  • Ron takes a step back into the cold war era to visit a 1960 Atlas E missile silo in Wyoming that is for sale to determine if it would make a good community prepper site for up to 500 people from the Denver area. Interested parties can contact the owner at kolby57@hotmail.com.

    That access to the basement is the coolest part!! I would cover the blast door entrance with dirt that contoured to the hill itself. And then, use a heavy duty bullet proof gun safe as the pantry door and another inside the pantry to access the basement. So even if they make it past the first one, you have a redundancy. No way anyone would get through one of the heaviest gun safe door money can buy. I wouldn't even make the house fancy looking. Just kept up nice and set up inside the house part with average furniture and everything so there would be no give away that there is something underground. Just so your guests wouldn't know about it unless you told them. Something like this would be millions and millions of dollars to construct. Such an amazing place! Special thanks to the home owner and a massive thanks for sharing this Ron!

    The humidity would have been taken care of by the sites environmental equipment during the operations of the site.
    The cans of food there now as seen could have been better protected from the moisture if the current owners installed a de- humidifier where they stored that food.
    I'm positive it would all most likely be edible if opened now. You'd just need to clean the outer contamination off of them.

Basically large steel boxes but you could put a large drilling rig on top of them. You can look them up just by Googling “Cellar Tech”. We got bought by a big company and I got out of there. With the right engineering I’m sure you could galvanize your bunkers as well. We were very good at it.

    I went to school in one of these in Kansas, I was under the impression the front silo door was filled with lead, the one at my old school is welded open and there's just a roll up door there, never liked school but the history of that place is pretty awesome, I always enjoyed walking around the original silo, have always loved military history since forever and it just fascinated me, the layout of the silo and the short culvert and long sloped culvert is exactly the same (the school has obviously had some changes such as doors and stuff), although the school has a lot more to it than that place that's original cold war Era, I don't think I've seen the whole thing and honestly feel like some may even be permanently blocked off, not sure, but it's pretty cool nonetheless

    was thinking about the ruskies frantically taking notes and screen shots right about now, but i then remembers the tv show called 'the americans' & if that's anything to go by i bet russian spies were shown around the silos on the same day they went live. if you've not seen the show i can tell you that its well worth a watch

    • @danielch6662

      There's no need. Uniformed Soviet soldiers already visited all these silos in person, and US troops did the same with Soviet silos. You know, inspection.

    As long as the tops aren't popped up it's still good. Should build some roller shelves to keep the oldest cans being eaten first and the newest cans being stocked from behind. It will give a 2 layer per can or up to 4. If it's a front fill than have a bar across to kep anyone from picking the new cans.

    sweet video, thanks. I have a relative that was a sentry at a missile base on the east coast back in that time frame, they also used guard dogs on patrol, if any one was caught inside the perimeter fence without the password, their orders were to shoot on sight. also, steve1989mre would have no problem with those food cans

  • @southtexasprepper1837
    @southtexasprepper1837 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The canned food that was stored there will have to be thrown away. Ordinary canned food is good for 2 to 5 years. If the can(s) get bloated and/or have rust on them, it's advisable to throw them away.

    Problem with these type of bunkers are that they were designed to withstand a hit - they weren't designed to prevent a large group of people from gaining access. So the purpose of the bunker has changed from its original purpose. Now, people want bunkers to live in and KEEP PEOPLE from gaining entry. A lot would have to be done in order to change the purpose of this bunker. It's a great starting point - but I think a half dozen people with some tools and ingenuity would be able to enter it sooner or later.

    The facility needs some type of central A/C just for dehumidification. A drier environment might help the place feel warmer and prevent rust. I wish I had a can of Dinty Moore right now. I also noticed the entry 40 ton door retaining walls showed signs of spalling. Those walls are well on the way to failure...sometime...unless they are repaired now.

    I can tell you this even today there are sensor cables buried in the ground that pick up footsteps and other traffic.
    And furthermore, they are still active and cannot be turned off.
