  • Have you ever wanted Microsoft Access to automatically Maximize itself when it opened? This is especially helpful if you've got large forms that display on startup. In this video I'll show you how to do just that. I'll also show you how to force other databases to Restore to a normal window if the previous database opened Maximized.
Michael (a Gold Member) asks, "I work between a couple of different database files. Whenever I open them they take the shape of the last Access database I had opened. I’ve got a couple with really big Main Menu forms and they get squished. So now I have to close the form and reopen it, or manually adjust the size. Is there a way I can just make Access maximize itself when it opens? I don’t want them ALL maximized, just a few."
    BONUS FOR CHANNEL MEMBERS:
Silver Members and up get access to an EXTENDED CUT of this video which covers additional examples. That video will show you how to Minimize and Restore both the Ribbon and the Navigation Pane as well.

Thanks, I've been looking for that bit of code for ages. I've been using code key to simulate hitting F11, but that never maximized the whole database. This solution is far better!

    Hi Richard.
I absolutely LOVE all your Tech Help Videos. I'm learning a lot from you.
I'm fairly new to coding and I'm struggling a bit, and this might be a silly question to ask but, some of my forms keep on opening up behind my main menu form. How can I fix it without hiding the main menu?

Is your main menu set to Popup?

@@599CD Yes it is set to Popup...which I'm guessing now, is wrong? ☺

Nice! I have an access application minimized on taskbar. I need to activate it from another access database. Could not find a solution, perhaps you will suggest? Thank you!

You'd either need the two databases to talk to each other via a linked table (or TXT file) and have a timer event running, OR you'd need a Windows API call. I'll add it to the TechHelp list, but it's a VERY long list. Members get priority.

I would like to ask if it is possible because I am having a problem on other monitor/laptop with different screen resolution.. some of the form can't be seen if the monitor is small and on larger screen there too many spaces (I am using do cmd.do.maximize.. Can I make the form auto resize to base on the screen size?

    Hi Richard,
When we use docmd.maximise inside access. the window maximises, but hides (overrides) the windows taskbar too.
I want the screen to maximise but also keep the windows taskbar and not hide it.
Can you pls guide me, as to how that can be achieved.
    Thanks in advance.

Great... I hace access database and create navigation form with vba code maximize.. so when i open, automatically maximize form... But when i minimize ms access programme and then go to again ms acces, my navigation form is not in maximize form.. why?

Not sure. It should. If you maximize a form inside of Access, then minimize ACCESS, and restore it, your form should still be maximized inside of Access. What version of Access are you using? Make sure you have the latest updates. See 599cd.com/Trouble
