I have a Staghorn fern for over two years it’s growing beautifully, tired to drift wood, I place the hole plant in a 32 garbage barrel that collects rainwater, I leave it in water for about 10 minutes. Then take out hang on side of my house to drip dry and for beautiful deck decoration. Never pest problems. In winter I fill bathtub. Never had to fertilize it’s growing beautiful
Ive only just discovered these plants and theyre amazing. They look like they come from space. Thank you for these videos as I plan to try my hand at growing one, or two, or three...
What a stunning collection you have! They are so beautiful and I wish I could have one, but I want to learn about their care as much as possible first. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Oh, yours are so beautiful. I have one that is forty five years old. It's hanging from a tree in my yard in Florida. I feed it ripe bananas. I had to move recently because too many hurricanes wiped out the surrounding trees that kept it in soft filtered light. Thank you for your site
thank you. It's the one plant I haul in and make room for to hang in my garage before a hurricane. The car gets moved out and over to a place on the mainland. I live on a barrier island in Florida.@@aloneinoasis
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your amazing collection. There is a shortage of quality information on good indoor care of platycerium on the web so your videos have been a refreshing source of good information. Keep it up!
Thanks a lot . Very absorbing and helpful to me for applying the fungicides . But staghorn is beautiful . More to your vlog. Thanks...viewing from Davao City ,Mindanao , Philippines .
Thank you for unlocking another mysteries of the world! fascinating how you get to work with those beautiful creatures hahah I personally think those platycerium looks more than just plants lols😂
Haha! Thank you!!! I think they're a piece of "growing" artwork that is mounted on board and awaiting us to "improve" them with every effort and time we put into them!
Hello from Kentucky!Love love the staghorns!!! Love the channel im a new subscriber. Im new to staghorns and ive recently mounted my 1st. I wish i had saw your channel first. 😅 Anyway i have a question how can you tell the top from the bottom. I think i have it right but now im now so sure.
Thank you so much for watching! Do you mean the top-from-bottom orientation of the plant? You can check out the other video of mine, mounting platycerium. I did show how we can identify the right orientation.
Thank you!! I'm not sure about aquariums since I'm not an expert in this subject matter. But what i know is that aquarium plant or fishes also need beneficial bacteria to thrive too .
Do you know any USA suppliers of these fertilizer and other products? Plant Doctor doesnt ship to USA...so wondering where else may supply the products mentioned?
Hi! I am also new to Staghorm ferns, and have a question bat watering. if you're watering from the top or dunking it in a tub, woudln't the water get inside the laters? Im just worry that it will rot the plant...
Hello! Yes, that’s the reason why we must ensure the environment has good airflow. Also, the core is chunky material and cover with moss as outer layer for water retention only.
@@aloneinoasis thank you! I got mine from someone else actually - the fern itself is quite big, so I can no longer see the core anymore. The person told me just water from the top between the fern and the board. How do I know if I am overwatering it? Thanks!
Hello! Yes, I will submerge the whole plant into the water sometimes together with the seaweed fertilizer and the bio-fungicide. Just make sure not to damage the fronds will do!. =)
I'm new to this hobby. So far I have 3 platyceriums: Foong Siqi, Superbum and Ridleyi. I am growing them in my bedroom. I havent tried Seaweed/organic fertilizer yet because I fear that the smell would be so strong. Is the smell really bad? I have a really small space. If the smell is that bad, I might consider using an inorganic fertilzer instead. Is it common for Ridleyi to develop brown spots on the shields as the new leaf emerges? I can't seem to keep the shields green. They all turn brown.
Hello, The seaweed fertilizer has no odor at all. You can use them indoors and you wouldn't smell the stink. Otherwise, you can try the slow-release fertilizer.
Have you ordered plants online (from shopee or fb)? If you have,do you have any recommendations of seller? If would also be great if you could make a video on where you buy your plants from? Nursery recommendations or even online stores. A video on how exactly you started your plant journey would be great!
Hello! Thanks for the feedback! It sounds fun! Also, the place where I get the plants are usually from my friends or collector. And of course, stay tuned for more plant tours and also plant nurseries!

Hey!! Thanks for telling me that!! Love to hear you are growing your platycerium indoor well!! Keep it up! Thanks for sharing!
Rain water carries nutrients from the failing thru the air (N4, O2 and other minerals) so rain = free fertilizer 😁

Done! Thanks for reminding me. =)
Thanks for the tips. Is it ok to use the beneficial bacteria for use in aquariums? What about phosphate solubilizing bacteria?
Thank you!! I'm not sure about aquariums since I'm not an expert in this subject matter. But what i know is that aquarium plant or fishes also need beneficial bacteria to thrive too .
hi lone, i have a question, how often to do change de water, you used and throw away or you keep for a few days?
I will change the water after all the watering routine has been done.
Do you know any USA suppliers of these fertilizer and other products? Plant Doctor doesnt ship to USA...so wondering where else may supply the products mentioned?
Hello, I dont think That plant doctor be able to export to USA tho. Maybe you can try to look for USA plant influencer and seek their advise.
I know this is the older video, what is ideal humidity(%) for keeping them indoors?
Hey! The Staghorn is not very particular about the humidity. As long as the level is not lower than 50%, they're doing fine.

I see that you didn't submerge the leaves into the tub or water them, should we or can we water the leaves with the seaweed or just plain water?
Hello! Yes, I will submerge the whole plant into the water sometimes together with the seaweed fertilizer and the bio-fungicide. Just make sure not to damage the fronds will do!. =)

Have you dealt with spider mites on your stags? If so, how do you treat for them?
hey! I don't have any spider mites problem but scales. I only treat them in neem oil so far. If it is heavily infested, I will just scrap them off.
The way you prepare water in the tub reminds me of bathing my human baby in the tub 😆 🤣
Haha! That's exactly my thought!
but do you add the right amount of fertilizer? haha
Sorry,is it neem oil that you using
Hello, yes! It is Neem oil from thatplantdoctor.com
