438 Days on the Sea: Salvador Alvarenga Interview

- Alvarenga survived 438 days adrift in the Pacific Ocean, drifting 7000 miles from just off Mexico, to the Marshall Islands. His open 24' fiberglass boat was disabled in a storm and nearly all his gear was swept overboard, disabled or had to be cut loose to keep the boat from sinking.
His story is way beyond ordinary, and now he's sharing it in this exclusive interview for Survivopedia readers.

This guy is a true survivor. I can't imagine the pain he went through
After six months he just didn't think about home but in his mind he belonged to the sea and just had to do what was necessary to survive each day at a time. That's an incredible mindset. Be grateful for surviving even one more day! ❤
The book that was written about this man's survival story is absolutely gripping. Just about anyone else would have failed to live as long as he did. He was a fisherman and understood how to catch food without the right gear. And he had a tremendous amount of faith. Plus it gives the perspective of the others involved, including those who went to look for him, and the person that found him in the Marshall Islands.
Subtitles are way off..
Why are the subtitles just entirely different to what he’s actually saying?
Hello, glad you found this video from 2017 and hope you like it. Where did you find these discrepancies? We checked his spanish and our subtitles in english and they seem ok.
@@survivopedia5452 Subtitles convey his meaning perfectly. But i undersyand why the guy asking might be a bit confused about it.
The meaning is the important thing. It is very dificult translate this man because...how can I say it? Eh...spanish is my mother language and it is difficult ever for me to understand what he says.He barely speaks spanish...

@@jishnukm9215 Not likely. He said he spoke daily to the corpse to keep his mental health. If you see everything else he says, you will see this is most likely true, and in that case, the corpse would have rotted in that time. So not likely at all.

This man dealt with a lot of shit after surviving being lost at sea. People calling him a lier just because he (his face) looked a bit chubby. And then the family of his partner accusing him of cannibalism even though there was never any proof of it and then have news articles slamming alot of negativity at him. I don't see anyway what he went through would be faked at all. People are always trying to go after anyone. I feel sorry for what he went through.

vanak vanak who knows in the book he says that his partner Cordova stopped eating because he ate a bird that swallowed a yellow bellied serpent. Cordova got poisoned and was sick for two days. That traumatized Cordova and starved to death. He died and kept him on board the ship for ten days then threw him over at night. I don’t think he had the conscious to do it.
So maybe he would have had to cut open the belly of all the birds before they ate them?
