  • The Bose L1 Pro 16 was a massive disappointment, and I expose something no-one else has mentioned in reviews that you should consider before buying this unit.

    I tried a Pro 16 at home and had similar concerns over the stability, although I was willing to overlook that because I’m disabled and need easy setup… I heard no whistle, but decided I wanted/needed stereo sound. I took it back and checked out a pair of Pro 8s, these seemed much more stable and sounded great as a stereo pair, so I bought them. No regrets, they’re nice and light, easy to carry and set up and they have filled every venue with decent sound so far. I’ve had plenty of positive comments on the sound… oh and no whistles either. I’m glad I returned the Pro 16 for the pair of Pro 8s

    I have a L1 Pro 16 and have not been slightly concerned about it toppling over. Perhaps if you had one in the video instead of only talking about it we could see more what your concerns are. I had a L1S with a B2 and yes it does have a different connector with a metal insert but to be honest of all the times I have used the Pro 16 I had never even considered the issues you brought up. I will keep you informed if it falls over and hits someone on the head :-)

      I didn't have it in the video because the day I got it (and returned it immediately0 I I didn't have time to do a video, although obviously it would have been ideal to have it in. I gig 3/2 times a week and have done for over 20 years in all different levels, venues, countries and so on, and there was just no way I would trust it. There were also the issue with the hiss to think on. I do hope you have success with yours though :)

      @keithgrahammusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dr.BGuitar Hi. Thanks for the reply. I didn't think the hiss was any worse than my first Bose L1S. But now that you mention it I will probably fixate on it :-) To be fair I usually play blues music or music that doesn't have people jumping up and down too close to the speaker so I haven't seen any stability issues. When you push it, it certainly wobbles but my solution to that is to not push it :-) As I said in my original post before I watched your video I hadn't even considered and issues with them. If anyone is looking to buy I would test it first, obviously, but I would still highly recommend it.

    I saw an L1 Pro 16 set up at a local music store and couldn't believe how wobbly and cheap feeling it was. It was embarrassing. What was Bose thinking? Even their recently discontinued L1 Compact was physically built a lot better.

      I honestly don't know! What I do know is that I have had quite a bit of hate and trolling for this video; it's why I haven't recorded anything for a little while. These Bose fanboys are hardcore, which unless you are the CEO with performance linked bonuses or a stockholder after dividends I find completely bizzare :)

    • @patientzerobeat
      @patientzerobeat ปีที่แล้ว

      Even the employees at the music store agreed with your/my assessment. They do sound VERY good though. I have been using 2 x L1 Pro8 for a year [for DJ stuff] which also sound great (and suffer less from the poor column support because the tweeter section is half the weight/height), but when moving to a bigger venue Pro8 was a little too quiet so the Pro16 was a no-brainer upgrade..... until I saw one in person. I didn't notice a high-pitch whine though, but I'll have to listen again more closely. There's loudish air conditioning in the space we're in so THAT'S the steady-state sound I'm having to deal with now!

      Yikes! Good luck with the upgrade, whichever way you decide to go :)

    When i had the same observation about a year ago, Ive decided to just keep my L1 1S, much better in terms of built and sturdiness. Yes, it doesn't have a Bluetooth connection, but my S1 Pro will do that on the side. L1 pro16 and pro 8 are completely a NO for me.

    Thanks for sharing the video. I am a bit confused as I am following some professional DJ GIG log using these line array and never mentionned any of these problem (not mean there's no problem, mean that after a years of using them every week at least it's working perfectly for
    As Opaz, you need to know that every line array is a failure for him. He destroy also the Bose L1 Pro 32 with Sub 2 units. I beg you to try them and come back with a bad review ( there's no issues for the plastic like the Pro 16).
    Well known DJ Site like Cross Fader or Cleveland Terry have very good review for them. thanks again

      Hi, I am not sure how they can have been using the pro series for years when it has not been out very long? I am not commenting on the pro 32, but the price is completely out of reach for most of the pro performers I know; you would switch to a far louder and stereo system for the price of the 32 with sub and without sub it is pointless. Thanks for watching though :)

      @@Dr.BGuitar Thanks so much for the answer, I said A year not for years as I know it's been released for I think 13 months or less. In the first place as a beginner DJ I started to follow DJ Log Wedding and party and it's after few times that I discover the L1 Pro 16 and After the 32. Here in Canada it's still impossible to order them because it's backorder ( for more than 8 months now) that's why I go everywhere I can to have some info with people that using them everyweek in a professional way. I am also with a group on Facebook to add more info about these product to make sure if it's ok so far because like you say it's a hell of investment. If you see this pro DJ production th-cam.com/channels/c-mcdNMCXZQaGTpXjU2ZIw.html
      He put so far more than 20 gig Log of the party using them all the time (16) (the last years) it's seems to work for him too. So can you sugest me a product that will do the jobs for a lot less $$ comparing to the L1PRo16 or L1 pro32 ? thanks again for the time you take to answering me in advance !

