MOM SHARON PAIGE, RIP. I miss you so much but your here with me in my heart and up there singing to GOD and performing with the rest of the deceased singers.
Your mother was a fantastic singer, I'm writing this on Mother's Day I hope you are doing as well as you can during this bittersweet holiday. God bless you and your family.
I still love that song if you don’t know me by now. That song will never ever get old and I always wish I could hit the high note.RIP TEDDY PENDERGRASS
How many of you on here commenting really know this era????? Not many I'm guessing. Who gives a F@#k about the hair, clothing, etc????? It was all about the talent!!!!!! I attended a concert in Beaumont, TX in the 70`s showcasing the Isley Brothers, Teddy, and Lenny Williams (Tower of Power). Partied with them for a minute. They probably won't even remember except for Lenny, who formed an online/telephone relationship with my son. Teddy came out on stage in a long white robe like a see through outfit (I think he was naked underneath) because I saw something sticking straight out!!!!! I'm saying all of that to say this: As young as I was, I was treated with the utmost respect by ALL of THESE ICONS!!!!! RIP all who are gone from us!!!!!!! BTFU!
70s soul music was so freaking good songs like this one, drift away, oh girl, have you seen her, I feel good and lean on me were absolutely the best music around
These were the wonderful 70's. I was also into Hendricks and Rock & Roll yet I also LOVED the Blues and everything coming out of Motown. Teddy was smooth and I could CARE LESS how someone looked, their fashion, religion, race or color. It was their talent as an artist that only mattered to me. With singers and musicians there were plenty of drugs and alcohol yet the BOTTOM LINE was their talent. Teddy Pendergrass had soul and passion that came through in his voice. It was tragic what happened to him yet he became a teacher and taught his fans a valuable lesson. LOVE can conquer the many struggles yet it's the blessings in life that need to be counted. My son was born 01/04/1973 while his father was lost on drugs that lead his to be in prison that year. Teddy Pendergrass and Donna Summers really helped me get through those years in the 70's along with David Bowie. May sound like a strangle combo yet it was the music of the times. Thankfully I was vegetarian (now vegan for 16 years) that helped me stay healthy and blessed. RIP Teddy. I STILL play his LPs. Worked in the biz until they began to have CD's until 1988. TIME SURE DOES FLY TOO! So many greats now gone yet their MUSIC LIVES FOREVER. RIP Teddy. Such a gorgeous man too. R&B, soul, dance/pop, and hip hop artists were amazing in the 60's and 70's!!
I am black and I love the rock and roll music and some of the old music I be listen to be having our customers dancing to all the old music I be playing black in white in all other races even if they don't speak English the owner of 7-11; even though I don't play Indian music will let me stay there in play music all night LoL if the police pull up they will run them other people off because they know that they are begging people for money some times they will be dancing before they get back in their cars a lot of people ask me how do I know about all that good music I said if you play what's in your heart you will never go wrong I had singers calling the radio station giving me shout outs because I had reminded people of songs that they forgot in who sung them my name was on the Jay Leno show twice in around the world for thirteenth years people from all over the he world was calling the radio station asking about me iam just a regular person lol a lot of customers won't leave the restaurant or go inside until I have to go inside in work when iam sick that's all I be hearing how they miss my music oh by the way even the four in five years old be dancing 😂one of the guys had asked me if i seen them people dancing behind me I didn't know they was doing it at first lol🐒
This is why I love me some Philly. I used to live in North Philly for high school. The music, atmosphere, and culture was simply awesome. Philly embraced me better than my hometown of NYC. I need to head out to Philly and visit again.
I LOVE THIS SONG IF YOU DONT KNOW ME BY NOW THIS WAS MY JAM BACK IN THE DAYS WHEN I WAS YOUNGER STILL WET BEHIND THE EARS BUT NOW I AM ALL GROWN UP AND WISER NOW I HAVE ALOT OF EXPERIENCE I HAVE LEARN FOR MY MISTAKES BACK THEN. LOVE ME SOME TEDDY PENDERGRASS HES GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN REST IN PEACE MY BROTHER I KNOW YOUR UP IN HEAVEN STILL SINGING WITH THE ANGELS.
Your Boo's Boo Kenny Gamble or Leon Huff was in the studio & heard him singing & but this time the original Bluenotes broke up so they needed a lead singer & the rest was history !!!
@@cehayes74 That's my dad in the video playing the saxophone. He used to be the band leader/MD. TP didn't start singing after their break-up. Something happened at a show ( from what I was told) and he stepped up and that's how they became Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes featuring Teddy Pendergrass.
@@brothermouzone1307 What are u talking about? That the owner of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes didnt make his own shows, and somehow Teddy Pendergrass was available and . . . Where did u get that from, fantasyland?
It's amazing how much more handsome Teddy became when he got older and sported his natural hair. Just growing up. He far exceeded this phase in his life.
Hahahahaha!! I'm a musician, and I have to say - that is at once both hilarious, and brilliant.. Like Charles Dickens getting paid by the word!! Thanks for the amazing music, I'm a huge fan of the Blue Notes, Harold, Teddy, and Sharon..
DAMN TEDDY! WTF...... lol I'm so glad that when i got turned on to the Blue Notes his hair was NOT like that. Never seen this footage before now.. One things for sure that is Teddy's voice, undeniably. The man had a distinct voice that no one could mimick or touch. R.I.P. sir!
All Love to my Bro BERNIE WILSON I miss you Big BRO we had some boss times. Rick Brennan from Change North Philly Love Peace thank for the Music GUYS 333.
I love you, too, Sharon. LOL!! Although Teddy was the lead singer, and he was good, as long as I was with the group, he was only hoarse one time-which he quickly corrected. But Harold was the ultimate showman. He knew how to run a show from the beginning to the end. It was electrifying to share the stage with Harold, Sharon Paige and Teddy. It was hard to notice before, but the bass player, Micheal Foreman, was playing very well.
If you look closely, you will see a saxophonist in the background with a big Afro. LOL!! That was me. At the time Harold only used one horn. A little later he added a trumpet and a trombone. I didn't know this existed. Thanks!! I'll look for the one with Sammy and Co.
Undeniably, when the group begins to sing the chorus one could tell that the main VOICE of TEDDY PENDERGRASS is missing he talent was and is UNFORGETTABLE, he was the main VOCALS of this group. R.I.P.
I remember seeing this when i was kid me my father laughed when we saw teddy he likes Larry Dodson of the bar-kays here i remember when David Ruffin came on soultrain the first time he had a wig on my mother said David has gone superfly those were the good old days
Teddy "Slick Back" P, P stand for pimpin! The way Teddy approach that mic SLOW Pimpin at that! Only Teddy could of got away wit that hairstyle! Man you are missed, and will never be duplicated!
Beautiful there will never be another Theodore Pender grass
My brother played with the group when Sharon Paige was singing with them. Eric Randolph KEYBOARDS!
Back-up singers were so serious.

It's amazing that Teddy started off as their backup band's drummer - incredible. I wonder how they discovered he could SING??
