Thanks for the enlightment! I just got the Platycerium bugs recently, as a newbie, couldn't be more grateful to find your channel here! Marvellous!
Glad I could help! Thank you for watching!
Best video on this topic I ever seen. Thank you so much.
Wow, thank you!
Great video, thank you!
Great advice and tips. Thanks for sharing.
No problem! Thank you!
This was such an awesome video, great explanation with so much detail. Will use this as my guide to mount the new members of my plants family. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching!!
very helpful guide. thank you!
Thank you for watching!
Great tutorial thank you
You’re welcome 😊! Thank you!
Thank you, this is a perfect explanation on how to munt my baby staghorn ferns
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching it!
Thank you for the detailed explantion. The shields on my fern grew away from the moss ball on my first try. Didn't know there was a correct orientation and it turns out that the bud was was at a 4oclock position instead of 12oclock. So I carefully unrolled the 5 layers of sheild fronds and remounted. I'm still waiting to see if new fronds will now form to the shap of the mossball.
Off subject: The design on your tshirt is🔥! I like
Thank you so much for watching the video!! Also, thank you so much for the compliment of the tshirt lol!
Never seen a yellow frog before... Kawaii 🤩
The same goes for plants! They're albino frogs! Variegated frog LOL!
Thanks aloninoasis. 🥰
Thank you!! =)
I would love to see any guides you could make on care for Jade Girl / Bacteria! I’m importing one soon and there is little to no info online about their specific care! This is a super helpful video
Sure thing! If I have one of those you mentioned LOL!! I do not give advice or guides that I've no experience in growing the plant before. I strongly believe in empirical knowledge. Hope you understand !! Thank you!
What is this plant that you have mentioned. Never heard of it !!
Thank you for a really detailed video...its like watching an artist at work. Such attention to detail! 😊 The frog is beautiful 🐸 I'm hoping it doesn't live in the bowl? It must be so frustrating for it not to be able to hop around 😢. xx
Thank you so much 😀!!! The frog is living in another enclosure. The bowl is only for video shooting purposes. =)
@@aloneinoasis 😁💕🐸
Thanks for this informative video. Do You also have some kind of overview which plants need what kind of "shape moseball", or core medium. I heard Ball scape: Ridleyi, or in pumice (dryer) for Ridleyi or Veichii?
I hear you're counting, is there a reason? Do you also have some kind of "resource" with pictures and information of this special plants?
But thanks, for this video!
Hello! Thanks for your questions. Yes, I always ensure the matured plant before mounting them on board. But in general, all the staghorn can be mounted in a round shape moss ball. But some prefer to mount it on a more flat surface.
You can actually join some facebook staghorn community groups or search the hashtag on Instagram to get to know more about the species and the matured looking platycerium too.
❤❤❤😊
What are the black mesh plastic mounting boards you use on your P. wandae?
Hey! Thanks for commenting. The mesh is to secure the bottom part of the plant to prevent too much moss falling apart.
Thank you for the great tips. How do I water it?
You can submerge the plant into a bucket of water. It is easy
Could you please tell me how to hang a large green as one piece? Multiple pups with the new growth all facing different directions. I want to take this staghorn out of dirt and mount it but am afraid to put it upside down. Do I have to separate all pups and place them the correct direction or can I just put it on the board?
Hello, you can leave them there as you like. Some prefer to grow them in clump form. Even in nature, this is the way they grow.
What do you think about mounting on cork bark? I feel like I don't see many serious growers do that
Hey! Thanks for the comment. Yes, I mounted mine in cork bark too, but only for my collective staghorn. For others, the plank is the easiest way to maintain and grow.
Do you seal or waterproof the board you’re using to mouont the plant? In other videos they make this point very important but if you use driftwood it is also sealed? Sorry, and thank!
Thank you for your comment! I do not seal or waterproof the board. Usually, the wood that I used for my platy is cut directly from natural wood without much process. But for certain wood, such as rengas and balao wood, I believe the carpenter already applies a layer of substance for protection. He told me that the substance will not harm the plant. (Not sure about the substance name). =)
Use coconut oil to seal your board it's natural and works
do you have to remove the wiring and line before the plant starts to cover it?
Hello! I did not remove the wiring and the line. I'll just replenish them with moss to cover up, removing them might damage the root system too.
Another question, after making a round moss ball and securing with fishing line. I feel like the moss always feels hard, even after soaking. Is it possible I made the moss too compact during mounting, and is it a problem if it is?
Yes, being too compact with pure moss is also a problem too. That's why I always use chunky media in the core to ensure good aeration. Make sure to soak it longer to let the moss fully absorb the moisture.
I know this was actually kinda long ago but, what soil should i use for my platy until its mature? (pls respond)
Hey! We usually advise using Moss or coconut husks, not soil. soil would be too compacted that it suffocates the root system. Platycerium are epiphyte plants.
Just switched them to moss! TYSM for the advice!!
I'm sorry, but i didn't understand how to identify the polarity of the plant. Someone can explain?
The frond “bud” which is green should face up. That’s the correct orientation.
He was referring to the rhizome being on top and that’s where the new growth will be so that’s top
Which wood did you use? I can't find any cedar wood
Hello, I use balao wood. It's abundant in where we live
How to mount if the shield is big. I'm not sure what type of staghorn fern I have. I will try to upload pic in morning.
You can make sure to create a huge moss ball that match the shield fond. Or you can cut them away, it's fine.
Please what could replace moss in such procedure?
Hello, Some people would just use Coco husks solely. But you will have to water the plant more frequently than usual.
@@aloneinoasis thanks!
A few questions;
1. Can I just use some sort of plastic board to mount the platycerium? Or is there a reason against that?
2. How young is too young in terms of mounting a Platycerium?
3. How big should a board be? Is there a general rule you follow?
1) Yes, it is up to you. Plastic is more robust too.
2) Too young means, the fertile frond and shiled frond is not more than the size of palm.
3) We always make sure the board is big enough to support the plant. Only make sure the moss size is compatible with the plant.
WAIT......GO BACK TO THE FROG, I LOVE HIM !!!!
LOL!!! They're adorable!
@@aloneinoasis :Yes, I am a Chameleon and Frog lover ♥️♥️
Hi! Great video! I was wondering what kind of fertilizer are you using? Thank you very much!
Hello!! I'm using the liquid seaweed fertilizer and the controlled-release ferilizer.
Hahaha is lemon the one escape from the box ?
Haha! That is Olive! It is a hybrid frog, this one is a Cranwelli.
How to mount on trees thanks
Hey! Good questions! I will definitely keep it in mind and post another episode for it! Stay tuned!
@@aloneinoasis thanks will be looking forward to that ☘️
Buddy.. where should I keep the frog😅
Haha, in a terrarium?
Fwoggy
Love the info, but hate the animal cruelty. That frog needs a proper terrarium. There's no need for it to be displayed like that even without a hiding spot etc :(
Thanks for your comment. The frogs are properly taken care of in a better enclosure. No worries. =) The glass is just temporary.
