As a native houstonian I was raised to prepare for the worst even if u don't need the supplies, u start preparing in April. Have batteries & battery operated fans, lanterns, tv, water, non cooking food, get a barbecue pit, charcoal . U almost prepare like a camper would. Hurricane season is June - November, but with climate change it could go longer. Stay safe everyone.
I've been living in an older home in North Houston for 26 years. During this time, it has survived many storms and not flooded. We are blessed to have a great location and a well constructed older home. A gas grill and a mid-size generator got us through Beryl. However, during the storm our immediate concerns were large trees potentially falling as they did throughout the subdivision
Welcome to Houston!!!! We are very close to Galveston so if they get, we get hit. Thank God for Generators!!!!! Just found your channel! Thanks for being honest!
I am in Kingwood we lost power 5am Monday and still don’t have power. It’s a rental older home. This is called the living forest…. Well, it has a price. I agree about the new construction. Generator is a must going forward.
Every client consultation I’ve had since last Sunday I’ve told them to factor in buying a generator for their move. It’s a non negotiable at this point.
Thank you for sharing your hurricane experience. I like that you include these types of videos on your channel, and you include your wife and daughter. 🙂
Just been a little over 1 year in Houston. The May derecho storm drove me to buy a generator. Got the triFuel inverter generator that could run the house. We were out for 4 days. Thankfully, we didn't lose power this time. Besides, the detention lakes in Sunterra did a great job of preventing floods
Glad you guys made it through the storm. Were looking at purchasing a tri-fuel generator. We don’t need to power the entire house. Just as long as we have AC, lights, and fridge going, we should be ok
You have a beautiful family. I currently live in Los Angeles California. I will be retiring in 2-3 years. My daughter and I would like you to be our realtor in Houston. Love the information and home videos keep them coming. Will be in touch soon.
Sounds like a plan and congrats in advance on retirement. If you want to connect in the meantime here’s a link to my calendar: aaronlathan.prgtexas.net/buyer-consultation
So far so good. Trust but verify is my motto. Any builder can be great if you’re willing to make them stay honest. But I’ve had some of the best experiences with clients using Highland so far
I'm glad you and your family are okay after hurricane Beryl. In the past, flooding was our main concern during hurricane season...now it's, "are we going to have electricity?" Because it's hot during hurricane season. 😊
I’ve lived in Houston practically all of my life and never seen anything like Beryl. Seems like your community was built correctly. The home I lived in previously for 10 years in Richmond experienced street flooding during Hurricane Harvey.
I'm from Miami. Hurricane Andrew (Cat 5) hit us badly in 1992. This storm in Houston was very light work. Not even a category 1. My only problem is what happens if a Cat 5 hits Houston? Houston doesn't have an effective emergency plan. As far as Harvey, It was just long days of heavy rain which is why it flooded the city badly. Now, if that storm was a Cat 5, there's a strong possibility that most if not all those homes would've been destroyed. Thank God you and you're family are safe.
Yea anything above a Cat 1 and we’re gone. Houston has nothing in place for major events of any kind unfortunately 🥴. And with so many people here it just makes it worse
I have been in Houston for a year now and this is the second time we lost power, coming from Florida, Houston is not prepared for this kind of weather, which is weird because there has been multiple storms but still not prepared. After the first episode we purchased a generator, I we decide to stay here for the long run, a full side generator would be needed
I'm so glad that you and your family were safe during the storm. So my parents have a generac and it was our saving grace this week. Should you get a generac, just know that you will need to stock up on oil so should your generator stop on you, it might be because you are out of oil
@@aaronlathan FYI, If I had seen your videos first, I would have reached out to you, unfortunately I have a realtor, however I will send business your way.
I'm glad the family is okay. I love watching your videos! Do you have any videos in Dayton, TX? If you are in that area, I would love to learn more about Dayton. We are learning a lot before moving to Texas next year. It seems like the prices in Dayton are on par with affordability, and the distance is almost like other cities you touched base on. Thank you.
Hi Aaron. So glad to see you amd your beautiful family are safe and well. My family and I will be moving from S. Fl to the Houston area in July 2025. We want new construction (I love neighborhoods with sidewalks for bike riding and running paths) but we want a large lot (half an acre to a full acre). We want to use you as our realtor but wanted to fly in and look at neighborhoods ahead of time. Any suggestions??
Nice. I look forward to helping. Depends on a few factors though. But I’d love to talk through options with you to help you game plan. Here’s my calendar ☺️: aaronlathan.prgtexas.net/buyer-consultation
My main question was about Meridiana because I was considering this particular community. I'm from the Port Arthur/Beaumont area so I'm no stranger to flooding and hurricanes. Also, I've been watching your channel. Did you go with the Panamera plan...I noticed that curved staircase. I walked that particular house and I love the Panamera (sorry if I'm sharing too personal info).
@@aaronlathan After your video, probably lol. I was just waiting to see how Meridiana handled hurricanes and flooding (for sure flooding) for the exact reason you mentioned. South Houston metro, closer to the coast.
@@aaronlathan I've got your info, don't worry and I definitely have been watching your videos for close to a year now as well. I've been talking to a realtor for a year now, as well, but I've not signed a contact or anything with him. I'm one of those traveling healthcare workers with some changes going on.
I disagree about newer places. My home is 2008 and it never flooded. Moved to Katy a year ago. Most of Katy didn’t lose power. Most of our lines are underground. We have a decent amount of trees, but not surrounding our homes, so little trees falling. Most people without electricity was out for about 3-4 days. I hear the woodlands/Conroe area stay getting hit with floods, falling trees and big storms. I’m glad I didn’t choose that area.
I’m thankful that you haven’t had issues in your area. There are a few communities that have had little to no impact from recent storms but I’d say you’re more of an exception than the rule though.
That McDonald’s being closed and the Whataburger stuck in purgatory is a problem. Lmfao. I need both open asap. Bringing back lukewarm food from Pearland is getting old 🥴
Well, I am assuming you mean cities around Houston because Meridiana is Iowa Colony, we did not lose power during the hurricane just tree limbs and fence boards thank goodness.

First u have a bbq of any meat u got in the freezer . Always have a couple of bags of ice in the freezer and a ice chest to keep fridge items cold . Never buy more than a weeks worth of food . I went to cooling centers during the day and then found places to chill out until the temps dropped enough to go home to sleep . You can ride the bus all day to stay cool . Always keep food that dont spoil and dont need to be cooked on hand . Always have an emergency stash of cash because if the power out banks and debit cards dont work . I had a small generator to charge my phone for several days but it was too small to really do anything else . Do not just sit at home and wait for help you got to go find the help you need the government is not going to do anything for you .

The whole house generator is great as long as you can afford it.
The bill is the bill at this point 🥴 but I agree. Gotta do whatever you can in whatever budget you’re working with. But you gotta have something.
I lost power 5am day of hurricane in shadow creek ranch (Pearland) ….then power came back on 7pm same day
