The face of the league is one of those things, "You can't define it but you'll know it when you see it."
JT is a system type of player.
When he is on the court you might not notice him but when he sits, you can notice that the team doesn't function as usual.
He is special because he can do everything that you ask him to and one of the things is to take the back seat.
Jason tatum is very unique. And the media can't aknowledge for what he is and does.
He's not dramatic and it's ok. Most fans know him. Later on he can flex and build his team like others but he cool. My wizards would love him
Hes actually not a system player. That's quite possibly what he's least like. He's a iso-guy (kobe adulation) that has reformed his game to THIS team.
Other than that, I agree.
@wannabegolfin24-72 he led Boston in assist this post season, how many iso guys are doing that? I wish he was more selfish
He’s a hooper. Period. Just laces up, goes out, and balls out. But doesn’t quite have the charisma or standout personality to carry a league yet. He could end up best player in the world, but probably won’t ever be face of league. Think Tim Duncan.
My issue with Tatum being face of the league, there's at least 5 players better than him at the moment, when Jordan and Bron was the face, they were the best player in the league at the time.
Excluding the old guard.... Embid, Gianis, Jokic, Luka and maybe my guy in Memphis....Morant. is your 5?
@@KenUghiovhejoker luka Gianna’s embiid shai but I then put Tatum then ant
It's arguable that Tatum isn't even the best American born player. Why would he be the face of the league?
I wonder how can ANT be the face of the NBA if he also is not the best player in the NBA and doesn't have any championships or MVPs or nothing?
Jokic who else who is not near retirement. Luka doesn't play Defense
3:48 Rob Parker wanted to say “Cornball Brother” 😂 but then remembered what happened the least time he used that word 😂
Haaaaa! I wouldn't know Rob Parker if it weren't for his cornerball brother remarks
Then Skip talked about how he’s a real brotha because he has dreadlocks! And Stephen A. started scolding everyone!
The whole segment was a glorious dumpster fire!😂
That’s the day i realized rob parker was a real mf’er
Tatum did that corny thing after the finals but he was never a cornball he's not a shame battier

That was his time to show the world he was better than Tatum and he blew it,8 turnovers in a close out games 7 last time Tatum was in a game 7 he scored 50 prior to that Miami series with that ankle sprain when brown is down it's like all his skills are gone ,his defense starts to look iffy , turning over the ball dumb fouls ,he becomes a liability on the court where to Tatum if his shot not falling he can give that effort into anything else be the top rebounder and play maker and would guard a big if he has to ,what y'all think brown did to Luka is what Tatum actually did to Durant vs Brooklyn brown couldn't do nothing with Luka besides some key plays but Tatum actually guarded Durant
The Spurs also never repeated even though they have 5 titles.

The disrespect to Tim Duncan is wild, he’s top 10 all-time. Tatum is not consistently dominant enough to be the face of the league but he’s still a champion so the hate needs to stop.
Duncan gets a lot of undue disrespect from Kobe fans who hate the fact that literally every single cumulative value stat says Duncan was the superior player
Is it disrespectful to say he was not the face of the NBA? I don't think so. They were pretty much praising his performances. I don't see how that's being disrespectful.
I agree that Tim Duncan is criminally underrated. I, in fact, think he's better at [between-the-lines] basketball than:
(1) Shaquille O'neal;
(2) Kobe Bryant;
(3) Steph Curry; and
(4) Lebron James.
He never seems to get credit for being higher than those guys, though. In my eyes, the reason he doesn't get greater recognition is because *he doesn't have star power* . *He was a boring player* (the most boring all-timer that I know of).
@@0-Elias-0 Yes on 3 and (especially) 2; much tougher case on 1 and (especially) 4 when you look at the cumulative value metrics.
Tim Duncan is probably the most underrated player of all time. And it's precisely because he didn't play to the media or fans. Just to winning. Very good comparison to Tatum.
For JT to be face of League he's gotta at least be the clearcut alpha on his own team... Are we even there yet..?
Just because Jaylen Brown doesn’t smile doesn’t mean he is better than Tatum ..
Jaylen Brown does not have 3 straight First Team All-NBA selections, he averages less points, rebounds and assists than Tatum. Tatum leads the Celtics in plus minus. Scouting reports plans for Tatum. We can go on and on but its evidently a dumb statement that he's not "the alpha" of the team.

