When Lara Fabian was first making her breakthrough in Europe, The North American market was completely overrun with Diva's. There was Celine, Mariah Carey, Cher, Whitney and about six or seven others. Then, throw in the Nashville crossovers like Shania Twain, The big fat girl and her mother and a few more from that side, all scratching and clawing for the same CD and concert dollar. I believe it was a calculated, deliberate and very smart decision not to pursue the North American market at that time. Lara left them to fight over North America while she conquered the rest of the world. And she ended up all the better for it. She doesn't have to use "auto tune" or lip sync to her own recorded music, flashy gowns and video backgrounds or pyrotechnics. She has, hands down, the greatest voice in history ! And, that's not just my own opinion, "it's a fact"! And she is drop dead gorgeous ! May she sing forever !
Everything you said resonated with my own feelings from seeing her performances.Pursuing an independent path was fraught with difficulties but thank the Lord she was forced to leave North America. Hard to say if she has the greatest voice, but many of her performances have proved to be unrepeatable by other singers. She is also a great performer as well as singer. She doesn't try to do "dances" to express her songs but her remarkable arm and hand gestures as well as her facial expressions result in more expressive performances than most of her contemporaries. I would add that, unlike most of the singers to who she is commonly compared ( e.g. Celine) she writes the lyrics and often the tunes of the original songs she sings. Therefore, one could truly say that she is her music and her music is her.

She is incredibly trained, including classical training . I read that she went to a prestigious music conservatory from age 8-18. She also wrote all her own music.
Nothing incredible to be honest. Classical training gives her most of this sound and long and high notes. Her style is very close to classical, change position a little and here it is. And of course her own colors of voice, her feeling of music, taste and acting

The look on your face was just like mine and anybody else I get to listen to this. I wept when I heard this the second time. Lara Fabian is above and beyond anybody else today.
Mostly, LARA sings her own music or, co-writing-creating-composing with others, but, YES, her voice is unique, and, her music is original 98% created by her... And, is not only the perfection in her Technic, it is also the charge of emotions she brings Us with every song, keeping a perfect balance between Emotions and Technic.... I just love how you just stared in awe with your mouth open. I hate when she's equated with other singers. She is the gift within the gift. ps, I didn't mean that she shouldn't be compared to other singers, but I've heard too many American's say that she sounds like Celine Dion. If only those that do that understood the work that Lara goes thru to maintain and keep that magnificent instrument at to peak for to maintain that range and belt. She lost hearing in her left ear because a technician f'd up the pitch and volume in the left ear bud. To this day you can see her reaching to her left ear continuously trying to adjust it thru out songs and shows. I wish that most Americans would explore other genre's and not let themselves to be force fed the top pop/rap and country. There's some great music out there but there is so much more than what the record label's push on artists to make $$$$
Glad you found Lara, I have been a fan of hers for about 18 years.....she sings with such emotion and humility all at the same time........wish more people these days understood and appreciated music like this......Lara's voice is so big she needs to have a huge orchestra to back it all up........try to find that in most singers today.........she is not only a singer, she is a musical perfectionist, and makes it look so easy......
I am a massive Lara fan. She is unique. She's one of the few singers who can make me cry. she sings and writes from the heart, and feels every word emotionally. I become transfixed. My emotions flow like an ocean of soothing waves to my soul. Celine is nowhere near not even close. Beauty and a special magic no one else has.

Lara is not from here. She's a godsend and to think she was borned to sing. Everything that has happened to her in life has led her to become to the performer she is today. Phenomenal is right. There is also another one of her attempting to sing Je T''aime in a French venue where the adoring audience actually began singing the song TO HER. She was very touched, as you could imagine. She is an incredible singer and an equally incredible songwriter. She has the best kind of beauty- that radiates from within and shines through. I know very little French and Italian. I understand Portuguese a bit more as my best friend is Brazilian; but Lara Fabian is one of those rare artists that can reach people's hearts and touch them, even if they don't understand the words, their heart understands, or their soul does- either case, the message is received and felt. My all-time favorite singer (May she rest in peace) was one of those artists (and a personal friend of mine for many years) for millions of people around the world (there are others)-- but my favorite diva, while doing a concert in an outdoor amphitheater, held out a big note while she slowly lowered the microphone to the floor- gradually her voice faded from the speaker system and her own natural voice FILLED the amphitheater. When she let go of the note, she seemed a little lost, almost frightened... by the silence. Not a sound. Then, someone started clapping, and more people began to clap, and and more and more, until the entire theater was on their feet cheering and clapping, and screaming and whistling. I turned to my friend and asked her, "Did that really just happen?" and she said, "YES". That singer filled an OUTDOOR amphitheater with her natural voice powered by her own lungs, without the use of the amplifier and speakers. That singer was Donna Summer. Lara Fabian can touch your heart and move people to tears and give them hope... Donna Summer could reach out and touch your soul, lift you to your feet and make you dance. This is POWER. It's magic. It's a gift. Lara Fabian is one of the greatest singers of our time. She may not have hits in America like Rhianna or ... okay, Shakira (I personally don't care for Shakira's voice when she sings in English-- but I LOVE her songs in Spanish, and I only understand a little Spanish...) but nonetheless, Lara Fabian is magical and her gifts are real and they matter. I discovered her a year ago when Canadian skaters used Je Suis Malade. It made me sit bolt upright and grab my phone to find out who it was. That was it for me, down the best rabbit hole ever I went. She took over the top spot as my favorite artist of all time. There is no other.
If listening from highest note on broken vow where her G5 sounded slightly bells type (flageolete register perhaps) and her lowest note at G3, she might be a mezzo soprano. Thats why maestra Fabian posseses a very thick and rich textured voice especially at 4th and 5th octave. Plus to that, she is at her best to radiant the emotions from all songs.
What? No, lara is DEFINITELY a full lyric soprano, she doesnt even have a low tessitura for a soprano. An example of someone thats a lower soprano is Celine, who can support down to E3 in her 20s and enters passaggio quite early on and can full on belt F4s

