Highlights of Bahia Luxury Akumal, Sian Ka'an, Tulum & Coba in Riviera Maya, Mexico

- Our favorite resort in Riviera Maya has always been Bahia Principe. This megaresort includes Akumal, the luxury level with rooms for both families and adults only, and Sian Ka'an, which is adults only and located by the golf course, Coba and Tulum. We especially enjoy staying in the adults-only section of Akumal because you have access to the whole resort, which includes Coba, the newly remodeled Tulum, and the Sian Ka'an, located across the bridge from the main resort. The best block of rooms we have stayed in are 82 and 83, which are situated adjacent to the Infinity pool and Los Corales restaurant. The restaurant is usually open for breakfast, which is enjoyable because you can view the infinity pool and the Caribbean Sea. When the restaurant was open for lunch, we sometimes ate there or took a break in the afternoon and enjoyed drinks and snacks while gazing upon the Sea. Unfortunately, the restaurant was not open at lunchtime due to low occupancy, so we greatly missed this afternoon's delight. In the evening, Los Corales is transformed into a steak house.
Many of the rooms located in Akumal are in much need of an update. It is one of the complaints of travelers who have recently stayed here. Unless you upgrade to a newer room, know that the accommodations are dated and not what I would refer to as luxury. Until they make this change, I doubt we will be back unless we pay extra for the upgraded room.
When you stay in Akumal or the Sian Ka'an for seven days, you will have access to the a la carte restaurants each night. You must make reservations in advance, which is what we do on the day we arrive. We had a delightful guest relations person Pablo, who made all of our reservations for us, including the shows. Our favorite restaurants are Maiko, Alux (located in Sian Ka'an), Arlequin, Dolce Vita, and the Brazilian, which we didn't make it to this time.
We made a reservation to see the new Origen show in the new Tulum theater, which was amazing. It doesn't look like there is a bad seat in the house. The music, costumes, and performer were fabulous. There is a charge of $10 to see the show, and you must reserve ahead of time. We opted for the VIP tickets, which were $25. Our VIP tickets allowed us to be seated directly in front of the stage area, and we could enter the theater in a special VIP line that was quicker without any wait. There is also a new show, Blackbird, which features the Beatles music, which we had to reserve in advance, but there is no charge. Unfortunately, it was the night before we left, and we were too tired to stay up for the 9 pm show. We would have liked to have seen it-next time.

Definitely take the trolly down to Akumal to the Infinity pool and Los Corales for lunch. Are you golfing while you are there.
@@noshoesjusttravelGO no, we aren’t golfers but some of our group are! We prefer the pool & the beach so definitely will be spending time at the infinity pool!
@@nailingitwithkia There’s plenty to do while they are golfing. The pools are quieter at the Sian Ka’an. You could also try the activity pool at Akumal if you are looking to be entertained. Have a good time!

When we were there it was on Saturday night, so only once a week. I believe it started around 6pm and went until 9 or so. They do a nice job and treat you very well. I hope you enjoy your stay there.

It should be mentioned that there are no elevators at this resort.
That’s a good point. I know that’s important for those who have limited mobility.
Is the resort wheelchair friendly? Would someone in a wheelchair be able to move between resorts without using the carts?
Some of the resort is, but the resort is so large that depending on how far you want to go between resorts, it may be somewhat difficult. Also, there are not elevators in some of the villas, so you would have to request the ground floor. On the beach, there are handicap spots that have a wooden floor for the wheel chairs.

Great video you guys. Please tell me this. I have knee issues and going up and down stairs is a problem wirh me. Does this resort have facilities in place (ramps? golf carts etc) to help me get everywhere I might want to go? (is. fromroom to restaurants, beach, pool etc..) Thanks so much h, Steve S.
The resort is large but there are golf carts that can help you navigate if needed. I’d also request a ground floor room because there are not elevators. There are a few areas with steps, but there are some ramps to help you navigate.
Lori - All inclusive includes all alcohol correct ??
Yes…it includes alcoholic drinks. There are some specialty items for purchase like bottles of wines at dinner and possibly a specialty drink now and then. Your basics like beer, frozen drinks, margaritas, pina coladas, and all basic mixed drinks are included.
So you stayed at BPL Akumal, but can use golf, restaurants, shows, etc. from the adjoined resorts?
Yes, when you stay in Akumal, you have access to to Sian Ka’an, Coba and Tulum. That’s one of the reasons we like to stay there.
Great video. Did you say rash guard?
Yes! A number of clothing companies sell them. They are a type of long sleeve, quick dry, t-shirt with and SPF of 50.

We call it rashguard in Canada as well 😊 great for kids!
@@safiyas.2546 I agree! I like them because I don’t have to apply as much sunscreen. I avoided them because I thought they would be hot and uncomfortable, but they are not. I have two that I wear quite a bit.
Can guest staying at the Akumal go to the Seafood buffer?
Yes! You can use all of the restaurants located at the Sian Ka’an.

Which hotel has the best beaches
We like the beach at the Barcelo in Riviera Maya and the RIU Dunamar and Palace at Costa Mujeres has a beautiful beach. I have a video of that resort too.
Wrong name, this is not Gran Bahia Akumal but Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal… grand & luxury are 2 different classes of resort!
