Love it when it was released in 83 ,still love it in 2017, always had that hypnotic eastern influence sound.Robert Smith is the jack of all genres wow.lucky to grow up with his music 💹80s baby forever...#635
" Remember The Time that The island sank But nobody open their eyes" That words sound so actual when You see and ear in what a bad Way is our Blue Planet 😔 That song is Beautiful, The music is hypnotic, a Little master Piece and Japanese Whispers is a brilliant album 😍
This has been, not only my favorite cure song, but one of my favorite rock and roll songs PERIOD, for decades...but based on all the Cure song rankings I’ve seen (and I’ve looked at a load of them), I’m a club of one:/ It never shows up in the top 10’s or even top 50’s, and in a ranking of their entire catalogue of 225 original songs by “slicing up eyeballs,” from 2017, it was in the 60’s. I guess I’m weird. Oh well, thanks for taking the time to read!
This is a band from the 80's that doesn't sound like a band from that decade, not counting those songs that were commercial and done just to please record executives. The Cure is not about pop music...they are haunted and lonely, lyrical and complex, funny and sad.

i used to have the mini lp (US version) on cassette which had this and The Walk on it among others. just so gorgeous. one of my favorite albums of theirs..
I read that Robert wanted this to be single but it was the bside to Let's Go to Bed instead. A very rare gem of a song! I am so happy there are over a quarter of a million views of this! Thanks for posting this!
One of my favorite songs, and thank you for the lyrics. Just change "rained" to "reigned", because Robert had the queen of Siam (modern day Thailand) in his arms figuratively speaking. I recall reading that Mary loved to play dress up, perhaps they were role playing.
Fair do's "the cure" always did tremendous "b" sides, Japanese whisperers is a brilliant compilation album for sure, I personally think that this was his most creative period, "the glove", "the banshees", "Japanese whisperers", "the top" a mega amount of spellbinding music in a ridiculously short space of time
@@Doubleentendre69 Chris Parry, te band's manager, wanted The Cure to record a commercial, radio-friendly single in an attempt to get them into the charts and dispel their 'doom and gloom' image. That's why they made the song Let's Go To Bed. But Robert was less keen on the idea of going in a commercial direction so he balanced it out with a more traditional Cure song on the b-side with Just One Kiss. He preferred this song and wanted to make it a double A-side, but Chris Parry was insistent so wasn't going to allow that, so Let's Go To Bed was released as the sole A-side with Just One Kiss on the b-side.
These songs used to be the theme songs for sex, but now I don't even know anyone who knows them. I still remember, however, and as Camus said, I can live in a dead log forever, and watch the seasons change, and be happy.
there was not one cure album I did not like ,speaking of older cure I love them eat, sleep, think and drink to the cure ....you made a great point!!!!!!!!!!!1 c-moon
Great dark song , the exact opposite of " The Love Cats " which is my favorite from that Beautiful Short Album 😘 One of my favorite with " Kiss me Kiss me Kiss me " , " Three Imaginary boys" + " Boys don't Cry " , " The head on The door " and " Seventeen seconds " because " A Forest " ❤🎶😻🎸 The Cure are The Life, they should be Refund by The social welfare 😻👄
Holy shit, how did I never know this song ??? I saw them live at pinkpop yesterday and they did this track, I was like what the hell is this this sounds like it’s straight outta pornography, just found out it was a single also from 1982, so good
Today i discovered other cultures... After talking at some lenght on merits and demerits of an eastern flavour in the garden, caution was burned ang i put on this very stylist Japanese head (the meaning of which escapes me - something to do with L and R i think) and picked up my sitar and walked... This has been such a hot tune at the festivals this summer (2019)...Love it live!!!
Me too😀
My favourite Cure album, I loved the 80s era Cure! This, Head On The Door, The Top, KMKMKM, the "dark trilogy"....so many gems.

Different to most groups of the eighties
Still relevant today.
+Bob Doubter that's right
The Cure is the 80's. In that time. they were the very definition of the zeitgeist. Disintegration marked the end of the eighties.

The album was called "Japanese Whispers". Four of the tracks were on the 12" of The Walk...

I love this bubbling guitar sound.

Robert Smith wanted this song to be an A-side, it would have been amazing if it had been. One of their best tunes.
Any idea why it wasn’t made an A-side? Who decided, if not Robert?

Thank you so much for the response! I love this song so it's cool to know Robert was fond of it too :)

Anyone else notice the synth is similar to the one in "Mama" by Genesis? Both are great songs.

I love you Robert forever
It's real cool how they were turning pop, yet they weren't exactly pop, just another side of
them sure.
The Cure said Just one kiss but, i said i still remembered ,, :)
oh I got it ,thank you....
se parece mucho al sonido del álbum "Movement" de New Order
Their best song.. don't you agree
@Dani333ela I know. Kinda hard to keep up! Just when I think I've heard them all....another gem pops up.
The world was going New Wave....but the Cure was more....Dark Wave.
You notice how seductive, deep feeling and east Asian this sounds? Thoughtful use of minor key.

Solo un beso se necesita para enamorarte :) hahaha amor aveces creo en eso
somebody died for this.....probably that somebody was me!
3:37. Did Robert write that? And what's it all mean?
Oh, nvm about who write it, but what's it mean?
crazy sound :v
Kiss of death?
Yes
Who died for just one kiss and in a cross. Do you know?