SoulFullOfMusic81 I’d argue the Celine has all the resonance and definitely the power but Lara’s voice is warmer. Celine’s tone is cooler but the benefit to that is more clarity. Except when she gets nasally sounding. I love both and it’s practically impossible for me to say which voice I appreciate more or think is better. Celine has much more English music and much more popularity in the states so I feel I “know” her better. Lara is definitely a voice to reckon with, one of the finest vocalists we have.

ps, I didn't mean that she shouldn't be compared to other singers, but I've heard too many American's say that she sounds like Celine Dion. If only those that do that understood the work that Lara goes thru to maintain and keep that magnificent instrument at to peak for to maintain that range and belt. She lost hearing in her left ear because a technician f'd up the pitch and volume in the left ear bud. To this day you can see her reaching to her left ear continuously trying to adjust it thru out songs and shows. I wish that most Americans would explore other genre's and not let themselves to be force fed the top pop/rap and country. There's some great music out there but there is so much more than what the record label's push on artists to make $$$$

I am a massive Lara fan. She is unique. She's one of the few singers who can make me cry. she sings and writes from the heart, and feels every word emotionally. I become transfixed. My emotions flow like an ocean of soothing waves to my soul. Celine is nowhere near not even close. Beauty and a special magic no one else has.

She is an incredible singer and an equally incredible songwriter. She has the best kind of beauty- that radiates from within and shines through. I know very little French and Italian. I understand Portuguese a bit more as my best friend is Brazilian; but Lara Fabian is one of those rare artists that can reach people's hearts and touch them, even if they don't understand the words, their heart understands, or their soul does- either case, the message is received and felt. My all-time favorite singer (May she rest in peace) was one of those artists (and a personal friend of mine for many years) for millions of people around the world (there are others)-- but my favorite diva, while doing a concert in an outdoor amphitheater, held out a big note while she slowly lowered the microphone to the floor- gradually her voice faded from the speaker system and her own natural voice FILLED the amphitheater. When she let go of the note, she seemed a little lost, almost frightened... by the silence. Not a sound. Then, someone started clapping, and more people began to clap, and and more and more, until the entire theater was on their feet cheering and clapping, and screaming and whistling. I turned to my friend and asked her, "Did that really just happen?" and she said, "YES". That singer filled an OUTDOOR amphitheater with her natural voice powered by her own lungs, without the use of the amplifier and speakers. That singer was Donna Summer. Lara Fabian can touch your heart and move people to tears and give them hope... Donna Summer could reach out and touch your soul, lift you to your feet and make you dance. This is POWER. It's magic. I discovered her a year ago when Canadian skaters used Je Suis Malade. It made me sit bolt upright and grab my phone to find out who it was. That was it for me, down the best rabbit hole ever I went. She took over the top spot as my favorite artist of all time. There is no other.

Thats why maestra Fabian posseses a very thick and rich textured voice especially at 4th and 5th octave. Plus to that, she is at her best to radiant the emotions from all songs.

SoulFullOfMusic81 I’d argue the Celine has all the resonance and definitely the power but Lara’s voice is warmer. Celine’s tone is cooler but the benefit to that is more clarity. Except when she gets nasally sounding. I love both and it’s practically impossible for me to say which voice I appreciate more or think is better. Celine has much more English music and much more popularity in the states so I feel I “know” her better. Lara is definitely a voice to reckon with, one of the finest vocalists we have.
