This has been, not only my favorite cure song, but one of my favorite rock and roll songs PERIOD, for decades...but based on all the Cure song rankings I’ve seen (and I’ve looked at a load of them), I’m a club of one:/ It never shows up in the top 10’s or even top 50’s, and in a ranking of their entire catalogue of 225 original songs by “slicing up eyeballs,” from 2017, it was in the 60’s. I guess I’m weird. Oh well, thanks for taking the time to read!
My favourite Cure album, I loved the 80s era Cure! This, Head On The Door, The Top, KMKMKM, the "dark trilogy"....so many gems.
i used to have the mini lp (US version) on cassette which had this and The Walk on it among others. just so gorgeous. one of my favorite albums of theirs..
The album was called "Japanese Whispers". Four of the tracks were on the 12" of The Walk...

This is a band from the 80's that doesn't sound like a band from that decade, not counting those songs that were commercial and done just to please record executives. The Cure is not about pop music...they are haunted and lonely, lyrical and complex, funny and sad.

Robert Smith wanted this song to be an A-side, it would have been amazing if it had been. One of their best tunes.
Any idea why it wasn’t made an A-side? Who decided, if not Robert?
@@Doubleentendre69 Chris Parry, te band's manager, wanted The Cure to record a commercial, radio-friendly single in an attempt to get them into the charts and dispel their 'doom and gloom' image. That's why they made the song Let's Go To Bed. But Robert was less keen on the idea of going in a commercial direction so he balanced it out with a more traditional Cure song on the b-side with Just One Kiss. He preferred this song and wanted to make it a double A-side, but Chris Parry was insistent so wasn't going to allow that, so Let's Go To Bed was released as the sole A-side with Just One Kiss on the b-side.

I read that Robert wanted this to be single but it was the bside to Let's Go to Bed instead. A very rare gem of a song! I am so happy there are over a quarter of a million views of this!

Fair do's "the cure" always did tremendous "b" sides, Japanese whisperers is a brilliant compilation album for sure, I personally think that this was his most creative period, "the glove", "the banshees", "Japanese whisperers", "the top" a mega amount of spellbinding music in a ridiculously short space of time

One of my favorite songs, and thank you for the lyrics. Just change "rained" to "reigned", because Robert had the queen of Siam (modern day Thailand) in his arms figuratively speaking. I recall reading that Mary loved to play dress up, perhaps they were role playing.