      Bose has made a line of speakers called "L1" for almost 20 years now, all with different extra numbers/letters to denote the specific model. The L1 Pro series (8, 16 and 32) were only released around 1.5 years ago, so perhaps it is a previous L1 model that "after a years of using them every week at least it's working perfectly". This new "Pro" series definitely doesn't have the same build quality as any previous L1 model. It's almost like the CEO of Bose said "what if we really cheaped out on the build quality, but called then "Pro" - do you think this would compensate?" and all the minions just say "Uh, yes boss.".

  • @kennethstammers5801
    @kennethstammers5801 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would like to have seen a comparison of the competition in real time ( see how this one wobbles compared to this one or these connectors are more secure than these ) but even then it is in my experience impossible to compare sound quality other than having the system right in front of you sooooooo I went to a reputable music store and they were happy to demo several different makes and to honest the Bose L1 pro 8 ( for me ! ) was superb and I have had no problems. Have I a criticism ( yes two in fact ) , the sub 1 bass cannot be turned down enough for delicate music and when using reverb it is not possible to connect a reverb pedal which is a really nifty gadget negating the need to fumble with the volume setting control ( not the end of the world as I use very little reverb and the bass is kinda manageable, these issues are remedied by connecting a mixer but defeats the object of less clutter ! . Love my bose !

    I was ready to splurge money on an L1 Pro 16 with T8S Tonematch mixer. I demoed the 16 Pro and was blown away by the sound quality of the wide dispersion. I was however very disappointed with the overall build quality of the unit, especially the plasticy crap spacer and the wobbly speaker array! For almost AUD $4000 and you're still only running a wide dispersion mono system, I found the cheap arse build quality to be completely unacceptable. I'm now the very happy owner of a pair of Evolve 30Ms, that not only sound great with their EV sound signature, they're built way better, don't require me to sell a body part to buy an expensive proprietary external mixer just to get more inputs, fx, dynamics and eq and the Evolves IMHO look much better on the eye especially in white! The speaker poles are made of metal and I have multiple mixer inputs even using just one speaker! I also saved myself a few hundred dollars in the process and can also run a stereo system with slightly less sound dispersion. Bose have to pull their head out of their arse and realise that they're no longer the only kid in town when it comes to portable column array PA systems and that there's plenty of completion out there from the JBL PRX ONE, Eon One Mark 2, EV Evolve 30M and 50M, RCF Jmix8 etc etc.

      It's really sad to see. I love my Bose l1 1s system, but even there the limitations mean that if I hadn't got it at a stupidly low price including the T4S I would have gone with the EV. It sometimes seems like great brands deliberately make decisions that are going to destroy them in the marketplace (Gibsons insistence on those awful autotuners on their Les Pauls is another). Glad you got your system sorted. When mine needs replacing it will be with either 2 x EV 30 or whatever is out at that time from them.

    I find this to be a helpful critique, but I find the idea of the top speaker toppling over and hurting somebody to be absolutely ridiculous. It hardly weighs anything LOL if you're playing for toddlers, I guess I could see your point.
    Otherwise, I just played my first cake with it and I'm totally blown away. I'm going to have to put it through its paces because I am noticing some rattling which would point to the connectors I think. I saw some other videos which address it, it's a pity that I'm going to have to modify the unit after my first time of using it, but I'll have to make a decision as to whether or not this is the right thing for you. So far I just played a massive outdoor gig solo and it kicked ass. We will see.

      I find the idea that some people are so blinded by BOSE obsession that they have to try and defend the indefensible on other peoples youtube channels absolutely ridiculous! Not at all sure why you would find the idea of it dropping onto a toddler funny! Feel free to stick to the official BOSE videos in future 👌

      I was about to purchase the smaller Bose L1 pro8. Your video put me right off. And no you will be perfectly fine with toddlers, it is fully grown drunken adults that will cause it to topple over. As said in the video it looks like they never consulted real gigging musicians. Just by looking at it the bass unit is so slim and the column so tall. Glad their engineers were not involved in the making of double decker buses.

      I was just in PMT store and tested this side by side with the ev evolve 30. After seeing this video I was convinced not to get the Bose but rather get an EV evolve 30.
      Tested the evolve 30, evolve 50 and the Bose side by side.... The evolve 50 kicks ass but way too big and heavy for me. The evolve 30 had no bass what so ever so useless for my gigs. The Bose L1 pro 8…...........Jesus Christ..what a sound. I honestly was not prepared for this...
      Now the question is have the issues been resolved? I am totally torn as the sound I heard says I need one. What a dilemma.

      I purchased the L1 Pro8 yesterday and when seated right it feels fine. There is a slight wobble if using the plastic extension pole but only when I try to move it with my hands. Also the unit is dead quiet. It is loud and has a punchy bass. Overall very happy but yes Bose could have done a better job with how the extension pole fits together. Food for thought for future versions.
