I bought a Volvo 240 saloon for £200 and it lasted 15 years with no issues..best Volvo car ever made.

The 240 is the classic Volvo, and they are proven cars that are safe and reliable. Yes, it's a box with rear wheel drive, but it works. It has a timeless design.

I had a 1981 240 DL as my first car, then got a 1985 240 GL after high school. I love all Volvos! Recently i have had two 2013 Volvo S60s and now have a 2018 Volvo S90. My father bought a new 1989 Volvo 740 GL, then got a V70, and now has a 2013 V60. We are a Volvo family!!!!

I saw a early 90's 240 on the road yesterday and it struck me how normal it looked. It's hard to believe a 50 year old design can still be seen on the road and the newest examples are 30 years old and don't look out of place on the road. I think back to the early 70's and if you saw a 1948 vehicle on the road, it seemed out of place and a relic.

I had a 245 DL. It had burnt valves with low pressure on 2 cylinders, a cracked head, wonky steady bearing, loose struts and a fire-prone console. When the shifter for the auto was moved, switches would arc and the phenolic pie shaped switch substrate for the auto shifter got burnt, conductive and heated up until it burned. The 245 was pictured inside the front cover of a book on lemon cars of the 1970s. I hated it so much that used to thump it when I got in. Then I read Shibumi, and found that Nicholai Hel did the same with his Volvo. And thus began the tradition of Volvo thumping.

I should've bothered; to look it up in the New York Times obituaries, when John Houseman died/passed away. I'll never forget the actor when he played; in the 7 part ABC reality TV movie called, 'The Winds of War.' It's based on a World War 2 novel, written by Herman Wouk.📺🖥📺 🎥🎦🎬🎞📽🎟🎥🚻

Not only a great actor; apparently he had a sense of humor, as witnessed in "Naked Gun" with Leslie Nielsen when he played a totally unflappable driving instructor. If you haven't seen it, his deadpan delivery as his driver's ed Corsica is under attack is hysterical!