These two just gave a horrible comparison between the face of baseball and the face of basketball. You can’t logically compare the two. For example, unlike basketball, a single star or individual in baseball and other sports cannot carry a below average team (talent-wise), to the championship or deep into the playoffs. It’s more of a team effort. For example, what would be the equivalent in baseball or football, to that first Cleveland Cavaliers team Lebron took to the Finals? It’s not going to happen in baseball, football or soccer, no matter how good a star on that team is.
Then they essentially repeat what Wade and Melo said about Anthony Edwards and Tatum.

why does it matter if hes the face of the NBA? Cs are best team in bball if they keep winning who cares. Hes still young, not at his prime. Hes done what team needed to win, guarded 5s against mavs. He might get better next few years. Anyway if theyre like 2000s Pistons that were winning without a superstar, theyre still best.
JT chose winning over all, and thats much more important. they managed to put their egos aside this year, with all-start starting lineup that worked as 1. Nobody cried about his shots, about role, about packing order. With 5 guys like that you cant play like Luka or Lebron. Wouldnt work, those guys are not just spot-up shooters. They used KP in the middle as a hub and he either distributed or finished over guys , when he was with Luka it just didnt work. Also JB had a ball a lot, White had a ball a lot, they even used old man Al down low to mix it up, a little postups. Thats why (with KP healthy) its a coin toss between those 3 who would be a series MVP, depending on matchup.
As for US team - you should ask Steve Kerr what theyre doing, cause nobody else actually knows.. it doesnt look good.
It mattered for viewership. That’s why when Tom Brady left, the NFL quickly shifted to mahomes being the face and star.

Its because Tatum plays for Boston. The Boston Celtics are the 3rd favorite sports team in Boston. Despite them winning a Chip, the Patriots and Red Sox both having terrible seasons won't keep them from being more popular teams in the area. Boston simply isn't a Basketball town. If you can't be the Sports face of your town, you can't be the face of the league.

He could have been the face of the league but Kendrick dropped that “not like us” and Tatum look like drake. He caught a stray!! 😂😂
I don’t think there’s going to be one guy.. I think it’s going to be by committee.. Edward’s, Luka, Tatum, n maybe Ja .. I don’t think one is going to be the face of the league
Underrated comment
If you want to be the FACE of the league you have to have a few things.
You got to be American born
X- Factor ( A fear factor for other teams )
A game everyone likes to watch, it looks good , it feels a bit flashy or has a bit of wow factor to it
A likeable personality
Something the Kids can relate to and aspire to be
Im not sure Tatum has enough of these.
Jokic yes let me repeat that JOKIC! has more personality that Tatum , thats how unremarkable the guy is. Hes like a manufactured NPC playing it safe all the time. Edwards has sas, Ja is a bad boy, these are all personality traits people gravitate to.
The players speak in cliche's, hate the fans, and play a drive and kick, 3 point shooting style of play. The prices are too high for tickets and the players that seem to give a damn, are from Eastern Europe.
3:51 to his point here, IDK this is true bc i’m not from boston, but i feel like people go to see the celtics as a whole, not just to see jayson tatum. if he was on the pistons no one would care as much. if it’s melo/kd on the pistons, well people are still going to see them drop 50 😂
Much harder to win the whole thing in baseball if you are the best player. 1/9 chance buddy!
Isn’t there room for a new or different model? The notion of winning occurring through shared leadership is too much for these people to handle. He is the overall better player but his teammate is a dog in critical moments when he doesn’t have it. It’s called teamwork.
The CEO is great and the COO steps in and sures up the gaps when things get crazy. Sounds like a good leadership team to me. The old guard has to go.
How can he be face of the NBA if he's not the face of the team. Jaylen Brown, his spot winning conference MVP and Finals MVP
The Spurs analogy was prefect Rob. Shout out to Timmy D
Personality goes a long way
Hes not the face because he's a underwhelming performer when it matters most. We see what we see
This topic is pointless and subjective...i never saw kobe curry or lbj as the face of the sport...
So who was it? Or who you thought it was ?
Then you're in the extreme minority. Metrics, views, and revenue across all forms of media displayed that at different times, Kobe, Curry and LBJ have been among the faces of the league.
It doesn’t matter if you think they were the face of the league. Every one else and the media thought they were.
Ant going to take over the NBA when he's 25
"Jokic doesn't have personality" Such BS
Not world wide superstar personality nobody cares
JT is not that guy because he complains. Nobody can complain the way he does and be backed by the majority of fans.
