    I have a Staghorn fern for over two years it’s growing beautifully, tired to drift wood, I place the hole plant in a 32 garbage barrel that collects rainwater, I leave it in water for about 10 minutes. Then take out hang on side of my house to drip dry and for beautiful deck decoration. Never pest problems. In winter I fill bathtub. Never had to fertilize it’s growing beautiful

      Rain water carries nutrients from the failing thru the air (N4, O2 and other minerals) so rain = free fertilizer 😁

    Oh, yours are so beautiful. I have one that is forty five years old. It's hanging from a tree in my yard in Florida. I feed it ripe bananas. I had to move recently because too many hurricanes wiped out the surrounding trees that kept it in soft filtered light. Thank you for your site

      thank you. It's the one plant I haul in and make room for to hang in my garage before a hurricane. The car gets moved out and over to a place on the mainland. I live on a barrier island in Florida.@@aloneinoasis

    • @aloneinoasis

      Thank you so much for watching! Do you mean the top-from-bottom orientation of the plant? You can check out the other video of mine, mounting platycerium. I did show how we can identify the right orientation.

    Thanks for the tips. Is it ok to use the beneficial bacteria for use in aquariums? What about phosphate solubilizing bacteria?

    • @aloneinoasis
      @aloneinoasis  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you!! I'm not sure about aquariums since I'm not an expert in this subject matter. But what i know is that aquarium plant or fishes also need beneficial bacteria to thrive too .

    I know this is the older video, what is ideal humidity(%) for keeping them indoors?

    • @aloneinoasis
      @aloneinoasis  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hey! The Staghorn is not very particular about the humidity. As long as the level is not lower than 50%, they're doing fine.

  • @MrEmilybabi
    @MrEmilybabi ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi! I am also new to Staghorm ferns, and have a question bat watering. if you're watering from the top or dunking it in a tub, woudln't the water get inside the laters? Im just worry that it will rot the plant...

    • @aloneinoasis
      @aloneinoasis  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! Yes, that’s the reason why we must ensure the environment has good airflow. Also, the core is chunky material and cover with moss as outer layer for water retention only.

    • @MrEmilybabi
      @MrEmilybabi ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@aloneinoasis thank you! I got mine from someone else actually - the fern itself is quite big, so I can no longer see the core anymore. The person told me just water from the top between the fern and the board. How do I know if I am overwatering it? Thanks!

    I see that you didn't submerge the leaves into the tub or water them, should we or can we water the leaves with the seaweed or just plain water?

    • @aloneinoasis
      @aloneinoasis  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! Yes, I will submerge the whole plant into the water sometimes together with the seaweed fertilizer and the bio-fungicide. Just make sure not to damage the fronds will do!. =)

    I'm new to this hobby. So far I have 3 platyceriums: Foong Siqi, Superbum and Ridleyi. I am growing them in my bedroom. I havent tried Seaweed/organic fertilizer yet because I fear that the smell would be so strong. Is the smell really bad? I have a really small space. If the smell is that bad, I might consider using an inorganic fertilzer instead. Is it common for Ridleyi to develop brown spots on the shields as the new leaf emerges? I can't seem to keep the shields green. They all turn brown.

    • @aloneinoasis
      @aloneinoasis  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, The seaweed fertilizer has no odor at all. You can use them indoors and you wouldn't smell the stink. Otherwise, you can try the slow-release fertilizer.

    • @aloneinoasis

      hey! I don't have any spider mites problem but scales. I only treat them in neem oil so far. If it is heavily infested, I will just scrap them off.

    Have you ordered plants online (from shopee or fb)? If you have,do you have any recommendations of seller?
    If would also be great if you could make a video on where you buy your plants from? Nursery recommendations or even online stores. A video on how exactly you started your plant journey would be great!
