The IKEA guy should have kept on driving his 240. It's still safer than some cars today.

I did in 2002. The 1990 240 GLT was the only Volvo I could afford on the dealership's lot and am still driving it today !

These cars were deemed useless in Oz back in the day. Too small, to slow and a major problem for parts in outback zones. They are an ideal city car.
