I am an avid plant collector and ferns of all sorts are always dear to my heart. Can I please ask you, I have a bifurcadum that is in a pot. There are three base fronds standing up and almost facing each other but, they have all grown brown. When can I see a new green base frond growing? Also, I have two elephant pups as I dream of that large specimen like that one on your porch! I would like to mount these ferns but am afraid to interrupt their growing patters if I do so with the base fronds brown.
Thanks for the video. I'm so glad to meet someone who knows what a Staghorn Fern really is. So many videos here are folks showing Elkhorn Ferns and calling them Staghorns. I have Elkhorns here in Florida. Your Staghorns are beautiful. By the way I had a rain barrel full of tad poles so I hooked up an air stone and started feeding them. There were hundreds, and now they are jumping all around the neighborhood. lol. Thanks again.

Hello, can you please help me? I have just mounted my stag horn onto a larger mounting board. But since it was firmly attached due to natural growth to the original board, I took out the single length of wire which initially held it to the board. Then I screwed that board with the plant on it to the new mounting board. Should I have taken out that wire? board
Hello Daleys - I have a large staghorn on a board and its feeding leaves have spread onto the brick. Its two years mounted there. Its getting quite large, does not have those other spore carrying leaves yet - but it is near the front entrance screen door and I am worried it is now too close. Can I take it down and remove its leaves from the bricks without damage and place it elsewhere on the verandah? Without damaging the lushness of the leaves. It actually does not have any old brown leaves yet - its just big and lush and green all over.
Hi the huge fern is so amazing! do you just mounted it and putting into moss and some soil at beginning? then it just keep growing ? or you add more of planting medium later as it grow older?
what do you do with them during winter months? And, with them hanging on a wall how do you water them without the excess water or even the dampness from the plant from running down a wall if they're indoors?
Hello, can I get children from this species of Platycerium? Could you tell me how? I have the plant for 1 year but until now I don't know how to do it and the reproduction by spores is very difficult for me. Thank you very much in advance, greetings from Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
Thank you for this amazing video! What materials (wood wise) would you stay make the best mounts? and the smaller one looks pretty porous, is that a type of wood that you fixed it to first or is it more of a foam material?
I have superbum in my country but most of them died, maybe Superbum not good in Malaysia cilmate but for Wandae and Holttumii is easy. i have 12 species. Platycerium Andinum, Madagascariense, and Platycerium Quadridichotomum are others species hard to grow in my country but i saw in Indonesia Bali and East Java Madagascarinese grow fine.
You just are not into tropical plants in California if you don't have P.superbum. Very easy to grow. Just water often in summer. I have mine on a Podocarpus gracilior tree..so no shortage of tree litter for it to collect. Every now and then a banana peel or some rotting apple tossed on it.
G'day. I live in Whyalla south Australia ( not much rain and it's fucking hot in summer) and Iv'e been growing stag and elk horns fern for 25+ years. I have had some nasty looking spiders make they're home in and on my plants and I leave them alone to do what they do, kill pests ( always use the right ppe stuff when gardening ). I have a staghorn fern that is 45 years old which I have just remounted. My shade house is 10 x 3 mtr and I have 35 stags and LOTS of elks
the most beautiful and prehistoric like plant, super beauty, thank you
Love this video, very informative and I absolutely love the narrating, the camera man, the editing haha y’all are great many thanks!

i knew they could get big, but this is almost unreal. what a magnificent and bizarrely ancient looking plant!
My aunt had one that had to be taken in during the winter. It took two men to move it.

E Lombard did you get an answer about spiders?
No, I didn't. Probably for the best. I've read they have some pretty gnarly spiders down under : )
Yes, and snakes ...
the rainforest regions might have treefrogs but in drier areas they are full of spiders, big huntsmans. i woudn't dream of putting my hand in there.
