What about the biggest issue? The owners are doing this as a side gig while playing firemen. 1.5 mil, 24 employees, no systems, and they're trying to run this as absentee owners

That "consultant" looks and sounds like a waste of tax money. Dude is texting during a meeting where Mike is handing them golden information. Then saying the crew can't understand a simple P/L and showing off a degree as an accomplishment when he hasn't built anything himself.

Yeah he was a perfect example of degrees don’t mean anything than just a piece of paper if you can’t produce much. Mike tried to cover for him with the part of he is not getting paid but that is a waste of space and time for consultant being there. Lot of promotion for Mirror Lake in this video that they could have kept out. Love Mike but feels like this one they took in one ear and it went out the other.

At 24 employees they should be at way more revenue than that . And we don’t even work year round , mostly just April thru end of September or so with a little snow work in the winter which the last 2 years we haven’t done

@@dylanstevely1443 comparing a lawn maintenance company and tree business is comparing apples to oranges. Your revenue per job and revenue per action item are astronomically higher compared to lawn Maintenance. I mean even if you charged 500 per tree which would be cheap you would break 3,000 on 6 trees at one site. That will never happen in lawn maintenance. The reason why: tree cutting is much more skilled and dangerous

Mike and Team, Just want to say that this is some of your best content. The information you are putting out for small business owners is invaluable. You are an extremely effective communicator and extremely charismatic. Its fascinating watching these an learning along the way how to eliminate waste from our businesses. I genuinely believe there is more to be learnt here than there is in a lot of business majors at third level. Well done, keep up the great work. Hope to see you working with a business in the Chicago area soon!

Wow, they only have $15,000 in cash?! They should have $150,000 in cash minimum and I would recommend for a 1.9 Million business to have $250,000 cash and an equal amount in line of credit.
Also, they only need ONE good sales person and their pay should be MOSTLY commission derived.
Good employees work hard for BONUSES not an HOURLY RATE.

This business model drives me nuts - Big fancy office, nice trucks, lots of chiefs with polo shirts yet the equipment looks un-maintained, the guys are getting paid the absolute minimum by industry standards, and the "chiefs" complain about guys not wanting to show up.
This is the old school mentality, heavy overhead, and slave labor. The new model is low overhead and pay your guys $20-$35 per hour, they are the most essential part of the business yet the most neglected.

He's been very open on how he established his business, he's talks all the time about when he has had to raise the rates. In this video he talks about how a similar sized location he operates charges $80 an hour. What it sounds like is in your area the Augusta location is attempting growth, by charging a low margin for a service to encourage growth. I'd imagine he may do a rate adjustment in a couple months to weed out the bad customers and also achieve his normal hourly rate. Pretty common and sound business practice in my opinion. I'd say that he is very qualified to be helping and giving business advice.

I know the Mirror Lake customer and think they propped up them to much. Definitely need a switch to residential customers more for better profits. Commercial is great if they know how to work the relationships and budgets of HOA boards like Mirror Lake. Warehouse’s in West Ga probably will be bottom dollar clients and might be good to drop if losing profit.
My opinion drop the consultant, as it’s a waste of time, which yes is wasting money even not paying for his time. I also think he would have negative influence after Mike left. To many degrees and my opinion archaic way of thinking on business. His input was not even of value add to the video.
Thankful they serve as FF’s but feel bad since they don’t get paid well enough for that job.

the reason businesses dont like to share their numbers with their employees is because they dont want them to see whats happening. they dont like telling someone "hey you busted your butt for us, but your making less than bill who sits around all day and does nothing" or worse "hey i know im the owner and i dont do anything, but im making 20x more than you and your doing all the work." that is what they are hiding. they are ashamed.

$60 an hour? I'm a small operation of two people and I charge $75 per man per hour. This is crazy.

The owners need to hire someone to run the day to day, and when the owner are able to work, the need to have fix work and what I means work they can Clearing of land mulching hedge and tree work. each owner takes one worker and do those types of jobs. You know when they are off form the fire department so you schedule those bigger job and then and train some of those employee's to do and take pride in those jobs when the owners are not there. Great Video

1.8 million business and there’s 50K in the bank. Something is way off. 🧐 We have 3 employees at my company and we have more $ than that in the balance.

“Some people don’t work for money, they work for vacation or retirement” that dude with all those degrees is delusional. And I love the way it was edited right after the workers saying money definitely matters.

The consultant Todd is a pure bluffer. There is no way this business would be in this position if you had a competent advisor on board. Like not raising prices in years, basic stuff.
