The 57 looks so much cooler with the wind screen. I just now ordered that.

To me, SM57 with the Shure pop filter sounds better (way better) than Shure SM7B and EV RE20 for vocals/podcast. I had RE20 but got rid of it, and it wasn't because of its price. I'd also recommend Beta 57A or sE V7 for vocals/podcast if dynamic mics are what you want for your recording environment. Thanks for sharing.

The SM57 grill comes off, you just have to peel the sticker off and then align & release the inner circlip with a small screwdriver. The SM58 screws off on the fly to replace a damaged or worn head screen. Each mic is designed to be refurbished for the head windscreen & foam inside of it. Curious as to why Shure designed the SM57 similarly to the SM58 for ease of repair/replacement ?

Thanks for the video! I was leaning towards the sm57. I want a live vocal mic to go into a PA so I can sing over my loud amps and also maybe a mic I can use to mic amps / other instruments. Subscribed and I'll check out your other videos.

Should I use Sm57 for Recording vocals for songs

Shure you can, but as it doesn't have that windscreen on top that the 58 has, it's extremely susceptible to plosives, so a pop filter or an external windscreen is absolutely essential.
Having said that, if you're planning on recording mostly vocals, I'd strongly suggest going for a condenser mic a bit more expensive.
Rode Nt1, Rode Nt1-a, or AudoTechnica At2035, are three 200-300 bucks great options that come to mind.

It is a little harder to get a professional vocal sound out of a 57 but you can with a pop filter, proper distance and the right mixing skills. Use multiband compression around the 280 - 400 hz area and a high shelf above 7k.
      Don't forget to use a De-Esser and a De-plosive.
Also use some harmonic distortion and a treble exciter like a Maag EQ, there is a freeware version called Luftikus, boost it around the 20k or even 40k area, which despite being inaudible it lifts your listenable high end in a very smooth way.
I've done this and got it sounding pretty close to a condenser mic.

That is not the proper way of using microphones.
The sample should be more realistic base on how the microphone is being used .

the only difference is some foam in the grill to reduce the pop sounds on the 58. that's why you use the 57 for instruments and the 58 for vocals.
