      @@TheRealMaturecheese perhaps but European robins in Britain are known to show little fear of humans here because we feed them and they know we aren’t dangerous here (unlike in continental Europe where people shoot and trap them for sport). Must have flown into a window, poor thing. Here in North America our robins, really a variety of thrush, are similarly bold & friendly, like the true British robins. In Canada we adore them, as they are harbingers of Spring after our long, harsh Winters. 🌷

    • @NoBaconForYou
      @NoBaconForYou ปีที่แล้ว +73

      I think it's because they are good at running. Other little birds hop around and are awkward on the ground, but robins have this tiny and adorable gait where they walk and run one step at a time, so they're quite agile on the ground.
      They also seem fairly intelligent.
      Idk I just love robins. They lean forward like tiny little dinosaurs whenever they run.

    • @theotheseaeagle
      @theotheseaeagle ปีที่แล้ว +47

      @@NoBaconForYou not necessarily, the reason robins are so tame (at least in Britain) is because they associate humans with food. Often they will sit around when somebody is gardening to pick up any earthworms they dig up. This is not the case on continental Europe as people in continental europe kill robins for sport, so they have learnt to be wary of humans. Unlike in Britain where the killing of small songbirds is not practiced.

    • @kylesanders3502
      @kylesanders3502 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      They are called Gardener’s Friend for a reason. They know no matter what we are doing in the garden, there will be a treat. Robins also know the majority of humans won’t harm them or indeed eat them! They do have predators of course and I bet they are confused as to why we, so caring in the face of it, allow a cat to come take over our home and we become their staff! 😂😂😂 Basically nurturing an animal that would eat them!

      I share the same opinion. Most of the people are commenting that he is brave and happy, but to me it seems that he is sick and he thinks that will soon die. He does not care about anything. Normal wild bird would flee.

      He isn't sick, just brave. The eye closing was a happy, relaxed Robin. If both eyes were weary, then it's sick. That's a brave bird who just wanted to meet someone new

      @ trust me, robins will gain trust with you after a while if you act calm around them and dont walk near them when they first arrive on the scene. Ive one in my back garden that comes into my shed and lands on the vice when im working on stuff. Only reason she does that is because it started off with her just being in the garden and observing stuff. Then she started to come into the shed for a few seconds, then a few minutes, and now for around an hour at a time some days. I have a little bowl i put bird seed into. She'll peck away at that while im working away on engines and stuff, merely feet and sometimes within an inch or 2 of me. She hasnt let me pet her yet but you never know, that day may be coming round soon

    I want to think this Robin is just super tame but I actually think it could be slightly ill, or stunned.
    I know Robins can be tamed but they are also naturally weary just like all birds, this Robin let's you just walk up to him, he let's you stroke him most birds don't like that and also the way he closes his eyes doesn't mean he likes it, it could be a sign that he is weak, stunned or in shock.
    Its a lovely bird and I hope he was okay after .

    I love how the petting is getting gradually more invasive ❤!
    First, a small tap, then a longer sweep from one side, then moving between left and right, the his belly, then picked him up😂

    in scotland we have a woodland walk by a river called rogie falls, in the carpark one year i put bread flakes on the palm of my hand and held it flat, within minutes i had wild chaffinch come down and sit on my hand taking the bread, there was only 3 of them but i felt really honoured just to have them sit on my hand, it was a great moment for me

    Birds don't really have a "tradition" of social grooming for the most part. Hence they just kinda all have the same response- hunker down and squint when you pet them, which is kind of adorable.
