    Knicks fan from the '90's. I used to scream at the TV back in the day when Jordan palmed the ball, travelled, pushed off. He was His Airness and the NBA would let him do almost anything. It's not a better game by ignoring travelling and palming. It was exciting when the defense could force the offense into awkward and bad situations.

    I started watching the NBA in late 80s and even back then, as an European, I can say there was A LOT of traveling that was allowed in the NBA. Not just Jordan, but in general (at least compared to European basketball, where it was much stricter in that matter).
    I haven't watched the NBA much in the last 2 decades, but when I watch some videos of today's games I'm in shock by the amount of travel that is allowed... it's not just the 3 steps that go unpunished... it's often 4, 5 or even more steps that never get called... When was the last time a referee called a travel on the NBA? a few years ago? How many steps does it take to call travel? 10+? It's crazy!!

    • @Kharl19
      @Kharl19 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They do it sometimes but its so inconsistent...a ref might do it 2 days ago, and another won't call it 2 days later, in the same day, a star miggt get called for it, but another star won't. They're so inconsistent

    Good video. On that same topic, I used to think Kawhi was the best player in the league. Then somebody pointed out how much he travels. Now I can't unsee it. I don't mind a little carry on an Iverson crossover, but the traveling has to stop. It's gone way too far.

    NBA still will not call traveling on any major star. You can't touch the stars. It's all designed to make stars look great. Look at the ratings for the NBA. Outside of NBA cities, NO ONE is watching and frankly that is depressing.

  • @michael.schuler
    @michael.schuler ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I wonder if the "evolution" of dribbling, which now allows many spectacular handles that clearly would have been called as carries in earlier years, has resulted in part due to the overall increase in hand size as the average height of players has increased since Cousy. If you're a little guy (under 6'), try dribbling with a soccer ball instead of a basketball. The tendency/temptation to carry is much greater than with a basketball. Just a thought.

    • @sugarnads
      @sugarnads ปีที่แล้ว

      Do some research into player heights.
      The change is bigger tvs and aspect ratios. They just look smaller. And the nba now measures players in their shoes not barefoot. Screws the stats.

    • @jimmulcahey9312
      @jimmulcahey9312 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The average player today is 1/2 an inch to an inch taller than when Wilt played in the 60’s and the players are about 10 pounds heavier now than they were then. Not much difference in size.

      Flagrant foul rule was implemented in 91 which also happens to be the first year Jordan won. Before that it was just a hard foul. The rules were changed to make it easier for Jordan. As far as traveling and palming and carrying over goes the rules haven’t changed but the refs just aren’t calling them.

    Jordan was, also the originator of carrying/palming the ball, and getting away with it. He was kind of subtle with it, and not quite as bad as they are today, but still, it was there. Not calling it makes for a significant advantage over the defense.
