me and my friend first got this game, we walked out and found a littered bottle of beer on the floor, knowing we had a fingerprint scanner we had the idea that surely we must be able to solve the crime of who littered that bottle, as was tutorial we didnt proceed with the idea but maybe trying to solve a random crime / misdemeanor in the city that has nothing to do with murder lol

    • @thatboywags
      @thatboywags  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      ahhh... the mystery litter..
a crime that has eluded me forever.
The problem is there are so many random people who just walk by and drop things, the percentage of people who litter in SoD is like 99.9%. So you're basically choosing to track down a complete random person, which is a huge headache.
But believe me.. Ive thought about it.

i would love to check alibies, where a person were a specific time and date, etc.
Threaten a person who does not give info (could end up in a fight ofc).
Also i get robbed a couple of times a day in my save, and if i fight the robber i get 2,3,4,5 och even 6 people with knives hunting me wtf.
And even 12:00 mid day its pitch black outside.
Also as you said, missing person - could be either kidnapping or a dead person (at work / apartment / other location)

I think a mafia and gangs update would be interesting ie the mafia or gangs could hire you in order to investigate stuff
Maybe they would ask you to find a rival gangs drug production site
Maybe they’ll want you to steal stuff
Maybe they’ll ask you to gain dirt so they can blackmail a person
A detective office with a secretary would be cool
Your detective could gain prestige with certain gangs and in return rewards and moneh
While helping one gang could anger another leading to potential conflicts
Maybe when you get high enough social credits the cops will just let you into crime scenes
They could potentially add police investigators that have a chance of solving a crime without your involvement

Remove your access to a continual growing database of fingerprints (especially via the city hall computer), (could be justified with a periodic reset of your access to that database, wiping all of your saved data on prints, maybe because the police don't like competition and want to monopolize, etc)
Encourage the player to buy their own personal drives/apps on their Home PC (encourage to buy property) but its more limited, maybe only within the circumstances of a singular case or just number of people like a maximum of 100 entries.
Generally just more apps for the PCs, social media and more interaction there. Clubs, and club meetings I think are implemented but I've found them to be essentially useless to a case. Maybe we could organize a club meeting, or post an ad in the paper, and you could get cryptic calls or maybe the killer would show up. Plus the killer revisiting the crime scene, etc.
Sketches, would be fun too. Or tip lines, etc.

I think that a linear story would be nice, this could make it so that there is more of a motive behind crimes. Of course sandbox mode would also be left in. One other suggestion is something more crimes such as theft. I think the devs are going in the right direction with the cheats and liars update.

Its simple, add more murder arcs, then build into the "editor" a murder builder so people could add their own murders to like steam workshop or something, that way there would never need to be a limit also it would take a load off the developer, give the players the tools to build murders.

Would be nice to have other crime types to investigate like organized crime (drug trafficking, usury, robbery, extortion).
In general, more background to histories is needed to achieve this.
Also murders motivations, could be to claim inheritance, some kind of revenge, accidental killing, jealousy.
A lot more background is needed to make this game awesome. I hope this could be possible

i think it would be awesome to being able to buy a buisness and then imagine, you are an owner of an diner and an coworker dies that you hired and knew very well and know you must take revenge on culprit and if its another coworker you might find out that the next one he is coming for is YOU the owner since you decilined his bonus or smth and maybe you can like change their ranks and positions as well or imagine being an buisness owner going home to find your coworker in YOUR home with a weapon and understanding he is here to kill you, you prevent this at your house (might need to take a mop after this one)
