Pocket Survival Kit (PSK) - Modified Rule of Threes
มุมมอง 1.8K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
Three hours without shelter, three days without water, three weeks without food. You've probably heard it a thousand times. It's the rule of threes - probably the oldest and most widely used mnemonic in the survival world. But your Pocket Survival Kit (PSK) is meant to make you survive anything. So Cache Valley Prepper is here to teach you what other "threes" you should be considering in your s...
Pocket Survival Kit (PSK) - Rescue vs. Self-recovery

There's a big debate going on since forever if you should attempt self-recovery or wait for rescue. After last week's video on rescue signaling in your PSK, Cache Valley Prepper is back to weigh in on what you should do during a survival situation. Should you sit tight and hope for the best while doing staying alert so you can signal to rescuers or should you grit your teeth, check your supplie...

On a moonless night, the human eye can barely distinguish shapes and everything is mostly a different shade of black, but they can also spot a lit candle from 30 miles away clearly. That's why it's important to carry a way to signal in your Pocket Survival Kit (PSK). If you don't, you may wind up like in the stories you've often heard of people being found dead in areas where rescuers thought t...

Security is at the top of the list of needs in a SHTF situation and while your first thought is gun as it is ours, there's more to pack in a PSK. But if you're going to ever fall asleep, what use is the firearm if you're going to get caught while snoozing? You could've been sleeping indoors if you packed what Cache Valley Prepper is presenting here or you could've at least set up some snag line...

A Pocket Survival Kit (PSK) is designed to keep you safe from as many threats as possible and that's why it must absolutely contain a first aid kit. But, as we know, a full-sized first aid kit is not in any way a small affair and while it can certainly pay off to be fully kitted, if you get parted with your full-sized kit, you may be SOL. Obviously, one would use a poncho in summer as any other season - because it RAINS. What the blazes is wrong with you. I don’t limit myself to my area, another state or other country. I wear my DIY Anorak and over-pants, breathable, wind and water repellent/proofed. Combined weight = 6.8 oz. For shelter, I use my DIY Dyneema floorless 4.7 oz tent. You’re living in the past.

Get potassium iodide crystals to mix with the cleanest water possible. We dissolved 1/4 tsp iodine crystals to 1 quart water. Apply topically. You can put a thin cloth or even a paper towel or Kleenex a wound or burn and keep it saturated with the iodine. Potassium iodide solution is clear. You must add iodine crystals to make it that red-brown color that permanently stains everything it touches which is why I prefer just the potassium iodide. Keep the wound saturated until pain goes away. Wet it often enough to keep redness and pain at a minimum. It even works on burns. Decades ago I spilled simmering soup on my left hand at a buffet. We always carried an ounce of the solution with us, so I wrapped my hand in a napkin that we saturated with the potassium iodide water. When I got home, I put a cup or so in a bowl and kept my hand soaked for about 3 hours until the pain went away. The next day all I had was a couple small spots of brownish skin that peeled like a sun burn, and a couple of painless pinhead size blisters in some of the palmar joint creases. I nave no scars. We used it as a nose drop, eye drop, or even swallowed it for nausea. It will sting a wound or eye or nose, but it kills most bugs on contact and is absorbed into the skin to go deeper.

Its close good for it And water problem ? Well use a condoom for use if you go in water. Just pull it over the tin can Normal use you will have not a problem with it.

Always like how people think its what it need Personal i go for a pocket like the leader man . A model with more use for fish tools on it Reason is have model that is more to use for fishing . Same with pocket knife i go for a model with saw on it . And not a lose blade and have to make something to let it work. A good option for a small Pocket knife will be a MY FIRST VICTORINOX H Thin knife and will fit in small tin box And yes is for kids first knife but will de the job just fine . Or the CAMPER model . The Corkscrew is really easy to use. To open the saw blade and the corkscrew. Use a tree branch and use corkscrew in to the branch . Than use rope to more secure the knife . And you can saw on higher place . Same with a needle . I use pocket needle set from a store. Its small pack with wires needle and more in a small plastic pack. What just fit in my tin can. I do look in to pick lock set. Something i do can use . But really small blade you can open some locks . Its not easy to make a toolbox in your pocket. Its al about what you need in the place you are . Wel do i go for a army Pocket knife . I use a (use Google and type in) Victorinox model 4 NL Its a Dutch officiële army knifel model . And really have what you need to use really al thinks. Problem no saw on it . Than you go for the HUNTER XT GRIP model. The Gutting blade both knife have them. And its use after you kill a rabbit to thake of the skin and more so you can make it ready to eat it. The knife is make this way so you will not cut the intestines. Just some thinks to think about it

Ponchos are not practical as a weather cover or a tarp. Why? As a poncho to wear for weather, it is waterproof and worn in warm weather you will sweat. It flaps in the wind - annoying and easily gets caught on brush. As a tarp it is too small for adequate coverage from wind, cold wind, rain, snow and critters. A breathable, wind, water resistant/waterproof Anorak/Jacket suffices for weather protection eliminating the issues of excessive heat and normal elimination from brush damage and wind annoyance. An adequately sized tarp or low weight/volume tent is suitable for coverage from the listed negatives.

Ultralight hikers aim for at least 200cals per oz of food. Survivalists would do well to use this as a guide as well. Try to get good protein and fat when you have water on hand. Most snack foods are too high in empty sugar. If you can't identify a local food plan on a weekend hike, you most likely won't be able to do it in a survival situation. Fish and meat however, you could get a fair amount of food even if you waste some from crude skinning if you are not trained in that. Forget those wallet card punch out "hooks", respect yourself and buy real hooks for your kits, they are small and dirt cheap.

One purpose to the lanyard holes in the water bag is to slowly melt snow inside your jacket (over a shirt!) in the winter if you have no other method. You can add some snow, and melt on the move. Do this only if you generate extra heat while moving, do not do it if you do not have enough clothes to keep you warm in the first place. If you carry anything besides pre-labeled tablets, write the wait time for what you carry on a piece of paper or the container. Don't forget the threads on any bottle that may hold untreated water. Dry your threads off before capping.

Entry tools can be a crime in some areas so know your laws. Entry tools are more of a SHTF or at the least an anti-kidnapping skill set. Better to focus on your basic needs unless kidnapping or sex trafficking is common in your area. That does not mean you should not train with them, but know where it is illegal to own, and where it is legal to own but illegal to carry outside of the house. The 2 rules of sport lock picking: 1. Don't pick any lock you don't own. 2. Don't pick any lock in use, in case you damage it. I got an after market key stuck in a Russian handcuff and was glad I didn't have it on my wrist at the time.
