    For my personal tastes, these earlier, faster, punkier The Cure performances are better than anything that came later. This video is fantastic.

      you're right, This is the best way to play the song. But the cure has had over 40 years of great music since then. They really have had a remarkable career, and they're still going. How may of their contemporaries are still playing? I'm not talking about some reunion tour after 30 years either. The Cure have been playing and producing albums non-stop since 1979.

      @102straz3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When the Associates abruptly split in Edinburgh, Mick Dempsey had already made some TV appearances with Roxy Music and the word was he might be joining them for good... Except that Roxy Music called it a day at the end of 1982. Mick Dempsey then joined the Lotus Eaters from Liverpool. There are some Lotus Eaters live videos from around 1984-85 on YT, check them out, he's at the top of his game. As for why he never made it in the music business (at the very least he could have turned into a great session player) I've always believed that he was too kind for his own good and not career-oriented enough. Smith really treated him like a piece of crap at the end of 1979 and the had the nerve to claim he couldn't quite understand why Dempsey wouldn't talk to him anymore. Mackenzie and Rankine never made him a full-fledged member of the Associates even though his creative basslines were essential to their 1981-82 sound. The Lotus Eaters were immature and totally harrassed by their record company. The straw that broke the camel's back probably being that Dempsey wasn't a drug user in a drug-obsessed business. In the end, I think that Mick had enough and decided to go his own way.

    It was the beginning of FAME & GREAT CARREER ! When the young Rob Smith is smiling in the beginning he knew he was the winner for a long time.

    What a great talent R. Smith is is. I have never seen him so young, about the first time I bought their first records. The Cure never disappoint me. So many years later I keep enjoying their music, sad or happy.

    Man, Dempsey has some moves. Very cool to see this, as I'm currently reading about this period in "Never Enough: The Story of The Cure". Thanks for posting it.
