- Repairing the leaky port side chain plate on my 2010 Precision 18. The repair required 2-part marine epoxy to resize the holes and 3M 4200 sealant to bed the hardware down.

Nice job!!! Really appreciate the tutorials, they have helped a lot with my own p-18 repairs.
Thanks for video i will be resetting lifeline stansions after this season i just assumed the core was wood ido like the simplicity of butyl ,i use it for everything idid use 4200 when i replaced my swing keel its easy to get it everywhere,? thanks again for the post
chances are they all on verge of leaking after 12 years it font matter what is used to seal the fitting its just a preference as to how often you want to reseal things, never had to reseal any i used butyl on but have resealed most were i used a soft elasticated sealer outa a tube tried lots of different makes
Great job, are you wondering how the starboard side was drilled?😀
I am…but it looks good and isn’t leaking. I talked to Bill at Precision and he said the elongated holes were definitely not how it was supposed to be done. Hopefully it’s just the one side. I’ll find out for sure…one day.
Hey Dave, nice repair tutorial. Question, how do you know how hard to 'torque' the fitting down without over compressing the deck? Tnx.
Hmmm. I hadn’t really thought about that. I just tightened till it felt right. But, you make a good point. If not tight enough, then any movement or flexing could break the bead of the sealant. Too tight could compress the deck and maybe crack the fiberglass. The good news is that unless the chain plate snaps in half…it’s ain’t going anywhere. The backing is quite strong.
