So thank you Engelbert Humperdinck for giving me a way to carry a piece of her with me, even in the places I least expect to find one. :)
Timing is everything in life. I could have shared this song with you years ago and you might not have liked it as much as you do right now. Share this song with one of your friend's who've never heard this song before. Chances are their reaction is just going to be, "meh". But inside your head you'll be like, "Wtf? does this guy not have a soul or something? lol" A lot of people sleep on gems, for this very reason. You can literally serve them it on a silver platter and it won't hit them the way it's supposed to, until the timing of life is right.
I love it when old songs are re-popularized to younger generations. I'm getting a bit long in the tooth myself but this song was way before my time. Glad Disney chose it.

My late father was a huge fan of Engelbert. Everytime I hear this song my eyes are filled with tears. RIP Dad. Love you always until its my last waltz. ❤
i'm a 13 year old from britain and this music just makes me feel in some way ive never heard before. Ive listened to all the classics, hank williams, frank sinatra, ray charles but arguably non of their music beats this one.
oh? do you have dissociative identity disorder and serve under an egyptian moon god by beating up bad guys at night wearing a sacred ceremonial healing suit?
I love how the melody and presentation are anthemic, confident, and clear but the topic is sadness and heartbreak. Makes me feel like someone could just gladly shout out "I'm depressed!" or something. This is how a real Chad handles sadness
This song reminds me of my father. He was born in the 30s and lived the best life between Middle East and Europe. I remember every story he told me when I was a kid. I feel so guilty every day for not going to his Funeral.
I knew I somehow recognized this song when I heard it on Moon Knight. It took a while but it finally hit me: this was my Grandpa's favorite song. I heard it probably a hundred times while he was doing yard work, working on his car, and cleaning his guns. I miss that man so much, thanks for reminding me of him.
This is such a beautiful song and my Dad would play it a lot on road trips. He passed away a few weeks ago and hearing this makes me smile and reminisce of happy times with Dad. Now it's part of my road trip mix tape.
I think we all like this song not just because it's good, but because of how well it fits in with Moon Knight, not only with the protagonist(s) emotional state but with the mood. This song threads the needle between uplifting and depressing. It teeters on the edge of keeping your mind or losing it, falling down its own rabbit holes of unknown depth. This is essential when it is combined with story elements and characterization that complement it. By the end of episode 1, we not only have seen Steven in his fragile state, but this song helps us experience it. It portrays a man on the brink of insanity trying to keep himself going by pretending he's okay. The melancholy lyrics combined with the "positive" melody and Humperdinck's brilliant vocals creates a kind of uneasy stability and creates a grey void where our thoughts and feelings should be. This masterful use of opposing techniques takes me to the Uncanny Valley, which I think is why I can't think about anything other than the song when I'm listening to it. My fight or flight mode isn't on, but it is on standby and I can't turn it off. The fact that this song is so tantalizingly close to being either positive or negative is incredibly frustrating to me. I think it's be because it's part of who we are. Since this song walks the line between opposing themes, it's not the things we know are happening in the song that's driving us insane, it's that despite all the information we've been presented, we still know nothing. Edit: Now that I've listened to it a few more times I realize I'm wrong about a few things. There isn't exactly a facade; the speaker highlights his loneliness and sorrow and doesn't try to hide it. What creates the uneasy feeling is mostly the difference between what he's singing and what the music is telling us. That's why we can't truly know what this song is. Also, I don't think this song was designed that in mind. If Humperdinck really wanted to mess with our minds he could've made the difference much smaller or bigger, or changed to a key that's more traditionally used for sad songs but play a positive melody (he might've here but it doesn't really feel like it). However, the key change in the middle of the first verse and the second chorus may prove me wrong there. Those are used intelligently.
For years as a kid I tried searching for this song, I only knew the melody i really Loved it. While watching moon knight's final episode i heard the lyrics and i cried coz i found the song I've been searching for years.😢❤️
Fun fact: if you use headphones with surround sound, you will hear the music in 3 different ways: 1. Both ears on: normal one 2. The right ear only: no drums (and other instruments) 3. The left ear: with drums but without the other instruments The fact that they did it with a song almost a century old is just phenomenal

I love how the melody and presentation are anthemic, confident, and clear but the topic is sadness and heartbreak. Makes me feel like someone could just gladly shout out "I'm depressed!" or something. This is how a real Chad handles sadness

This is such a beautiful song and my Dad would play it a lot on road trips. He passed away a few weeks ago and hearing this makes me smile and reminisce of happy times with Dad. Now it's part of my road trip mix tape.
Sending love and condolences your way. I'm sure he'd be delighted to know that you still listen to it!
Much love to you my man, may he rest peacefully
Those are used intelligently.
chill

Fun fact: if you use headphones with surround sound, you will hear the music in 3 different ways: 1. Both ears on: normal one
2. The right ear only: no drums (and other instruments)
3. The left ear: with drums but without the other instruments
The fact that they did it with a song almost a century old is just phenomenal

My father used to listen to this masterpiece when I was a kid. I heard it again with Moon Knight and damn it, memories came to me
This was one of many of your songs that my Papa would sang me as a lullaby. Before we could afford a tape player, he would sing while playing his guitar. I was around 5 years old when we got our first cassette tape player and the first tape my papa bought was "please release me". If he were alive today, i'm 100% sure he would have been delighted to meet you online or in person. Your songs evoke strong emotional and sentimental memories until now. Thank you.
I unintentionally kept this song in my heart before finding it again in Marvel Studios' Moon Knight, Sir. As a kid in this generation, Im really blessed BOTH hearing your songs (that are now considered not just a classic but legendary) and at the same time witnessing and enjoying being a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
